[ The recent events have prompted Stan to be rather more quiet and reclusive than he is normally and he's even been mostly ignoring those he knows well. Too many things were reminding him negatively of Derry and he didn't particularly like facing that fear.

But it's about time to talk about something, anything. ]

If you had to guess, what do you think would be the most likely way you’ll die?

[ His thoughts aren't morbid lately or anything. ]

Really?

Well, in that case, I can sort of understand where you're coming from. I was separated from my parents when I was a boy. I might have been a little younger than you, actually.

[He can't remember his exact age from that time. Somewhere around ten to twelve.]

Yes.

I guess it probably wasn't because of a place like this, though.

[billyrocks]

You guessed right. I’m originally from Korea, but my parents sent me overseas to America in hopes I would have a better chance at survival since our life in Korea was gradually going downhill. So, this isn’t my first time being thrown into an unfamiliar place all by myself.

[stantheman]

Korea...

[ Stan sorta knows where that is but Asia is a continent he doesn't really know very much about. ]

That must have been hard... Did you know English?

[billyrocks]

Nope, none, so that just made America a whole lot scarier to a kid like me. But I learned over time, and I can speak it pretty fluently now.

I hope you didn’t have as hard a time adjusting to this place.

Where are you from anyway?

That sounds really lonely but I'm glad
you were able to learn.

[ It definitely gives him a bit of perspective that there's a lot of things he shouldn't complain about. ]

Not hard like that, really.

I'm from Maine... the 1980s.

What’s it like? Maine during your time, I mean.

[stantheman]

It's different from here. We don't have phones the way they do here. There's cars but they're not as fancy or fast. There's electricity and all that but there was less technology than there is now, especially where I lived.

[billyrocks]

I've been to Maine a few times. Definitely didn't have all that stuff in my time, though. It was 1879 for me.

What's your name, son? What does the 'S' stand for? The 'B' in mine stands for Billy, and you can just call me by that name. You're a young man, so no need to use formalities with me. Those tend to make me uncomfortable anyway.

Oh. That's about a 100 years before me.

Stan. It's nice to meet you, Billy.

[billyrocks]

So in just a hundred years we start seeing the beginning of technology like this. That’s really something.

[Billy’s death had come just before the years when electricity slowly became available to the public.]

I hate to come back to this, but why were you asking such a morbid question before?

[stantheman]

It seems like the more technology there is the faster it keeps growing or something like that, I guess.

[ there’s a pause before a second message ends up following. ]

I guess it’s just on my mind. Everybody dies, right? I guess i think about dying a lot.

[ it’s hard to be honest directly. ]

[Billy notes the pause and the vague answer, but he won't press further. When the boy is ready to talk about it, then he will talk about it.]

I'll take your word for it. But I suggest trying to not to worry about it too much, or else you'll miss out on life. Better to enjoy what you have now before it's gone.
