It's a facility here that's trying to help the city through studying magic? I guess. Do scientists study magic? That seems weird. But then again we did come i through a hole in reality, so I guess everything's a little weird.

Some do, I suppose. A greater understanding of the mystical arts could potentially provide explanations to scientific phenomenons.
