In my world, over 80% of the population have some sort of power. In order to keep vigilantes in lower numbers and to make sure heroes are properly trained, they go through hero-specific schooling! And once they graduate, they're certified as heroes.

[supersweet]

Really?

So there's like a hero school?

[almightiness]

Precisely! A school devoted to the cultivation of fine young heroes-in-the-making! Much like someone who strives to be a police officer or doctor, schooling is important in preparing them for helping and handling the public. I've met quite a number of truly talented kids there...!

[supersweet]

[ That's neat. Though it makes Jon wonder how many heroes are there. He doesn't know enough to fill a classroom, let alone an entire school. ]

How come you have so many? Heroes, I mean.

[almightiness]

The population is so saturated with powers, you can imagine how many may use those powers for less heroic reasons. Because of that, in order to keep a balance, we need heroes to help defend the public from those stronger villains whose powers are dangerous and used for ill!

[supersweet]

Wait, really?

Everyone has powers?

[almightiness]

Nearly all, indeed. Only two out of every ten people are quirkless.

A normal thing to me, but I suppose to most it's hard to picture...!

Yeah, that's kind of hard to picture.

[ That's not entirely true. Jor-El had shown Jon briefly what kind of world that would look like. ]

Sooo. What if you have powers and do nothing? Is that normal too?

[almightiness]

Oh, yes! There are plenty of people with powers who are just everyday individuals! Using one's powers is prohibited in general public for safety concerns, though as long as you're not causing trouble, it's not usually so intensely enforced. After all, one's powers is an important part of their identity!

It's merely important to make sure there's a balance, to avoid the chaos of the past.

So something happened before?

[almightiness]

Certainly, something did, dear boy. With that many powers happening all at once... well, it wasn't always a pretty place to live. Villains were cropping up more and more without enough resistance from our end; once a balance was set, crime dipped, and society became more stable.

[supersweet]

[ Jon nods. This makes perfect sense. ]

I wish I could go to a school like that though.

[almightiness]

Ah, I'm sure there's something that could be done here...

At the very least, I wouldn't mind helping you hone your skills, if you need it! Or perhaps a group can be formed for the youth like yourself with extraordinary superhuman abilities.

I don't think we have enough kids to form a mini Justice League.

Ah — a mini 'Justice League'?

[Sounds unfamiliar...! And yet, the kid seems to be talking about something hero-specific!]

Yeah. It's a league of superpowered people who help defend the Earth, etc.

[almightiness]

Oh, wonderful!!

It sounds like exactly what a world needs, even. I must know more about this league — how does joining it work? Is there some sort of test, or is it simply word of mouth and experience?

Uhh. Batman probably does a bunch of tests to see if you're okay.

[ And then you probably have to do more tests. It's Batman, good luck. ]
