{ It's late and he should be sleeping, but rest evades him more often than he likes. Thus why he sticks to text. The other residents of the house needn't be woken. }

Do you believe in curses or fairytales? Can malicious magic be undone?

I have nothing to lose. Spare me no details.

{ Part of him wants to be disgusted. If someone can manage that then he will be suitably distracted from his own circling thoughts. }

Or we can share embarrassing stories.

The immediate effects of malicious magic can be undone, but there are side effects that will NEVER go away.

[Oh, for the love of... The text fad has caught the elder Phantomhive, has it? He’ll not return the courtesy.]

Spending the evening in the archives, are we?

Sometimes it's both, but the mental scars are harder on the victims than the physical ones.

[That’s better. He doesn’t like having to give up his fingernails.]

It is. Anything I can help you with at this time of night? [He knows. And he does feel a little bad about not being there right now to go over the writings.]

I've yet to meet anyone that doesn't have at least one or two. Except for very sheltered children.

[Thedosians tend to have more than just a few, of both kinds. It's a great world.]

[Indeed. More importantly, there’s a definite air of “not fine” in all of that and he wonders why Vincent even tries anymore with him.]

I’ve a few thoughts on it, none I’d like to express in my present company. [Asleep though Ciel is.] Might I trouble you for a moment of privacy?

Maker knows I never said it lasted forever. Keeping them from facing reality tends to lead to more trouble in the long run.

However, why in the world would you begin asking about such a topic this late at night?

[Of course Cullen's awake. What the hell is a normal sleep schedule?]

[As expected.] Like a rock, as he will. [He would say like the dead, but it’s not the time or place. And he’s already carefully worming away from the boy to get out of bed rather than wait for Vincent’s response.] A moment, milord.
somakemelaugh: (watching over)

[personal profile] somakemelaugh 2018-04-26 06:18 am (UTC)(link)
[He’ll do the man one better and as soon as he’s out of bed, he steps directly into the center of Vincent’s room. From the phone’s screen, he’d been able to see enough to know where Vincent was, so no collisions necessary. When there, he looks around, not that he can see much now.]

Now then. Where were we?
somakemelaugh: (leaning)

[personal profile] somakemelaugh 2018-04-26 06:30 am (UTC)(link)
[He'll grant the man that much, but he won't rely on it. He knows better. Still, he'll trust Vincent to get him to that other chair without incident.]

Ah, yes. That. So what shall we do about that?

Interesting choice of topic.

It's a little hard to think of them as fairy tales when I know them personally, though.

And to answer your other question, yes. Malicious magic can be undone. I've seen it done before.

[What's one more scar among dozens on this body? He might protest the boy, but not his own.]

It's torture, you know. Keeping yourself awake to exhaustion. [Not that he used to do that or anything.] Makes a mess of everything eventually. Are the dreams that bad, milord?

The world has a way of showing that it won't be ignored, no matter our intentions. It sounds as if you did more harm than good, despite having good intentions.

Haunted? By nightmares or by your mistakes?

I'm a religious person, so I suppose that could be considered fairy tales to some.

Many cultures have beliefs surrounding curses or malicious magic. Whether or not they can be removed and how they are depends entirely on the culture itself. Some only end because of the death of the targets. Of course, this is mostly just stories.

do I ever

life would be too boring if I didn't believe in fairytales

Most of them. I've known a few for years, though once King Arthur and his court showed up, it was a little harder keeping track.

Bear with me on this, because I know it sounds strange. But True Love's Kiss. It's the most powerful magic known to the realms. Able to break any curse and reverse any spell.

[He sighs and shakes his head.] If you want to end yourself, there are easier ways to do it. I won't help you with that, but you're more fun when you're alive. So then, we have a problem, it seems. [He lifts a hand to rest his cheek against, watching Vincent.] What to do about it?

You must learn to make as much peace with what's happened as you can. That's the only way to get a night's sleep that won't leave you more tired in the morning than when you laid down.

As for the rest, that's for you to decide.

It's not belittling it. Religion is filled with lessons and stories. It's the core of it, the faith, that matters.

[ Though his could hardly be called faith. More - personal experience. ]

I said it's a possibility that Death is the only thing that ends it. It depends on the curse. What do you know about where it came from?

Neither. I just happen to live in a town along with people who are known in fairy tales and popular legends and so on.

I'm sure there are other ways. I just know about True Love's Kiss because I've seen it work.

Curses are real, fairytales are not.

Malicious magic can be done if you become more powerful than the malice contained within.

Your best is the only thing that you can give in that situation and the most that anyone can ask of you. Anything more is unreasonable.

But are you giving it?
