[ His voice remains soft as he finishes: ]

[ He briefly switches the setting to video, a dark haired man now in view of the screen, round glasses over his eyes as he offers a warm smile. ] While I won't be able to identify you for — [ He gestures to his eyes, waving his fingers. ] Obvious reasons. [The voice was posh English, and the tone was perpetually amused. Matt wouldn't have to strain to picture a smile.]

[He's shaken her.. enough that she's actually speaking, for the first time in several days, and her voice is a little rusty from lack of use. He may recognize the sound of a heart monitor in the background, and other general hospital machinery.]

[ Matt keeps his voice kind as he huffs into a smile. ]

[ He listens carefully as soon as she speaks. He doesn't forget voices, not with his ears, but there isn't familiarity. The flicker of beeps ring behind her, alerting him of her location, but the pieces don't match. ]

I'm sorry, I don't — I don't recognize your voice. Do I know you?

My name is Letha - we met several months back, but you disappeared before I had the chance to become friends with you properly...

[She hesitates. How many blind lawyers with his exact face can there be, this has to be the same man, right?]

[Kate listens and then watches as Matt switches the video on his screen. She has a lot of questions for him but most of them require more context than she's comfortable giving so she starts with her first question.]

Are the laws the same here?

[She's noticed that people with weapons is a very common thing.]

I suppose I am, among many other things. My club showed up here via the entire building. So I've got floors to rent out to those who'd like something a little more LA modern, and a few nibbles on people taking me up on my offer. Usually Maze handles all the business aspects, but as she wasn't brought here as well, that leaves little old me, and I'm more of a verbal contract sort of chap.

[ With all the new people arriving in, it made him a little less new but he still didn't feel all that familiar with their new home, regardless. This new resident - Matt Murdock - being a lawyer gave a change of pace. At least, they weren't adding more superhero or vigilante types to the ranks. ]

What's an attorney? And how do you do it when you can't see?

[They don't really have the modern day concept of lawyers in Norse times and Ivar hasn't really picked up on how the law works yet in the Quarantine. He's become good at avoiding consequences for his considerably violent actions. In ancient times, things are decided by judges, but that usually involves getting a king involved.

The second question comes from Ivar always being curious about those who have disabilities, considering how his own inability to walk has defined his life.]

You've probably heard this before but how many 'justice is blind' jokes have you been subjected to?

[ He's genuinely curious -- since he was about to do it himself. #theworst ]

That's ... actually what I've been studying to find out. Most of the basic principles seem to be the same. But the, uh, leniency seems to be a little heightened here.

[ Though he really isn't all too surprised to find differences. Since he isn't home anymore, after all. ]

But that's even depending on what country you come from.

I'm actually surprised in how much it doesn't differ. The school systems and public transit — things like that, take heavily after modern society in my world. With an entirely different, well, planet, I'd have expected the atmosphere to be a little more — alien.

[ The whole concept of being elsewhere is enough of an overwhelming situation, but he has to wonder if there's something purposeful in how similar everything appears. ]

[ It's not typically a question he has to answer. But he supposes in this place, anything goes. ]

Well, it's an attorney's job to have an in-depth knowledge of a society's laws. When those laws are called into question, I represent a client to prove that they're acting within the law. It's — really more talking than having to see.

If I had a dollar for every time, I'd probably get paid better than my day job.

[ Even Foggy's probably thrown that joke at him every now and then. ]

[ He can sense in her voice that she's probably not lying, but — he doesn't know her, not from her voice or her name. ]

[ Matt's dealt with plenty of street guys who's thrown heavy swears and insults at him, so there's little to leave him fazed. ]

It's a pain to comb my hair in the morning, but I wouldn't call it a weakness.

Apparently so, yes. The club and the whole building. My suite is the penthouse, but there's floors between the two that it seems a shame to waste by leaving empty. They've all the modern conveniences and whatever... portal chicanery brought it here has done so in a way that has it connected to the power and sewage grid, so...

I've noticed that a lot of people are used to carrying weapons or are from places with different laws. I can't imagine it'd be easy to placate everyone.

[She pauses and thinks it over in her head.]

I also wonder about some laws. They don't always protect everyone.
