Second Ax [@the.boneless, video]
[Ivar's improving on using the video function. This time, he gets it on the first try. His voice is just a little above a whisper and he's looking off to the side at something just beyond the camera. The background shows he's in the forest beyond the city.]
Does anyone know where I can find a fire-proof bridle?
[The question seems a bit of a non-sequitur until he turns the camera to the side. There's a Ponyta standing not too far off. Ivar's been trying to get it closer all afternoon. It's taken a lot of patience, but now it's only about ten feet away. Its diamond-shaped eyes narrow as it watches the Viking and the Pokemon tosses its head, too suspicious to come any closer.]
Come on. I won't hurt you. Just a little further. Come on.
[For someone who usually keeps everyone at arm's length with a combination of sarcasm and toughness, he sounds far more gentle than usual. It seems to be working, as the Ponyta takes a hesitant step forward, ears pricked forward in anticipation. Ivar's face is a combination of wonder and awe. He's about ten seconds away from completely freaking out. This creature looks like something from an old legend, a horse with a mane and tail of fire. This qualifies as the coolest thing he's seen since he came to the city.]

[Not to mention where are you even gonna keep a fire-horse, bro?]
no subject
[Psh, a small detail like that isn't going to stop the Viking. Taming a horse on fire trumps all logic.]
no subject
[True that. Stephen is just gonna go with this, it's not like it's any skin off his nose.
Besides, fire horse. That is pretty badass.]

[Who let these two conspire together? They'll be lucky if the Ponyta doesn't light the forest on fire with them in it.]

[It wouldn't be the first time something Stephen was involved in went up in flames, figuratively or literally. He's practically an expert by this point.]

[They need adult supervision. Well, more adult supervision in Strange's case. Someone who can intervene and tell them what a very bad idea this is.]
[Action!]
Better than burning the fuck out of their hands, anyways.
Just crossing to where Ivar was, but making sure not to move too quickly or loudly; the animal seemed uncertain enough as it was without him making a ruckus.]
I figured some gloves enchanted the same way wouldn't hurt for now. [Attention entirely on Ivar, he's used to the game of 'make sure the potentially dangerous animal isn't spooked' he's played it millions of times by now.]

It snorts and twitches its ears at the sight of this newcomer, but it doesn't back away, counting on the flames of its body to protect it. Ivar grins and slides on the gloves over his hands. They fit snugly over the top part of his arm braces.]
I knew there was a reason I liked you.

He'd hang onto the rope for now, until the Viking asked for it. There was no telling if the Ponyta knew what a bridle was, so better to let Ivar keep his hands free to coax the animal closer.]
These should last a couple days, if needed I'll set some up with a more lasting enchantment to go along with the bridle. And when the gloves or rope turns blue, it means that you've got about two minutes before the enchantment's done. Just in case this isn't normal fire, that sometimes adjusts the timing on these things.

[Ivar makes a clicking sound with his tongue, perking the Ponyta's interest once again. His voice is soft and gentle, such a difference from how he usually acts. He holds out a hand, drawing the Pokemon closer. Its nostrils flare as it walks closer, stopping just close enough for it to nuzzle Ivar's hand gently, searching for either food or comfort.]
Come on. Come here now. We're going to be friends, you and I.
[In the same tone and without turning away, he asks Stephen:]
The rope, please.

[He keeps his voice low, and as calm as he can manage, watching as Ivar was coaxing the Ponyta. Whatever else the creature was, it didn't seem too perturbed by his presence at least which was good. He'd feel a bit guilty if he came to help and only wound up scaring the creature away. But it seemed it's interest in either Ivar himself or potential treats was enough to keep it coming forward.
When Ivar asked for the rope, Stephen offered it over, hanging from one hand so the other could take it.]

He loops it over the Ponyta's head, settling it onto its neck in one smooth movement. For a moment, it doesn't react, standing perfectly stock-still. Then it jerks up its head, whinnying loudly, before rears on its hind legs, flailing its hooves around in a dangerous manner.
Ivar's nearly jerked right out of his seat. For such a little foal, it's still strong. He loops the excess of rope around one arm, struggling in a battle of wills with the Pokemon. It drags him right out of the wheelchair and onto the ground, but still he won't let go. Only one of them is going to be more stubborn than the other and it's going to be him. He's got this...maybe.]
