The festival was cute. Nice little distraction for all of us who got dropped here out of nowhere.

We’re stuck here and have to get used to it. Sure. But who knows the best place to check out fresh foods and spices? I need samples. May as well be eating whatever they give me blindfolded until I know what’s in it. They could be feeding us alien donkey balls for all we know.

Just because we’re stuck in another world doesn’t mean we have to eat like heathens.

You sound rather unpleasant. I'm just trying to have a conversation and you keep bringing it back to insults because I was evidently not taught the same things as you, growing up.

You're right. Some rich kid with servants doing everything for him wouldn't have been taught how to manage his own life. Rude of me to set those kind of expectations.

I'm sorry that apparently I do not live up to your lofty standards, but I was busy being taught to rule and to lead. To better the lives of my people and ensure peace and prosperity for them.

Cooking lessons sort of fell by the wayside.

Isn't that just what I said? You know how to lead a country and don't know shit about things any average person can do with some common sense and access to a fridge full of food.

I would argue that all lessons are important where I come from. Without a strong leader, other countries invade, ravage the countryside to take of our resources or to simply destroy farmland and homes. Then people starve, and without access to food, you would be quite useless.

It is true this place and my role here are quite different, I have never disputed that. But I have attempted to adapt, and I have attempted to learn from other people's perspectives. You could stand to do the same, instead of lobbing insults because you cling tight to your prejudices.

I will not hold that against you, because I imagine you have not been taught how to speak to people.

[It's a good thing this is through text because there are so many knee-jerk reactions Tolemi has to reading this. An anger, bitter defensiveness because how dare this rich kid who probably had everything handed to him--who didn't have to survive moving from bus to bus and town to town to stay ahead of hunters and not even know if the money would last through the month if he didn't find a job--tell him about perspective. This guy doesn't know shit about him.

He steps back, logs off, goes for a long run to work off that aggression before he ends up breaking the phone barely a week into owning it. And after all of that he's calmed down enough to actually think instead of letting that need to start a fight over perceived insults getting the best of him.

He still doesn't respond until the next day.]

Maybe we both need some lessons on talking to people, if you think that was an insult. I don't care about faking niceties for the sake of other people's soft sensibilities, but I wasn't trying to shit on you there either, rich boy.

[Damen ends the conversation with a sort of disappointed anger. It isn't like this man knows anything about him either, so how dare he disparage his character like that? Then a response comes the next day, while he's at work, and he scuttles off during his break, unable to let it go.]

That is all you have done since the moment you decided I am a "rich, lazy shit". Even now, you call me "rich boy" like an insult, instead of using my name. Either own your words, or hide like a coward behind 'I did not mean', that is up to you, but I find your basic lack of respect for other human beings distasteful.
