Good afternoon. My name is Roy Greenhilt.

[Seven words -- no, no, he doesn't have to keep himself to the word limit of a Sending spell with this strange device, even though he's given to understand its transmission functions are most analogous to that spell.]

[Don't mind that brief pause. He's just going to be here acting like he knows what he's doing.]

As many of you are no doubt aware, there are numerous exploratory missions set out to benefit the quarantine and ensure the survival of its people. I am seeking others who would be willing to join a party dedicated to routinely undertaking these missions, as well as various other freelance opportunities that may present themselves. I'm an experienced adventurer and party leader, so I'd like to put those skills to use here for the betterment of the quarantine.

I generally prefer in-person interviews but I recognize we're all a bit busy adjusting to our new circumstances, particularly after the storms that just rolled through and a recent concern about attacks on the quarantine, so I'm willing to be flexible. My own duties aren't to be put aside on a whim either! [Roy offers a grin to the camera which is a little stale, the joke lame enough that it proves he's not quite comfortable with this whole thing.]

[There are thousands of things lurking in the shadows. Including Fatima, to a certain extent.

Dragons aren't part of that set.]

Just dinosaurs. And they're extinct.

Dinosaurs are extinct in your world?

[This keeps getting weird and weirder. And as much as Roy can personally wish he'd never have to deal with dinosaurs again, hearing of a total loss of a family of creatures is nonetheless pretty alarming.]

Well, all things considered, that shouldn't be too much of a surprise.

Still pretty unsettling to hear, though.

[About as upsetting to hear that dragons are real, she reasons.

There are going to be a lot of surprises in store in this place, aren't there? Fatima's not sure she's ready for it all.]

I'll have to start taking notes on all of this...

[Why is it bad that dragons are real? The metallic ones are wise, ancient forces for Good, and the chromatic ones have excellent treasure hoards.]

[And the gem ones are just weird, but who ever sees one of those anyway?]

I think I've run into more technological devices I don't understand than you have into species that you don't expect to see so far, so I'm pretty sure you still have an advantage on me in that respect.

Well, at least I know dragon lore.

[A pause.]

I promise you there won't be a test. [Aside from a potentially practical one if a dragon does show up.]

[She laughs.]

Good to know.

[Honestly, as strange as these revelations are, they could be more uncomfortable. Fatima is at least easy to talk to, which is a relief after all the weirdness they'd been experiencing of late.]

I won't say our current circumstances are ideal, but I think we absolutely have the potential to make the best of them, and a responsibility to try. So long as we can work towards that goal, I think we can smooth out anything else that arises from being from very different worlds.

[Even if she's always a little wary of optimism. Auntie Diana's an optimist, and what has that gotten her?]

[Optimism?]

[Oh no. Optimism is the belief that things will go well. Optimism would be thinking that so long as they stick to a common goal, they won't have any troubles. That's the exact opposite of what Roy believes. No, they will have problems, as a guarantee -- but they have within them the power to resolve those problems. That's merely belief in the power of hard work to overcome difficulty.]

Considering we're all holding instant communication in our pockets and belt pouches, I don't think you have to worry about losing track of me.

[Roy might be surprised--and disgusted--by how many people Fatima has ghosted in her time. But that's a story for another day.]
