Hello everyone. My name is Clark. I'll try and keep this brief.

Firstly, I've drawn up a blank list and placed one on the bulletin board on each housing floor. If those with medical expertise feel comfortable, they can put their name, residence here, and — if they have one — specialisation, in case of an emergency. We have several residents who aren't from the same point in time, so if you'd like to volunteer to update someone's medical knowledge, please mark your name with an asterisk.

Secondly, ah-- [ a bit of a laugh. ] I'm from Kansas, which some of you might recognise as being host to some pretty bad weather. Now, I'm not going to say I'm paranoid, but-- I like to think ahead. So, I've made up some kits with some of the usual survival paraphernalia back home and distributed them between floors. Feel free to help yourselves if you need them.

[ No one has to use them, but he’d rather everyone knows they're available. ]

2013. I'm from Metropolis, have you heard of it?

It doesn't ring any bells, but I've stuck pretty close to the east coast.

[still, a place called 'metropolis' doesn't exactly sound like a small town. he should at least know of it.]

Have you heard of Brooklyn?

New York? Yes.

[ Tall and blond. This might be the man 'Simon' told him about. They're both from Brooklyn. ]

So we might not be from the exact same reality, but close enough.

[it isn't quite as hard to wrap his head around now. after some of the things he's seen over the past few years, maybe nothing should surprise him at all.]

You got family back there?

My mother. What about you?

No, not really.

[steve shakes his head, hating the portal a little bit for separating this man from his ma.]

I've got friends. A couple of them ended up here too.

[ Nobody's friends should be trapped. Clark feels for him. ]

Do you mind if I ask how many?

Two - Sam and Wanda. I couldn't ask for better people to go through anything with.

[he doesn't know that bucky's there, not yet. maybe it's for the best. he probably wouldn't be taking much time for conversations otherwise.]

Hey, if you need any help making more of those packs, or just anything at all, I'd be happy to lend a hand.

[ No 'Simon'. If he hadn't personally seen Bucky bring food to the shelters he might think Steve had a stalker. ]

I'd appreciate it. I'm making some more this afternoon. Second floor.

Same here. We're bunkmates.

[ Oops. Clark hasn't been using the bunk. ]

[well, floormates might be more accurate. steve hasn't been spending a lot of time in his room either, but enough to know that clark isn't one of the other four beds in his room. so he goes to the other, knocking on the door and waiting to see who answers.]

[ He's not inside when Steve knocks, just walking down the corridor with bags and an empty box balanced on his shoulder. ]

[it looks like he's got it covered. steve steps inside, standing to one side as Clark joins him.]

What sort of items go into these kits? Maybe I can be on the lookout for things.

I've got it.

[ Once inside, Clark puts down the box and bag side-by-side. ]

The usual. Food and water for a few days, a first aid kit, flashlight, and a radio. I'm trying to fit some tarp into it.

[steve's brows raise, either impressed or concerned.]

You must get some rough weather in Kansas. What did you do back there?

My family has a farm. We've been lucky not to have too much trouble from tornadoes.

Sounds like a pretty nice life.

[steve almost sounds wistful. oh, he loves new york, he does. but it lacks simplicity these days.]

It's peaceful, if you're looking for that.

[ It never felt like a life Clark could call his own. he knows he has a different purpose. ]

Here, could you help fold these? They'll go at the bottom of the box.

I don't know what I'm looking for most of the time.

[he nods, taking them and starting to fold, creases a little sharper than they actually need to be. sometimes the military just comes back to him.]

So I guess this is as good a place as any.

[ Clark has a sense for loneliness in others, having experienced it his whole life. He glances sidelong at Steve, unsure if he should say anything. ]

I wouldn't know about here just yet.

[ Fitting in somewhere isn't the same as belonging, and Clark wouldn't know what that contentment looked like even if it hit him in the face with kryptonite brass knuckles. ]

What did you do at home, Steve?

I was a soldier. After that I was part of a team.

[he doesn't mention that the band sort of broke up before he came here, but that feeling of loneliness intensifies.

still, he has a smile on his lips as he looks over at clark.]

I bet selling newspapers would've been their second choice. I did a lot of that.
