[ max isn’t big on typing — the device feels fragile and small in his hands and hitting the right places is an exercise in frustration, really — but the voice and video functions are similar enough to some of the things that can be achieved by furycrafting that they seem almost familiar. so here he is on the network, still in full uniform, looking very much like a roman soldier straight out of a history book, for those who have romans in their history books. (to those who know clark kent, he might also look like a younger version of clark pretending to be a roman.) ]
Can’t say I really understand what furycrafting’s gotten me here and I do have to get back, but while I’m here —
[ his posture and expression might have been professional until now, fit for a legionare, but here he grins, something rakish and wide. ] Where’s the nearest bar? Any recommendations for food or drink?
[ a moment later, he sobers again. in more quiet tones, he adds: ] Calderon, if you’re here as well, come find me.

I'M MAX
[ will he ever figure out how to turn off capslock? probably not. ]

Everyone else's doubles share their name. This is probably the multiverse's most unexpected coincidence. ]
There's something you should know about the city, Max.
Do you mind if we meet in person?

I AM AT A BAR CALLED PETES
JOIN ME FOR A BEER

I'll be there in a jiffy.
[ Max wouldn't be caught dead saying "jiffy", probably.
Clark is wearing a baseball cap and a light-colored jacket. The bar isn't that crowded at this time of day. That's good. He doesn't want to make a scene in public. ]
Max? [ Clark takes off his cap and speaks softly when he talks to him. ] I'm Clark.

and no, max wouldn't be caught dead saying "jiffy", if only because he has no idea what it means. but he can at least guess from context and so he doesn't bother painstakingly typing out another response. (the word "typing" is another one that isn't in his vocabulary.)
soon enough, there's a guy with a strange hat approaching him — and when he takes it off, max does a double take, glances at his drink, back at the guy, and then back at his drink. ]
Are you watercrafting yourself to look like me, right now?

Pardon? [ He looks as bewildered as he sounds. ] No, I can't do that.
[ That he knows of. ]
i hope gently feeling for clark's emotions is ok
[ the statement is too flat to be a question. the man could be lying, but even when max focuses (and there's enough water in his beer to make it possible), he can sense no deception. ]
a-ok by me!
[ Though usually they share a name as well. Clark is keeping that worrisome fact to himself.
He can't sense deception from Max either but Clark can't suss it out when he's faced with a good liar. ]

It is? Crows, what a strange place.

Likewise.
[ traditionally, a legionare's salute is a fist to the heart, but this man isn't an officer, is he? max is, or was. is he still one here? ]

Like this. You can set it to read out any text or turn the function off if it's not your preference.
