Good afternoon. My name is Roy Greenhilt.

[Seven words -- no, no, he doesn't have to keep himself to the word limit of a Sending spell with this strange device, even though he's given to understand its transmission functions are most analogous to that spell.]

[Don't mind that brief pause. He's just going to be here acting like he knows what he's doing.]

As many of you are no doubt aware, there are numerous exploratory missions set out to benefit the quarantine and ensure the survival of its people. I am seeking others who would be willing to join a party dedicated to routinely undertaking these missions, as well as various other freelance opportunities that may present themselves. I'm an experienced adventurer and party leader, so I'd like to put those skills to use here for the betterment of the quarantine.

I generally prefer in-person interviews but I recognize we're all a bit busy adjusting to our new circumstances, particularly after the storms that just rolled through and a recent concern about attacks on the quarantine, so I'm willing to be flexible. My own duties aren't to be put aside on a whim either! [Roy offers a grin to the camera which is a little stale, the joke lame enough that it proves he's not quite comfortable with this whole thing.]

I'll be the first to admit that this is a somewhat higher level of skepticism than I had hoped to be greeted with, but I'm not particularly surprised.

How good are you at fighting monsters? How well equipped are you?

As a mid-high-level adventurer I've fought a fairly diverse array of monsters, including demons, dragons, liches, vampires, and dinosaurs. With regards to equipment, my sword is a starmetal alloy that also happens to be an ancestral weapon.

Look, I'm just trying to get my hands on a shotgun so I can shoot some monsters in the face. My pistol only does so much. Would going along with you give me a better chance of getting my hands on one?

[What kind of question is that? Roy can't keep a minor frown off his face, even as he makes an effort to answer the question reasonably.]

An adventuring lifestyle generally tends to provide rewards in the form of superior equipment and wealth to purchase superior equipment.

Yeah that's kind of a crappy line if that's what you're using to persuade people. I don't know much about an "adventuring" lifestyle, but I know what it's like to try and scavenge for what I need. Most of the time you go out there isn't any guarantee you'll find anything.

I'm looking for something very specific, you know.

I apologize. I have led an adventuring party for a significant amount of time, one that holds the fate of the world in its hands. That isn't an exaggeration, as I just recently delayed a plan for the gods to destroy the world and remake it. Without prevarication, I can state that under my leadership, my team grew from having trouble with large numbers of orcs to being able to take down a dinosaur-mounted army and its leaders, each of which were more powerful than us, with severely diminished resources.

[And it's not like anyone can confirm or deny, so he might have to go with just believing the guy. Much as Adam would like to counteract, his knowledge is mostly theoretical, not on the field. Goddamn Lazer Team.]

Depending on the mission and the requirements, we may need more than one group of people anyway. But as is, I volunteer to help. I have plenty of combat training and experience.

What's your combat focus? Any supplementary skills I should know about that may come in handy on exploratory missions or ones with an emphasis on results outside of combat?

My training was focused on the use of a tool I don't have access to here, but in any case, I am a firearms and hand-to-hand expert.

As for supplementary skills, I have an excellent tactical mind, and I've led men. I've trained in survival in the wild, as well.

Well, I'd like to understand what the tool is -- I understand there's a reasonable chance we may be able to locate similar items here due to the long-term accumulation of multiplanar resources.

Firearms are the chemical-based projectile weapons, right?

[Merali girls don't sit on their hands. It's a fact that was drilled into Fatima from an early age. They're warriors and heroes and modern-day saviors. They don't just sit by and let others handle the fate of the world. So as much as Fatima's pleased with her posting, it's not quite enough.

Not nearly enough.

She takes a few minutes to prepare her response. And a lot of that involves putting on makeup and tying her hair back into a tight knot so that she looks older than she really is. When she does respond, it's in a measured tone of voice, disguising her eagerness to do something.]

I would be interested in an expedition like that.

[They can probably laugh later. Starting ages for every class but the most educated begin at what, 16? Results count more than appearances, after all.]

[Pleased to see a positive response, Roy is smiling when he returns the message.] Excellent. What capabilities would you be bringing to the team?

[She scowls a little, doing some internal calculus. Fatima's still not sure about the people or the place. The Masquerade probably still doesn't exist. But that doesn't mean that people are just used to...well. Things. Things like her.

Well. I have several years training in hand-to-hand. Some archery. I'm working as a hydroponics assistant with a specialty in herbs. I know plants like the back of my hand.

[In fact, she can even talk to them. But that's a detail that doesn't need to be shared right now.]

And I don't take "no" for an answer.

[But this world has taught him that he can't expect normality, not when he's talking into some gnomish gadget that replicates magical communications. So he lets it go for the moment.]

Well, let's be fair, sometimes the party leader has to say no and expect it to be listened to. That may not be a plus. [But he says this with a grin, having understood her point.] Knowing plants is definitely a plus, particularly if we're going to be traveling through unknown terrain. Anything else?

[To be fair, Fatima is used to being the "party leader." She's fought and struggled and clawed her way to the top of the heap. Back home. It frankly feels like a wretched demotion, being brought here.

But that's her personal baggage. She won't spew it on a stranger right now.]

I mean, camping isn't my thing, but despite the fabulous you see here, I can rough it.

He'd never dreamed of anything else BUT his current position since he was in college, and descending to a subordinate role would be -- well, a pretty new thing. Not that he hadn't done it once... and it had gone horribly.]

Well, I'm given to understand there aren't taverns conveniently spaced on day's travel apart outside the walls, so that is honestly a pretty handy skill. I'll also give you marks for presentability in social situations.
