I'm not sure how many people she was able to tell about this, but it looks like D.Va is gone now. She got a chance to go back home and finish fighting the war in her own world.

I guess its a chance any one of us would have taken if they had been given it, but... she will be missed.

[He's really trying not to look sad about this, but it is rather hard. He had been close to her and now... she wasn't there]

I just though everyone should know.

[He's at least learned sitting there feeling sorry for himself does nothing. Besides, there is a robot lion rather determined to have him get up off the couch and be a social person even if he wasn't coming with]

[Alex is good at being the robot lion for other people, so she doesn't mind doing it for him too. So, she just gives him a smile.]

They let us have our dogs if we sit outside, if you want to do that.

[She's definitely doing a good job at getting him to be social and Black appreciates that]

Yeah, let's do that. I'll bring Youta with me. He'd like to get out.

Cool. Apo will be glad to meet him then! Will you be okay until then?

[Poor Youta must be on as much an emotional roller coaster as Shiro. First Shiro gets sick and now his master is sad for some reason so getting out will be good for him. More normal]

Yeah. I’ll be fine until then. See you soon?

[At the designated time, Shiro arrived at the café in question with Youta in tow. The dog was definitely happy to be outside again, tail wagging as they sat down at one of the tables to wait for the other party]

[Alex shows up at the cafe with a large gray dog at her heels, happy and sniffing everything as she moved along the line of chairs until they joined Shiro and Youta. Alex has a grin and Apo quickly moves to do the whole new dogs meeting sniffing thing while Alex sits across from Shiro, but keeping an eye on the dogs.]

Sorry I'm a few minutes late, I had to run home and get Apo.

[Youta had flopped down beside Shiro when Alex came walking up with Apo. He was immediately up and moved quickly over to him to sniff him as well. Look! New friend!

Shiro smiled glancing at the dogs to make sure they were getting along before he turned back to her]

No, that's fine. I understand. Thanks for coming to meet me. Thanks for bringing him.

[Like a good dog mom, Alex watched the introduction for a long moment, before she focused her attention back to Shiro, content that the two dogs were going to get along fine and become the best of friends. Despite their rough beginning, Alex knew that her and Apo were meant to be forever people, and she was definitely going to be bringing the dog home when the portal got things figured out, even if she needed to stow him with her parents while they dealt with that whole end of the world business.

With an easy wave, Alex just smiled.]

Don't worry about it. I get how tough it can be to have someone just suddenly disappear on you. It sucks. A lot. And sometimes the best thing for a situation like this is something sweet and all the ranting you need to do. [A beat.] Not that I know from personal experience or anything.

[Shiro definitely had the thought that he'd want to bring Youta with him back home. He wasn't sure how that would work at the moment, but he could dream. Youta was definitely happy to see the other dog, quickly getting used to Apo being there with him]

Yeah, sometimes having someone to vent to does help. [He gave her a faint smile] No of course not. It's not even like I can blame her for leaving. It's a chance I would have taken, but its still hard.

[. Honestly Alex couldn't blame someone who took the chance of going home when offered, even if she didn't think she would take it for herself. At least not now anyway. But what she could do was be an ear and she nodded about not blaming her that she went home.]

It still stinks that she had to leave, even though it's awesome that she got to go home.

[He really did appreciate that she was offering to be someone he could talk to about this. It was hard, knowing that she was gone and having a friendly ear was great. As much as he appreciated Keith's offers to help, talking with someone else was good too]

Yeah, it is. Part of me wishes she hadn't taken that chance, but the other part is proud that she did. She's trying to help her world.

[Alex just nodded when he said that she wished she would have stayed. She understood that, and she understood how the place could sometimes have more than a little bit of a temporary feel to it, especially when people came and went so often. But losing a friend, or someone you cared about was a different thing entirely. Her voice was soft when she responded:]

She sounds wonderful, like someone who I would have liked to have met. But I can't blame her for wanting to go back if she's got stuff to do.

Maybe you'll get the chance to meet her some day. I mean there's still the chance she could come back. Maybe...

[He's starts out sounding hopeful at that before the tone shifts. He realizes how odd that sounds, still clinging to the hope she'd come back so quickly and easily]

It must sound strange, right.

{Alex shook her head quickly with a small frown.]

I don't think it's crazy at all actually. You care about her, and there's nothing wrong with hoping that someone you love will come back even if they had to go for some reason. I mean, I'd be doing the same thing probably if someone I cared for left. And maybe she will come back. I've definitely heard stories of people who come and go sometimes. Maybe she'll be one of them. Who knows what the Portal will decide to do, right?

I guess that's true. It's hard to tell what the portal here will do. Not like any of us expected to be here and if it brought her once... There might be the chance that it will again.

[He's silent for a moment] Thanks. I still hope you get the chance to meet her.

Maybe. And maybe they'll come a time when she's done doing what she needs to do, and she'll actually chose to leave her life and come back. That way she gets the best of both worlds. And I really do hope I get the chance to meet her. She sounds like an amazing woman.

Were you friends long?

Maybe. She is amazing. Of course I am a little biased about that.

It had only been about a year. We arrived here at the same time, but there were things that happened that allowed us to get closer to each other pretty quickly. We saw moments that were each other's nightmares and were there to help the other.

[And she hadn't left him after she had seen what he had been through, which had been his fear pretty much since his year with the Galra. What would others do if they saw that?]

Hey! [The word comes with a quick grin in order to emphasize her words.] There's definitely nothing wrong with being biased. Especially when it's someone that you care about a lot. And especially someone who you've been through so much with.

[The idea of sharing nightmares did alarm her suddenly, even if Alex didn't bring it up. that certainly anything that she would want to share with anyone, especially with as specific some of her dreams had gone with demons that were involved with her life.]

Were you guys romantically involved?

[From the way he was talking, Alex almost assumed so, but she'd been on the other side of that equation, and she knew how annoying it could be when someone made the assumption without evidence of what her relationship with someone was. So, it was far easier for the reporter to just ask about it.]

I guess there isn't. It's normal that it happens. [Shiro could agree. He would never choose to do that. Even after seeing how it had helped him get closer to Hana, he still wouldn't recommend it. It was a painful way to do it. It had made him worried about how Hana saw him for a while]

Yeah, we were. We had started spending more time at each other's places.

[Alex just frowned even harder, because she can't imagine how bad it would be to lose someone when they were still in the honeymoon state of dating, especially when there was the complete possibility that they were never going to see one another again. No wonder he needed someone to drag him out of the house. He needed more than that, in Alex's opinion. No, in her mind he needed all of the ice cream and hugs. Perhaps Apo was picking up on his owner's thoughts, because he moved over and gave Shiro's hand a quick lap to comfort him.]

I'm so sorry. That sounds horrible to lose her like this.

[Shiro was kind of lost in thought for the moment after saying that then all of the sudden, there was a dog kiss from Apo, Youta also coming over to look at him as well, like wanting to check on his owner. Shiro couldn't help the faint smile as he reached over to pet Apo and then Youta, getting a big wagging tail from his dog]

Yeah. It wasn't the exactly something I was expecting to hear... and not something I wanted, but I can't stand in her way.

[Alex just watched as the dogs comforted him, and she gave him a soft smile when she raised her eyes to his once more. Without thinking about it, Alex reached over and placed a gentle hand on his own.]

You're a good man for knowing that you know. I don't know if I could be that selfless about the whole thing.

[Shiro's smile grew a little bit more when Alex's hand covered his other. It was very much appreciated during a time that was hard for him, both because he knew this was right answer, but also not what he wanted]

Thanks. I want to be selfish about it, but in the end, I would have done the same thing if given the chance before her.

That's because you're definitely both good people who have things that need doing back home before you can rest and take time out for you, right? I mean, it's hard, but it's also just doing what you two need to do. Who knows, maybe you'll go home and do what you have to do, and then you'll both get pulled back here.

After all, love is love right? And it always wins.

Yeah... that's pretty much it. I'm fighting a war; she's fighting a war. Well, I do hope I get the chance to go back home and finish what's been started, but I do hope I can come back. I've gotten to appreciate this place. It's been a break from home. And I might be able to see Hana again.

[Because he'd never see her back home]

Yeah, we can hope it does.
