Gamora is working on that “reaching out” thing, on trying to get a better idea of who and what surrounds her in the city, and she might as well use it as a chance to stretch her legs and potentially come up against a worthy opponent or two. ]

And what is a Jedi?

[ "Lightsaber" at least sounds pretty straightforward. ]

[ Obi-Wan is starting to feel like he needs handy cards. ]

A peace-keeper. Meant to keep the balance in the galaxy.

[ Ah, so similar to the Nova Corps. Or perhaps the Guardians.

(Though, really, she tends to assume most peacekeepers are going to be much more organized than the Guardians.) ]

Tell me about your weapon. Is it suitable against differently-made swords?

[jedies]

[ He runs a hand through his beard. ]

It should be. It's never given me any kind of trouble before. It does, however, cut through metals effectively, but I can adjust the power settings on the lightsaber.

[godslay]

[ She looks at him and the lightsaber appraisingly, then finally nods. ]

I would be willing to test my skill against yours, if you're interested in crossing swords – provided your blade won't damage mine. I assume it's some kind of energy field?

[jedies]

It shouldn't, with the right setting.

[ They normally tweak it for sparring anyway. But for normal metals, he'd probably have it set for the temple lightsabers. ]

It is a plasma blade. Concentrated light in its deadliest form.

[godslay]

[ That seems to fascinate her – but she's intrigued by new weapons as a matter of course. ]

You said it's the weapon of the Jedi. I take that to mean it's very specialized?

[jedies]

Well spotted. They require a certain amount of sensitivity and training. Only the Jedi carry sabers.

[ Obi-Wan tactfully avoids the Sith and Grievous. He's not keen on turning the conversation towards that direction. ]

[godslay]

They can't be activated without this... sensitivity?

[jedies]

Anyone can activate a lightsaber. Creating one and fighting with one is a whole different matter. It requires special materials and skillsets.

[godslay]

You build your own weapon?

[ Color her impressed. ]

[jedies]

Yes. Is that very strange?

[ Lightsabers are difficult to craft and you need some force-ability to make one, but building weapons hardly seems noteworthy. ]

[godslay]

It's not something I have much experience with.

[ At least not personally – and makeshift, on-the-fly weapons don't count, either. She didn't make Godslayer herself, though she admires its craftsmanship, but she's spent enough time with Rocket to appreciate weapons-building skills.

Because damn, he sure can build a giant cannon in... minutes. ]

[jedies]

I suppose not. For the Jedi, the creation and maintenance of our lightsaber is crucial.

[ The Jedi are unusual in that respect, though there are plenty of mercenaries and vagabonds that craft their own unique style. So to speak. Or perhaps Obi-Wan has been fighting too long. ]

[godslay]

I see.

[ She can definitely appreciate meticulous warriors; reverence for one's weapon is paramount, in Gamora's opinion. ]

If we are to spar, I should know your name.

[jedies]

I am Obi-Wan Kenobi. Is it safe to presume your name is Gamora?

[godslay]

Yes, that would be a safe assumption.

[ Her username isn't exactly subtle. ]

And what do you do here, Obi-Wan Kenobi?

[jedies]

I work with the Perimeter Guard as mental support and instructor.

[ It's suitable for a Jedi, though Obi-Wan can't say he's very happy with it. ]

[godslay]

Then we're likely to run into each other. I serve as a captain of one of the Search and Rescue squads.

[ She's actually fallen into leadership fairly well, and she finds she enjoys it, more often than not.

Though she doesn't suffer fools lightly. ]

[jedies]

Perhaps. Do you wish to set a date for this?

[ Obi-Wan finally turns off his lightsaber, tucking it back onto his belt.

Sometime in the next week, if my schedule allows for it. But considering how quiet things seem to be lately, there may not be much of a demand for my unit.

[ Not that there aren't always monsters to smack around, but they haven't been particularly aggressive. ]

[jedies]

[ Obi-Wan nods. ]
