001 Video - un - Recording

[Shuri is sitting on her assigned bed when she flicks on the device she'd been given. She doesn't mind sharing a room with other people but it's a first for her and she's adjusting to the change. It's a lot louder here than the palace of Wakanda and she currently has no lab to retreat to.]

This looks like it'll be my home for awhile so I thought it best to give a general hello. My name is Shuri.

[She really isn't interested in the festival that's going on but she has a few questions that can only be answered by those who have been here for awhile.] I have a few questions.

First I'd like to talk to those who work in technical fields. I'm the head of the R&D division in Wakanda and I'd like to do something similar here. [It's the best way for her to help out and no matter where Shuri is, she wants to help those around her.] I was told when I arrived that there are many labs here but I'd like to hear from you, which is the best.

I'm also looking for the Avengers. If any are listening, I believe you know my brother T'Challa, King of Wakanda. [She hasn't met many of the Avengers but she assumes that some of them are here since people are being swept away to a moon via a portal.]

Hello Shuri. I'm Steve Rogers. Assuming we're from the same universe, if your brother mentioned the Avengers to you, he might have mentioned me as well. Speaking of the Avengers, there's a number of us here and, as I'm sure you've heard, we're scattered across universes. There's also more then one of a few of us. Do you need our assistance with something?

[He owes T'Challa and the Wakandans a lot. Even if this Shuri is from another universe entirely, he still owes it to them to offer his help however he can.]

I know you Captain Rogers.

You fought my brother once and I've spent some time with a friend of yours. [Shuri remembers hearing about it as well as taking the information that T'Challa's suit had collected to make some improvements on the Black Panther. She really should be thanking Steve for beating up her brother back then...]

I don't need anything right now.

[She wants to know who her friends are.]

[And that friend of his being Bucky. He really should give her a heads up.]

Bucky is here, but he won't know who you are. He was taken from a point in time before the rest of us. He didn't know your brother when he was here either.

[Shuri's lips press into a thin line.]

Can you pass a message to him? [She pauses a moment and then continues.] If you could let him know who I am and tell him that if he needs help to come find me.

I can help him.

[She won't make him. Shuri knows enough about Sargent Barnes to know that he seldom trusts people.] He was nearly rehabilitated when I left but I won't explain the details here. [This isn't exactly a closed or safe line of communication.]

I'll tell him.

[And he will as soon as he can. It had been a spark of hope seeing Shuri's post on the network. If she can help him here the same way she'd been able to back home...

It's exactly what they need.]

No. Maybe we can meet in person to discuss that?

Good.

[Above everything else, Barnes is a good guy. She doesn't want to see him hurt when she has a way to help him.]

Yes. I haven't made any plans yet. Let me know when you're free to talk Captain.

I have some time today after my patrol. Would this afternoon work?

Yes.

I'll be visiting a lab near the wall of the city. I'll have time after, let me know where you want to meet.

I know a good cafe. [He sends her the address.]

I'll meet you there. Try not to be late.

[She flashes him a smile before turning off the device. She'll get at the cafe early and get them a table. Shuri is curious about Bucky more than most of the others here. If he still has that programming... she can't imagine how he must be feeling.]

[He does not show up late. In fact, he arrives right on time and spots her at the table she's claimed. Taking a seat, he flashes her a brief smile.]

Would you like to order first or jump straight into business?

[She's not the only one eager to discuss Bucky.]

[Shuri watches Steve with an easy smile spread across her lips. She doesn't know him very well but they've spoken a few times before now, back when he'd been in Wakanda with her brother.]

Business first.

[Food can wait until they have the important things out of the way.]

[He smiles again, his relief clear.]

You mentioned that you nearly had Bucky rehabilitation before you came here?

Well, you're likely going to have to start from the beginning with the Bucky here. He's not as far along as the timeline as we are. He remembers up to about six months after we had our fight in D.C. Way before the Accords.

Do you think you can replicate what you did for him back home here?

Okay.

[She quickly puts the timeline in order as she knows it. Luckily, her brother has recounted most of the events that happened in America to her. It had taken some time to get all of the details out of him but after showing up in Wakanda with a small section of the Avengers, Shuri hadn't rested until she learned everything. She was persistent like that.]

Yeah. I need the right gear though. I don't have my lab here and I doubt Tony or anyone else here has made an equal.

[It isn't ego that has Shuri down playing others inventions but fact. She'd had the benefit of learning with better materials and technology advancements that put her a little bit ahead of the curve.

Her finger moves to her bracelet and she pulls one of the beads free. She lets it roll on the table as she turns it on. The metal sphere settles into place, displaying a small holographic above it.] I don't have access to my databases either but I have most of what he need memorized. [It's what happens when you spend months focused on a single project.] I have some bits of material but I don't know what's here.

There is the way that I had helped Bucky before but with limited resources I might have an alternative. [She looks up at Steve while flicking through a few of the holographic images.] Bucky's programming is located in this section of the brain here. I was able to isolate it before and erase it. Without that precision it might be saver to isolate the pathways and disrupt those instead. It'll still be in there be he'll have no access to it. It'll give me time to find a way to safely erase the full extent of the programming without endangering him.

[She looks up at Steve to gauge his reaction.]

[He listens closely to her every word, understanding the basics of what she says even if he's not completely clear on the in-depth hows and whys. He's far more concerned with what she believes can be done and how they can put it into practice.]

Even if he doesn't have all that you need, Tony would still be a better source for materials and knowledge on what you can get your hands and where. He might even be able to assist you. I know that he and Bucky have...worked together before. [He doesn't know details but he does know that the two have spent time together. Time in Tony's lab even.]

And you think cutting off access would be enough to keep anyone else from tampering with the programming? Someone from the outside, in particular.

[She's trying to make it a little less complicated than what she's actually doing. Steve doesn't strike her as the type to be interested in all of the gritty details of her work.]

I'll ask him. [She has somethings she wants to ask Tony anyway.]

[Shuri pauses for a second and then nods her head.] Yes but it means that someone can also build new access points to that programming. If they know how. It'd take them a long time but I don't know how often you see Bucky or how to ensure that he's himself.

It'll be more of a start than anything. He'll need to learn some things away from the city and people. I can help but other mental marks can only be healed in time.

I see him enough. But our biggest issue is that a member of HYDRA is here in the city. Someone who worked closely with the Winter Solider. I don't know how much he knows about the programming himself, but he knows the words. He might even have resources to build a new access point in the future. But I'm not a one hundred percent sure about that. He would have to know that the program has been tampered with first.

[His expression hardens just slightly when she mentions they having to go outside the city.]

Is that really necessary? Bucky has spent some time out beyond the perimeter, but it's dangerous out there. There are wild animals and creatures everywhere.

[Shuri's brows knit curiously together. There are several meanings that can be ascribed to 'worked with the winter solider. ' There are those who held his leash and then those who made sure that he had been programed correctly. What they had done to Bucky isn't an easy thing. It takes years and pain. If Bucky is visible, they'd notice he's gone before damage can be done but that has its own dangers.

She silently mulls Steve's words over, looking thoughtfully down at the table.] Who is it? [She finally asks, her voice curious and thoughtful.] If it's someone who gave Bucky orders, I'm not as worried about it but that'd still be dangerous.

[Bucky is her friend. She doesn't want to put him in danger.]

I don't mean outside the wall but away from as much of the noise of the city as he can get. Quiet to help his head. A simple job to keep him moving. It might sound silly but being exposed to a healthy environment, away from those stresses, where he feels safe. [She holds up a finger.] That's important.

Alexander Pierce. [His words come out hard as if he has to force them through his teeth.] I'm pretty sure he only gave the commands and had nothing to do with the programming itself. But for more specifics you should probably ask Bucky himself.

[He doesn't want to put Bucky in any further risk either.]

Alright. That sounds good actually. I can help you scout out a place if you want. There are a few outskirts beyond the city that are still within the walls.
