[ max isn’t big on typing — the device feels fragile and small in his hands and hitting the right places is an exercise in frustration, really — but the voice and video functions are similar enough to some of the things that can be achieved by furycrafting that they seem almost familiar. so here he is on the network, still in full uniform, looking very much like a roman soldier straight out of a history book, for those who have romans in their history books. (to those who know clark kent, he might also look like a younger version of clark pretending to be a roman.) ]
Can’t say I really understand what furycrafting’s gotten me here and I do have to get back, but while I’m here —

Clark is wearing a baseball cap and a light-colored jacket. The bar isn't that crowded at this time of day. That's good. He doesn't want to make a scene in public. ]
Max? [ Clark takes off his cap and speaks softly when he talks to him. ] I'm Clark.

and no, max wouldn't be caught dead saying "jiffy", if only because he has no idea what it means. but he can at least guess from context and so he doesn't bother painstakingly typing out another response. (the word "typing" is another one that isn't in his vocabulary.)
soon enough, there's a guy with a strange hat approaching him — and when he takes it off, max does a double take, glances at his drink, back at the guy, and then back at his drink. ]

[ the statement is too flat to be a question. the man could be lying, but even when max focuses (and there's enough water in his beer to make it possible), he can sense no deception. ]
