Did you know her? The girl who was attacked?

We...we were friends. [Once more, her voice sounds thick, torn between concern for her friend and anger for the people that did this.] She is gifted, not like other humans. She was used as a living weapon before her time here, but she was trying to be better.

The man who controls her now, he's out for revenge against a plot where a sect of people tried to abduct some of our numbers and were foiled. Laura was one person, my brother was another, however he was able to kill those who tried to take him.

She's not like this normally. [She says this almost in defense.] She doesn't attack anyone unless they threaten her.

[gristle]

Okay. I get that. I'm just... pissed that some adult is hurting a kid.

[She'd fuck this guy up if she could.]

[She wouldn't like being told of Gyda's world, but then childhood as they know it here didn't last long.]

Once she is recovered, she will hunt him down. She's no slave and has a right to avenge herself.

Of course she’s not a slave! She’s a person.

But she's not a..[She pauses, trying to think of the right word.] she's not a regular person like you or I. She's gifted. Her senses are much stronger and she has living metal she could form into knives from her knuckles. She is training to be on the perimeter guard, where her talents could be put to better use.

But this is all of her own free will. We have slaves back home, it is the way of things, but you don't enslave such people, not when they are better suited for battle.

[gristle]

[For a minute Beverly just doesn't know what to say to all of this. It's just too new and too weird even for well... her.

Taking a deep breath, she's trying to remember that Gyda is a viking and not like from her world. But still slavery. Yeah.]

I doubt it. He wouldn't be alive otherwise, of if he had lived, he'd be too crippled to attempt this. I saw the video, he looks in one piece.

Don't tell him this, but actually the name for our people is Norsemen. He can keep thinking I'm viking though.

Mostly because it earned a certain amount of respect on hearing.

I was..I was dead just before I arrived here. There was a plague back home, you would call it the flu, but we had nothing like you have here to fight it off. I vaguely remember being called from my sleeping roll towards the Door, that lead to Riverview, and the doctors here were able to cure the fever.

[There's a sort of casualness to what she says, mostly because the memory itself was so fuzzy and in the past, it was easy to just accept it as something that happened. Besides, to think back now, it's nothing compared to what she survived now.]
