[Laura has not really been on the network much, since the kidnappings had happened. She had been scarce in general; just because she was held captive all her life, after all, did not make it any easier to be thrust back into that terrible sort of world. But now she's back and has at least had some time to try and heal from those nasty little metaphoricalwounds, chewing on her pencil thoughtfully before lowering it and smiling a little from where she sits at a table in the community housing..]

I am twelve now... I have never had a birthday before, so I am not sure what to do other than to say so; since I have been here for a year now, I have decided that August is my birth month.

[She grins a bit, rather impish.]

And since I do not have the exact day, I guess every day in August will have to be my birthday. Gracias.

Amusement parks in general can be pretty cool. I'd like to give it a try.

[Keith wasn't a very strong swimmer... not beyond whatever survival techniques he'd been taught at the Garrison to be prepared for a water landing. But it was enough to get by at a water park.]

It'll probably be too cold for my birthday month.

Well... I haven't really done much for my birthday in a long time. But, when I was a kid, Dad would take me out to pick pumpkins to decorate for Halloween with. Late October is good for that. Or, we'd go to a haunted house. Or a fall festival... His fire department had those a lot. If he wasn't on duty, that's what we'd do.

I remember pumpkins in October... I always wondered why pumpkins were so important in Halloween.

I think it's a harvest thing. I'm not really sure, but I know they're good for carving faces into. I never really knew why people did that. It was just fun when I was a kid. The last year Dad and I did one was the first year he let me actually cut the design on my own.

[No problem, Laura. Keith was someone who's bayard thought he'd be best suited by a bladed weapon, so he probably wasn't a great example for kids, either.]
