Gamora is working on that “reaching out” thing, on trying to get a better idea of who and what surrounds her in the city, and she might as well use it as a chance to stretch her legs and potentially come up against a worthy opponent or two. ]

What is a red mage?

[ Ah, that tells him a bit about her right there, and he quietly files that information away. ]

I am. But in a broader sense, we practice a certain form of magic that uses our own bodies as conduits of sorts. We then expend the energies we've built in spellcasting through precise sword strikes. It's ingenious, really.

[godslay]

[ ... Spells. Right. ]

Magic. With swords.

[ She repeats it, to be sure she has it right.

She could get behind that kind of magic, actually. ]

Is it something that comes naturally where you're from or do you have to pursue it yourself?

[verflair]

The ability to wield magic varies from person to person, but if the talent is there, red magic can be taught. I myself have trained a pupil or two in my day.

Am I to assume by your reaction that magic is not so common where you come from?

[godslay]

Not that I've encountered. But it seems that many here share similar talents to yours – if different kinds of magic itself.

[verflair]

Ah, yes, I've yet to meet anyone else here who practices the red, but even back home, we are few and far between.

For what it's worth, I wouldn't be flinging fire at you were we to spar.

[godslay]

I appreciate it.

[ Even her tone is a bit dry. ]

Though I wouldn't be opposed to incorporating it; adapting to what I encounter in combat is crucial, and I have little experience fighting against magic.

I admit I’m hesitant to spar with the use of magic. I have healing skills at my disposal, but all the same, I would hate to hurt someone.

However, I know not your own capabilities, so I would be willing to withhold a final decision on that front.

My body regenerates on its own, and you may find me more durable than most, in many other respects.

[ Burns? Psh. Easy. ]

For a moment I took you for a roegadyn, one of the peoples of my home, but I’m getting the sense that I’m off the mark.

Considering I have never heard of a roegadyn, yes, you would be very "off the mark."

I am the last of my kind, unless you have Zehoberei in your world.

I regret to say I have never heard of the Zehoberei either. My apologies.

[ He knows what it’s like, to a point, to be the last of one’s kind. He’s not the last miqo’te by a long shot, but he’s been the last of his order for longer than he cares to count. He inclines his head a bit, a silent motion of sympathy. To say something on the matter just seems uncouth. ]

Where do you put your skills to use? Are you a part of the Guard?

Aye. I am a member of search and rescue, as well as in charge of orientation for new recruits.

[ He gives a little shrug ]

It keeps me busy.

[godslay]

[ She hums quietly, because she gets that. The Guard is a way to spend her time, and it's fulfilling enough on its own. ]

I am one of the Search and Rescue squad captains. Perhaps we'll work together at some point.

[verflair]

Mayhaps we will. I look forward to seeing you in action.
