[Someone's having a little fun with his communication device. Now that the carnivale has ended - what a shame that was - he has more time to devote to exploration of the city. Including the technology in it. And this little thing they told him to carry around since the start that keeps making strange noises at him.]

[But at last, he has it conquered!]

So that's how this works.

[He grins widely and boops the screen once or twice before accidentally cutting the feed.]

So you don't have technology like this back home I take it.

[This is his everywhere, everyday face. You'll see it a lot if you see him often enough.]

Not at all, though it's been fun trying to learn it. Things change so often where I'm from, but this? Never seen anything like it. Never seen anything like what's in most of your city here, for that matter. The trees look familiar though, I'll give you that.

[That did get a faint chuckle from Shiro]

Well, that's good. At the trees are familiar. I've been on a few worlds where that was questionable.

It's not my city though. I just arrived here recently.

A few worlds, you say? That's very interesting. Feels like I've been missing out.

[What all has he been missing anyway? Oh well. Not like he hasn't the time to explore it all now.] You and me both. It was a collective "your." I haven't met the people who run this place, but they tend to keep themselves on high, don't they?

Well, probably not. We usually don't get this much information when we visit new worlds.

Ah. I haven't met them either. Must be a thing with them.

[Disappointing. But oh well. Five years is a long time.] That's too bad. With as much as I've seen so far, none of these people are from the same world. What is it? Nothing to learn from each other, or do they all just happen to be the same anyway? [His version of the world sure wasn't like anything here, though he was the one doing the learning from them. Or rather, the adjusting at least.]

[He nods. He's used to that sort of thing.] That hasn't changed, at least.

You mean people here are not from this world or there aren't multiple people from the same world?

That was my assumption. I'm certainly not from here and they said I'm not alone in that aspect in my... orientation. But there is someone here from my world. Really, I don't know where anyone else is from, just not from where I know. Leave it some time and I'll better know for sure.

Well, I know for sure I'm not from here. And I know one other is not either since he's also from my world. So I'm not alone either. We've done some traveling to different worlds, but even how we ended up here is weird.

See there? You just put more truth to my meaning. Near as I can tell, we're not from the same world, and yet here we are.

It seems that way. The question is why we have all ended up in this place together. I wonder if there is some similar trait we all have even if we aren't from the same world.

[He grins and taps the end of a nail against his lower lip.] They didn't tell you? If you believe the people who greeted you when you first set foot here, they might have told you we're here because each one of us thought, even on a whim, maybe we don't belong where we were. I recall I asked myself that just before this world took me, but it's hardly a serious thought. [Or maybe it was.] That's what they tell me anyway. I thought they'd at least keep to the same story with all of us.

I don't believe that. Yes, people wonder that sometimes, but usually not seriously like you said. Besides, we were in the middle of a battle back home.

[Whether that thought had crossed his mind or not at any point, he couldn't recall]

Can't say I believe it either. I'll confess, I did think that, but if that's why they wanted me here, I couldn't say. Best just to play their game for now and sort it out as we go.

Seems to be a convenient excuse. Everyone thinks that at some point. As much as I hate to say it, there's not much that can be done at this time.

[He's the kind of guy who goes after answers. Sitting and waiting is not his style so he feels out of place with this]

I'm Shiro by the way.

[He shrugs one shoulder, as if none of that really means much to him. Not right now anyway.] Seems right, unless you have a better idea. You're not hiding an army up your sleeves, are you? I don't mean the one attached at the shoulder. [He snrts into his own lengthy sleeve. He couldn't help himself.]

Undertaker. [A slight hat tip.]

[It took Shiro a moment at the comment, but finally he got it. Oooooooh. That was a "good" joke right there] No, not really. Can't do that.

Nice to meet you. Is that also your profession?

[He's weird. He won't bother to say it outright and he doesn't need to.] That's too bad. Your world hasn't come up with that yet either.

[A nod.] It was. Still is. If I ever get the opportunity. But I'll grant, it's a much smaller population than I'm used to.

Not really. Would be helpful if we had.

Well, it is a job that is always needed at some point in time even if it will take longer. Everyone will need one. But only once.

[He shrugs again.] Not much for doing about it now. Maybe it's something you'll figure out while you're here, if things keep going the way they are.

Oh? I suppose so. I've never rightly seen someone die twice. Fake deaths don't count. They wouldn't survive my parlor after.

[That comment did give him pause. Had he really just said...?]

Definitely good at your job it sounds like.

[Maybe he did. He's not telling.]

I am. Better for my business, that way. [Both of them.]

[It certainly sounded that way to Shiro. Maybe he'd misheard or that meant something else?]

Well, I can't imagine someone still being alive would be good for business.

[He's not telling.]

It isn't when they want to wake up on the table and they're meant to be dead. It tends to be a problem when I'm sent the wrong person, not that it's happened before.

Yeah, that does tend be a problem, if not for you then for someone else.

[Some how he doubts though that this person would really be concerned about the other person who made the mistake]

Well hopefully you can find something that will let you use your skills.
