[The video crackles on and there's a somewhat familiar face that appears, though it appears somewhat bored. The username suggests that this is not Jacob Kane and instead someone that looks identical to him. Well, if he stopped attempting to look like a lazy college student, that is. When he speaks, it with a flat monotone that's devoid of any emotion.]

If there is anyone here who knows of the man named Jacob Kane, I would like to know his whereabouts as I've found something of his that I would like to return.

[He looks down briefly and something starts making almost angry hissing sounds, but it's muffled by something.]

Stop that. I know you can behave better than this. [He looks back up at the camera.] Dear brother, if you're receiving this, I found your shadow.

[ a brother of Kane? nico's interest is immediately pinged. he recalls cain's strange aura, the way the man could see his own strange lifespan, and the way he seemed connected to the romans. all of which makes nico curious about this new arrival and if he's somehow similar.

the hissing of the unseen creature also piques his curiosity. ]

Are you like him?

[This... is not Cain. That much is clear, but it still sticks hard in Dodger's mind as he watches the video. He guessed it by the time he got to that part, but - yeah, this is Cain's brother, isn't it? And if Jake likes to go by "Cain", then a shot in the dark would say...]

Is your name Abel?

[ This actually takes a few moments to come on. As soon as his shadow disappeared, Cain was waiting to see if Abel would track him down and appear in his usual way. When that didn't happen, he grabbed his device and... well, he saw this.

Now his hand is shaking a little because it was a brief separation period, but they'd only been together again briefly, too. Easy to emotionally distance from when he was on his own again so quickly. Abel is here now, and Cain isn't alone, and he has to take a few breaths and steady himself. Get a grip. He plays the message twice (sucking in a breath at the stupid username) before responding. ]

What are you doing to my Reaper?

[He tilts his head, pondering the question. He does not like that question.]

[Jesus, Cain is gonna have a field day when he sees him, isn't he? At least, he'd seemed pretty beat up when they talked about him last...]

I heard you got killed a while back, though... didn't expect you to look so much like him.

His aura is clouded. Death stalks him, but can't reach him. I can sense these kinds of things.

[ it's a question he has to ask. he's not fond of people escaping death when it's meant to come to him. it tends to make his buddy Thanatos a bit cranky. and it tends to piss off his dad. ]

[Oh there he is. There is a slight frown on his face as he looks at the camera.]

Currently, I am stepping on it as it is not behaving as a Reaper should. I would like to return it because it is being obnoxious.

[ He's quiet, brain just absolutely in overdrive and whirring from place to place. ]

Where is it? Where are you? [ Beat. ] What was it doing?

[He's only going freak out a little bit. Abel shrugs slightly.]

We are identical twins and both of us stopped aging around the time of my death.

Ah. In that, we are not. I have been dead for nearly twenty-eight hundred years.

[Thankfully, Abel is dead as a doornail and doing his job to make sure other people don't try to run away from death.]

My brother happens to be a notable exception to the rule of death. His time will run out eventually, but as he is now, it is meant to be that way.

[There is a sigh. Aren't you listening, brother?]

It is under my foot, as I said. As to where I am, I am heading towards the housing, but I was rudely interrupted by your Reaper arriving and assaulting me. Reapers do not assault Enforcers, brother.

If you're dead, then how...

[ nico's quickly doing the math in his head too. ]

Practically since the founding of Rome. That's not a coincidence, is it?

My Reaper attacked you?

[ Something about this doesn't sound right, but Cain is already on his way out the door. He's taking the stairs because it feels more active than using the elevator and might just be faster, too. Of course, he's also trying not to look like he's rushing, just going at the usual little-brother-pace. ]

I am an Enforcer. I make sure those who are meant to die actually die.

[Oh right, is he not supposed to spoil that? whoops, hopefully Cain doesn't get grumpy.]

[That explains... some things, he guesses. About as much as he expected to figure out. It's going to be jarring for a while, seeing Cain's face and not hearing things he'd say or seeing expressions he'd make.]

You as big on... cooking and helping people as he is?

[ he doesn't know. well, that makes things hard. still, nico finds it a bit weird that a pair of twins from before the founding of rome are here and they can't die because one is already dead and the other cannot die... but more than that, something catches his attention. ]

You work for my father?

It very aggressively launched itself at me and declared how much it missed me. Have you not been socializing the poor thing?

[Wow, did you not learn anything from watching Abel dealing with other Reapers.]

I will be waiting for you. Along with this troublemaker.

[sad hissing noises]

It doesn't come out for me, you know that.

[ Reapers are apparently terrified of them being together and they can't touch Cain anyway. Why would he think his Reaper is overall any different? Either way he is so coming along. That sad hissing just gets his brows twisting. ]

Does it not want to be my shadow anymore?

[Welcome to Abel, the weird emotionless robot twin of Cain's. You get used to it.]

No, I am not. I only cook for my daughter.

[...He's digging it, honestly. Even if it makes this man even harder to crack than Cain is.]

How old's your daughter?

If I do, I would not know. The Reapers lead the Enforcers and who they answer to is something they keep even from me.

[His world is weird and seemingly godless.]

[ nico doesn't know that. when he hears reaper, his thoughts go to thanatos. ]

It sounds like you do. [ a pause, and then he continues. ] My father is Hades, god of the underworld, ruler of death.

[Well, he's definitely a bit of a mystery.]

Fourteen. I adopted her after she was using her sight to help people escape death.
