Why Should the Devil have all the Good Music?
(Joint post from Jace Wayland Herondale, Lightwood, Whatever and Alec Lightwood-Bane.)
[When the broadcast begins, the video pans across the interior of the LUX nightclub. The space is lit enough to show the details of the speakeasy inspired decor but dim enough to give the impression of what the club will be like when it's open.
Eventually the feed stops on a blond playing Fur Elise at a grand piano. Alec sets his phone down, bracing it so that it has a clear view and won't move. He sits down beside Jace. He waits a few beats before accompanying his parabatai. The two of them begin playing a ragtime version of the song, each player pausing at certain points and the other easily picking up the melody. When they're finished, Alec turns toward the camera.]
A few months ago, Magnus and I opened up the LUX building for renters. We've been working on opening the nightclub on the main and basement floors, and we almost have everything ready. We're planning to make the club like the apartments, welcoming to those who have felt that they're different. This will be a safe place to enjoy themselves. Mostly I was thinking that this would be a place for beings who are supernatural but it'll be open to anyone who is willing to follow the rules and not cause trouble.
LUX is going to be a music club, but right now, I have only two performers. If you're interested in playing at the club, please contact either Jace or me and we can discuss setting up an audition.
[As Alec mentions the Lux being a safe place, Jace begins playing C Jam Blues. He’s definitely showing off and enjoying the jazz piece immensely. Right up until he hears his name and then he stops and leans in closer to Alec, eyes on the phone.]
Bring your own sheet music. Diversity is important. If you don’t have any musical talent don’t call me. Unless you’re hot and looking for date. Or you have some other talent. Like bartending or waiting tables.
[Scowling at Jace, Alec elbows his parabatai in the ribs.] You’re not the only one who’ll be holding auditions. I’m the owner, remember?
[Jace smiled and rubbed at his ribs for a moment before beginning a new piece. Moonlight Sonata.] You’re the boss. I just toss drinks and rule breakers.
And play the piano. [Shaking his head, he looks more amused than annoyed by Jace’s comments.] If anyone wants to audition or interview, let us know.
(ooc: If you prefer either Jace or Alec to answer, note which one you want to answer in the subject line or in the tag.)

I didn't hire him. We're a package deal. Where I goest, he goes.

In slight seriousness, if you need help with anything, let me know?
no subject
I may need more help before we open to get everything ready. I know Magnus can cast a spell and have everything set up, but that seems like cheating.

If it doesn't harm anyone...maybe have Magnus use magic? It'll give you something else to work out and you won't be as stressed out.
no subject
It wouldn't harm anyone, but I want this to be something I did with minimal magic. That way I'm more committed to it.
And it wouldn't be fair to rely on Magnus' magic when I used to get angry over people using him for his spells back in New York.

Well, you do seem like you're committed to a lot of things. I mean, I kind of get where you're coming from. You want this to be done on you terms, but...if it's a way for Magnus to help...maybe just have him do something small, so you can take care of the bigger things?
You wouldn't be using him. If you're asking for help, then you're not using him. It's his bar too, right?

[Which might cause an interesting reaction along with the text that Alec sends a beat later.]
So is Magnus.
That's a good idea. I know that he wants to help. He's offered to go over the management details with me since I've never had to do paperwork like that before. I know he wants to do more to get LUX ready than teach me about invoices.
Technically it's ours but he wants me to make most of decisions for it. People used to assume Magnus would help them for free because they were connected to me. I don't want to be selfish like that.

And Magnus?!]
So....regardless of what world or version of it you're from, you'll find your way to Jace and Magnus--eventually.
[His destiny was tied to those two people, and whatever realm he was in, he'd find them. Rey briefly wondered if that would be the case with her and Finn, Poe, and maybe Ren...but her mind goes back to Alec.]
If he's offered to help go over things with you then you're not taking advantage of him. Have him go over with you--take notes and then move onto other things. You can make the decisions, but get his opinion on things.
It's not selfish Alec, it's a partnership.
Now, if you ask Magnus to do something for me without me offering anything in return--then that's selfish.

When I met the Magnus that's here, we had only a few memories but we knew each other as soon as we saw each other.
My bond with Jace felt different but I thought that was because of trauma. Now I know that it's because he's not the same Jace I grew up with. But there's still a connection there.
You're right. I should let him help. As long as he doesn't' try to do too much.
My friends back home always had me ask Magnus to do things for him. He always did because of his feelings for me. It was selfish but it seemed like we didn't have any choice.
We didn't but it still wasn't right. I don't want to do that to him again.
You know he'd be happy to do something for you just to show off.

Sounds like you're meant to be with the two of them, no matter what. That's..nice to think about.
Exactly. Let him help you a little, there's nothing wrong with that.
Your friends should've asked him themselves, rather than through you. It's not fair to put you in that situation.
But that doesn't sound like a fair trade to me. Though....I should get him something, since the two of you have invited me over for parties.
