Has anyone noticed the message board at headquarters?

[Yes, he's talking about the Perimeter Guard missions.]

I've had a really bad feeling lately, and my suspicions are that I'm not alone on this one.

[He knows how touchy some people can be about saying against this place, but Ed and gods didn't mix well. He spent too much of his life denying their existence just to spend five years under the power of them, or at least beings claiming to be them - and if he eventually could convince himself they weren't, he'd be much happier. That didn't mean he wanted a repeat of that.]

Some of the stuff going on recently has been a little too familiar for my liking, and if there's any possibility that some sleeping god is behind it, I'm going to go check it out.

[It's not easy spending your life afraid of glitter, okay. Between the carnival, the glitter, the sudden influx of people - which he's learned just began a few months ago - this place was starting to look suspiciously like a certain other event in his life. Even if he's wrong, he doesn't even want to chance that this thing waking up is going to change the dynamic everyone had grown so used to here.

If it being asleep is what's causing the portal to function the way it is, though? He doesn't want to kill or destroy it, either. In his experience that would send most people, if not everyone, home - and a lot of the residents here didn't want that. If he was being honest, himself included.]

[ooc: Chloe and Ed are at it again, Chloe will have a log up sometime next week to get this plot going. In the meantime, Ed's suspicions are super high and no one else cares so he's none too happy, atm. I will be throwing up a public plurk for plotting and discussion, and linking it here ~~once I've put it up~~.]

[ Jay was at work, so, its easy to see he's in his perimeter guard uniform. As he holds his phone up like he's snapping a selfie. Mostly to try and look like he didn't get video chats as well as he did. Still trying to hide himself. ]

In his house at R'lyeh, dead Cthulhu waits dreaming.

[ Jason spoke, almost in a deadly serious tone. A sleeping god put the old HP Lovecraft stories to mind. ]

[WTF, Jay. Just... WTF. Ed quirked an eyebrow, pretty much debating if he was being mocked right now, but then Jay spoke again.]

Well, I wouldn't say no to an offer. No idea what's even out there at this point.

[ That quirked eyebrow got one returned. ]

Tell me you know what I was quoting Ed... Don't let me down on this.

[ He shook his head as soon as he said before shrugging. ]

I'm not scared of whatever's out there. Count me in, when I get in tonight we can talk shop if you want.

[When Yuffie replies her face is too close to the screen and for some reason she has the phone upside down.]

[She should probably read that and she might, now that she realizes that it's there. It also means that she should have probably been paying more attention during orientation; oh well.

She refocuses on the rest of what he says and shakes her head.]

Leviathan is the best god. [Just to put that out there.] What is this sleeping god 'sides really tired?

[It takes her awhile to reply to this. If only because she's still trying to make sense of the creeping sensation climbing up and down her spine. It's easy to get tangled in all the paranoia and superstition -- a kind of apophenia she's never been comfortable or willing to indulge in. Until now, apparently.

Because even she can admit that she's been feeling unsettled. An odd dream, the feeling of being watched. Of closing one's eyes and opening them, expecting to see someone staring down while one slept. Her voice comes out a bit reluctant, as if she's not sure how to relay this information.]

Something's been off to me too, recently. I've been... seeing things.

No idea.

[This is said fairly flatly.]

Sounds like a plan, we'll figure it out.

I wish the books here were not wrong. But, anyway, I'll be home in an hour or so. You going to Still be there?

[Oh, Yuffie. Sometimes you just come off like an over excited puppy. Very happy and curious, not entirely aware of what's going on. He might be making a mental note to show her how to do this next time he sees her.]

We don't know what it is, at least I don't - and no one else seems to care much. If it acts anything like the ones I've dealt with before, I'd rather not have to deal with it waking up.

[Why does everyone keep talking to him about other gods? Leviathan, Cthulhu. Is no one focusing on the situation at hand, here?]

[He's still salty about the internet thing with Chloe, even "accurate" pages being a nightmare from his perspective. Not books, too....]

I'm not going anywhere, what's wrong with the books here?

I'm counting on it being the god. That tends to be a constant in my life, anyway.

[ al's sitting nearby, a book in his lap as he frowns at ed. not because he's angry with his brother. it's because he's got some of the same suspicions and when they share the same suspicions, usually something is up. ]

What should we do, Brother? Whatever it is, I'm going with you.

You and me, both.

[Not his whole life, but the last several years, at least. He's going to do what he can to prevent it from happening again.]

[Ed glances up when he notices Al was listening rather than focusing on his book, but whatever - it's not like he was keeping it a secret from his brother, he just knew five years in other worlds had skewed his perspective a bit and there... might require a more delicate approach there.]

I don't know, Al. The first thing I'm doing is trying to find that temple Chloe told me about.

[You know, the quick flash in a dream or vision she had. That's totally solid evidence to go on a wild goose chase over, right?]

I can definitely sense something stirring, which is probably worth looking into. Most gods aren't evil, just have certain plans that require people like us to see through.

[She turns the screen so that it's right-side-up. See, she's got it.]

Does magic work on it?

Most of the large things I've fought to let you use spells like STOP or anything like that. [It'd be cheating if she was able to use her Materia like that but Yuffie thinks its stupid.]

Also, if we wake it up we can fight it, right. Is that really so bad. I bet between everyone here we can take it down.

[ nodding, al closes his book. he's not reading it anymore anyway and he's worried about what might be going on. ed seems determined and that makes al determined too. ]

We'll go together. If it is that sleeping god, maybe it'll help us.

[ always the optimist. ]

It wouldn't be the first time.

[He never really considered the whole "not evil" thing in the past. He'd kind of lumped Purg's gods all into one category and Attollo had some... politics going on there, but they were desperate, so he wasn't sure he'd call them evil. At least, not most of them.

Not that he thought about it, though... Only one or two of Purg's gods could realistically be called evil, too. He knew of at least one, anyway. Although he hadn't liked Thylas, Thylas sure hadn't been as bad as Zhygure in his opinion.]

Nope. Not for me either. The best we can do is seek the god out. It might be possible to put it back to sleep or if it awakens, to treaty with it. I know these kinds of things; it's pretty much my life, considering...

[ his dad is a god, after all. and so is half his family. hell, percy would be considered his cousin if he really thought about it ( and frankly, he doesn't want to. he's over percy. ) ]

I've read most of the books you've likely seen me reading around the room more times than I can count in my life. And I can tell you shit's wrong in every version I've found here. Name's changed, one had communicators in Victorian England. It's weird, I have some notes compiled already because I could let one go, but it's been about seven different books now. Also, I'm gonna switch to text until I get home.

The reluctance doesn't seem at all out of place, after their earlier conversations about it. To say he'd been disappointed certainly wouldn't be inaccurate, but here she was now, and he wasn't sure how to take that.]

[He frowns slightly, thoughtfully. He didn't want to push it if she didn't want to get involved, but he wasn't sure what else to say.]

Al and I are going to check it out.

[That much was a definite already, and Jason offered to come too, but he's still waiting for him to get back from work.]

Don't count on it. It could be what's making everything about this place so strange in the first place.

Well, if you're willing we could sure use the help. I'm hoping the thing just stays asleep and doesn't bother us. The risk of the impact of anything changing at this point isn't one I'm interested in taking.

[Keep it quiet, keep it asleep, keep the status quo in order.]

[He's still sighing internally.]

I don't know anything about that.

[At the last part he practically shouts his response.]

No! That thing could be what's running this place, what do you think will happen if we destroyed it?

[Another, scarier god might take over instead. He's seen it, Yuffie.]
