[Steve is commandeering the floor's kitchen for the moment. With the festival going on, he gets more time to himself, but there's still the situation to consider. They are all new people getting used to Quarantine. So Steve sets up with his device, sending out a message while he takes a break from the activity.]

Floor five, clean up your messes. Loki, that means you.

[Because that's easier to start with than anything else he can think of.]

If we haven't met yet, my name is Steve Rogers. I'm working with the Perimeter Guard here in Search and Rescue. If you have any problems, you can contact me directly. It doesn't have to be an emergency situation. We're all adjusting here, so if you need anything, feel free to come up or give me a call.

I typically go for a run in the morning and train in the evening. Just in case anyone's interested in joining me. Thinking about taking a better look at what's surrounding us, too.

[He's offended already, because like Hell he's standing for someone taking his name again. That went bad enough before. He'd say more, but her question is simple enough that he manages a simple answer. Control. It's all about control.]

[Well. He's never been perfect at that, either.]

[Okay, now that's just stubborn. She's trying to find the differences so she doesn't screw up again, but he's not helping.

It's a times like this she regrets not taking the time to study Arty's art of reading people's auras. It would really solve a lot of problems.

[He doesn't have a California temperament.]

[And as a soldier he lived wherever the deployment took him. Home has a completely different meaning after that. Where he's from at this point is Earth, as sarcastic as the answer had been stated.]

[Blocky Steve is kind of Grumpy Steve. But she's not going to throw Bucky under the bus.

She nods slightly.]

Okay.

Well. Then I guess now is the point where I should tell you that I'm not a terrorist...

[He frowns deeply at that.]

What?

My name's Fatima. People assume.

[And she laughs first, because if she laughs at herself, no one can hurt her.]

And you volunteer the option to strangers? You're not going to give people a good image of you if you don't give them the right impressions first. If you want other people to see you for who you are, you should start with that. Feeding into lies doesn't fix anything. I doubt that any of the people here would jump to assumptions when we're all new to this world. Don't make jokes like that.

[Yeah, Blocky Steve is definitely Grumpy Steve. And Fatima knows a no-win debate when she sees one. She's constantly getting tangled up in them back home.

But she isn't back home. She doesn't have friends. She doesn't have people she can rely on. She doesn't even have anyone from her own world.

Maybe it's that aloneness that stops her from arguing.]

...I just wanted someone to run with.

[She drops the joke, but Steve notices that she doesn't say anything in regard to her own image. No defensive retort or comment to tell him he's stepping out of line.]

We can still run. [Apparently it is as simple as that.]

Great.

[She suddenly looks exhausted.

Talking with people. Who knew it would be this complicated?

One thing's for sure. She's going to have to start taking notes on all of this shit. It's so over her paygrade, not that she would EVER admit that.]

I'm sorry.

[For the first time, Steve actually seems to relax slightly.]

You don't have to be sorry. Just be yourself.

It seems that being myself involves me living with my foot in my mouth.

[Truer words were probably never spoken. Fatima isn't exactly famous for looking before she leaps.]

Or being yourself means being comfortable with yourself.

Not everyone is going to be accepting or fair, but that doesn't mean you shouldn't like yourself. And maybe start with an easy hello. I hear that one works well.

[Blocky Steve is also a bit of a high school guidance counselor. But Fatima doesn't mind. She can take the words in the spirit in which they're given.]

A novel approach. Let me try it.

See? Not too bad.

[Once they actually have a normal conversation going, he seems to lighten up some as well.]

My name is Steve Rogers. I used to be a soldier with the U.S. military, so you might find my methods to be a bit more than you're used to.

[She smiles. And it's not too forced. There's nothing like goading Fatima's pride.]

My name is Fatima Merali. I've trained at dojo since I was eight.

I think I can keep up.

Do you. Well, you're welcome to come along.
