Has anyone noticed the message board at headquarters?
[Yes, he's talking about the Perimeter Guard missions.]
I've had a really bad feeling lately, and my suspicions are that I'm not alone on this one.
[He knows how touchy some people can be about saying against this place, but Ed and gods didn't mix well. He spent too much of his life denying their existence just to spend five years under the power of them, or at least beings claiming to be them - and if he eventually could convince himself they weren't, he'd be much happier. That didn't mean he wanted a repeat of that.]
Some of the stuff going on recently has been a little too familiar for my liking, and if there's any possibility that some sleeping god is behind it, I'm going to go check it out.
[It's not easy spending your life afraid of glitter, okay. Between the carnival, the glitter, the sudden influx of people - which he's learned just began a few months ago - this place was starting to look suspiciously like a certain other event in his life. Even if he's wrong, he doesn't even want to chance that this thing waking up is going to change the dynamic everyone had grown so used to here.
If it being asleep is what's causing the portal to function the way it is, though? He doesn't want to kill or destroy it, either. In his experience that would send most people, if not everyone, home - and a lot of the residents here didn't want that. If he was being honest, himself included.]
[ooc: Chloe and Ed are at it again, Chloe will have a log up sometime next week to get this plot going. In the meantime, Ed's suspicions are super high and no one else cares so he's none too happy, atm. I will be throwing up a public plurk for plotting and discussion, and linking it hereonce I've put it up.]

[She huffs at him. It'd only been a suggestion.]
Fine.
Do you have a better plan Mr. Hero?
no subject
[Honestly, he's not a fan of stabbing things in the back, but waking it up to fight it sounded suicidal, at best.
After a pause. He just sounds tired, now.]
... Don't call me that.
no subject
[Yuffie holds up a palm to the screen.]
Okay, okay. I get that it could be world shattering but lighten up. We'll figure it out and one thing I've learned is that the world doesn't stop getting into trouble.
no subject
[So not the right thing to say, Yuffie, but he manages not to look more frustrated.]
I don't know about whatever world you're from but "world shattering" and "lighten up" don't usually go together in any I've been to.
no subject
We got this. [Yuffie's tone sounds more confident than cocky.] I believe that when we figure out what's going on, we can handle it. Plus, it's a lot easier to think of a plan if you aren't freaking out.
Take it from someone who was dangled from a cliff once. Panic does not help you out of any situation. [She often flails however Yuffie reserves Panic for moments where the world and peoples lives aren't in the balance.]
no subject
[Surely, she didn't think this was panic. This was logical strategy, the kid was struck blind for three weeks and didn't panic - he's not going to panic over this.]
Dangling from a cliff is hardly the scariest thing in the world.
[He would know that if he had that memory, but it's gone for now so. He's mostly talking in hypotheticals. Still, he'd done enough that was way scarier in comparison to question where her concept of panic actually fit in the grand scheme of things.
One day, he can tell her about dangling from cliffs. Especially the part where it was his own teacher that created the damn thing where he was standing.]
The world can do whatever it wants, that doesn't mean I'm going to sit back and remain inactive when something that could potentially make it worse is occurring right under our noses.
I'm going to look into this. If no one else cares, they don't have to come.
[End of story, as far as he was concerned.]
no subject
[It's so tiring.]
I care. I'm coming. I got stuff you can't do after all.
[Yuffie's been through a lot. She finds that the easiest way to deal with life sucking is to not ever think about it. There are things always present, somewhere in the back of her mind, but she doesn't focus on them.
The world has almost ended to many times.]
no subject
[Yes.]
Not always.
[That's almost an admittance. He seems confused when she says she's coming, but he doesn't question it.]
Yeah, like what?
[Curious, not doubting.]
no subject
[She sorta forgot that their last conversation had been all about food. Which is strange because it had been the most informative conversation she'd had in a long time. Yuffie can now say she knows the difference between a sweet and a dessert.]
I have materia. The two I think you'd like is Time and Ice.
Want to see?
[It's one of those things that's better in person but she'd happily show him through the video and freeze something around her.]
no subject
Time?
[Don't tell him you can alter time, Yuffie - that's just going to make him wonder why you don't use it to steal things. Like other people's food.]
Sure. Maybe when you have some free time you can stop by... You know where to find me.
[She's welcome to take that as an invitation rather than show him over the network, he wasn't going to fuss about it either way.]
no subject
Yup! I've mastered it too. [She's too awesome to need magic to steal from people. That and she's trying really hard to kick the stealing habit. It isn't working but she's trying.]
I'm free now... ish. Okay two hours from now. Or an hour from now.
[She's not sure if she's forgotten to be somewhere.]
Or maybe right now.
no subject
[He might be feeding into her ego a bit, but with a brother like Al he knows how that feels, so he certainly doesn't mind.]
Whenever.
[He was waiting for Jason to get back from work, but he's sure that whatever Yuffie has to show him - even if Jason returned before she arrived, he could see it too.]
no subject
[The phone drops and Yuffie disappears from sight. It takes her about 48 seconds before she returns to the screen.]
Hey, so I am free now.
You still four floors down?
[She isn't going to mention the details of what she'd just done.]
no subject
At the question though he just blinks.]
Unless they started moving while we weren't paying attention...
~to~ Action
[Yuffie flashes him a grin before shoving the phone into the pocket of her shorts. She doesn't bother to turn it off though the screen goes black as it's pushed against her thigh.
She's wearing tan sorts today and a dark purple shirt. Per usual, her bellybutton is showing and she's wearing all of her personal possessions on her. It's how she travels, even in her own 'home'. Yuffie doesn't really believe in permanence.]
Evening. [She waves in a chipper voice.] What you want to see first? Also do you have something that moves because I was thinking about it on the way down here and that'd really help.
[You can't stop something that isn't moving in the first place.]
no subject
Right...
[She sure is chipper, but it'd be pointless to complain about. Considering his broadcast he certainly hadn't gotten any happy conversations in the last several minutes.
His eyebrows draw together as he tries to think of something, before shrugging.]
I can't think of anything- but maybe when Jason gets back he'll have something you can use.
[He's started to lose track of time, how soon was Jay due back, anyway?]
no subject
I can cast it on you.
You don't have to worry, it'll wear off after awhile.
[She places her hands together where there is a green orb that begins to glow.]
Ready?
no subject
How am I supposed to observe you doing it if you cast it on me?
[He's definitely watching that orb very warily, because what the fuck.]
no subject
Trust me!
[Yuffie continues the cast with a confident smile. The silver image of a clock appears beneath her feet, ticking slower and slower before disappearing and reappearing beneath Ed. He'll find that everything he does, he does at half the speed he'd normally move.]
I cast slow.
How do you feel? Don't worry. Like I said, it'd wear off and I can also cast Haste on you and that'll off-set the affects and speed you back up. Stop, does exactly what it says and makes it so you can't move until the spell wears off.
[She might need to cast haste since she isn't sure when it'll wear off...]
no subject
Why does everyone always say that....
[Talk about the fastest way to ensure he'll be wary. And only more-so at the sudden visual of a clock appearing out of nowhere. Yeah, this was ... not good. Even if it would be pretty handy in a battle, he hadn't exactly signed up for this
What the-
[An arm lifts on instinct but it's certainly not going to do anything to block the spell, and as he lowers it he can see she's not exaggerating.]
Okay.... how long does this last, exactly?
no subject
[Yuffie replies with a bright grin.]
Just give me a second.
[She places her palm on the materia again. This time a red clock appears at her feet and it's ticking quickly. Another second and it's around Ed, releasing the slow spell while also making him faster.]
There. Told you that you could trust me.
no subject
Yeah...
[He actually sounds a bit in awe, but he's looking himself over as if to make sure something weird hadn't happened to him in the meantime.]
Neat trick, but how helpful is it if you don't know how long it lasts? Can you actually use it against monsters or whatever's out there?
no subject
[Yuffie rolls her shoulders in a shrug.]
Turns out that it doesn't last til the end of a race. [She used it and lost against stupid werewolf boy.] I can. If you want me to figure out how long it lasts I can time it.
[A pause.]
Do you own a watch?
[Yuffie does not.]
no subject
Considering we weren't fighting, what would that have meant for the duration? Is that the first time you've used that thing outside of a fight-?
[Or race... but at least that also had a finish. Did not sign up to be your lab rat, okay?]
No.
[That might sound a bit tense, but his pocket watch hadn't been returned to him and Purg didn't have electricity so time was more or less based on the clock tower you could see from any part of the city. If you could .... call Purg a city. He sort of lifts the device he has in indication.]
This tells the time, so I didn't see a need for one here.
no subject
I'll figure it out and let you know.
[She'd need something that's outside of her sphere of influence to make sure that her spell didn't tamper with it too. She doesn't think it will but just in case.]
The phones are pretty awesome. Mine mostly reminds me when I'm supposed to be at work. [Though she's still frequently late.]
