Question.

Does it snow here? Real snow, not just a little ice on the floor that melts as the day goes on.

[Just look at that grumpy face. He's got his reasons, okay?]

I don't have a wheelchair back home. Only my arms to get me around. So you try dragging yourself through snowdrifts taller than your head and see how much you still like the stuff.

Yeah, but I bet you don't look like Bambi making his way through a snow drift when you go out into the stuff. I do.

[Did he just reveal he watches Disney movies in his spare time? Ah well. Everyone needs a hobby.]
ragnarsson: ([15.4] Stubborn)

[Ivar just sighs, running a hand over his face. It's not that he particularly minds the nickname, not after the one he's been saddled with his whole life, but he can figure out what this one stands for.]

I walked right into that one. I have no one to blame but myself.

Everyone seems to forget he grows up into a deer that beats the shit out of his rival and a pack of dogs.

[Okay, so maybe the nickname fits Ivar a little better than initially thought.]
ragnarsson: ([15.15] What do you mean)

Like...three?

[Hey, movies are really cool when you come from the 800s. He still hasn't quite grasped the concept that they're the same every time you watch them.]

I just fast-forward through the part where his mother dies.

[Because he's an orphan and being reminded that his own mother got shot in the back makes him cry every time.]

Those movies are all fucked up. They're all cute and innocent and then someone's parent dies. Just drives home that message of "No matter what you do, your parents are going to be taken away from you for no good reason."

[Just the sort of thing children need to learn early on.]

Yes, but very true to life. Parents always die when you least expect it.

But I'll see them again someday. My father is in Valhalla and my mother is in Hel. [Not the Christian one, though they're pronounced the same way.]
ragnarsson: ([15.16] No not this)

[personal profile] ragnarsson 2017-12-16 12:30 am (UTC)(link)
It keeps me from being eternally depressed.

[Only somewhat depressed. He also got his feelings out by taking revenge on those that had killed his parents, so yay for violence?]
ragnarsson: ([15.13] I failed)

My father was tossed into a pit of snakes by an English king after being betrayed by another who claimed to be his friend. My mother got shot in back by my father's ex-wife because she wanted to claim her crown. It all happened almost at the same time.

[Yes, Ivar's family history was one big dramatic ninth-century soap opera.]
ragnarsson: ([16.6] I challenge you)

[personal profile] ragnarsson 2017-12-19 04:37 am (UTC)(link)
My brothers and I were in England just before I was pulled here. We'd killed one king and we were on our way to do the same to the other. Then I know my father can rest easy in Valhalla.

Killing my mother's murderer...I'm still figuring out a way to accomplish that which doesn't end up with me dead or then having to face my oldest brother, her son, all pissed off because I killed his mother.

[The problem with Vikings killing family members is that once it starts, it rarely stops at just one.]
ragnarsson: (Second thoughts)

[personal profile] ragnarsson 2018-01-01 07:17 am (UTC)(link)
I'd prefer to kill as few family members as possible. I don't have that many left.

[He won't always think that way. Ivar's ambitions and insanity means he'll eventually steamroll over anyone who gets in his way.]

Besides, Bjorn is tough. He once killed a bear with nothing but a knife and his hands. Both of us would end up dead if I went up against him.
