video; @sif (Thor 3 spoilers)
[ Sif is... not overly used to public speaking, unless you count rousing yells to fire soldiers up for battle, or perhaps the occasional drunken rant about something or other. Hence she looks more than a little stiff on camera, unsure how to address a crowd of unknown size that she can't even see. ]
Greetings, I am Lady Sif of Asgard.
[ Regardless of what happened to her home, that is how she will always refer to herself. ]
I am a member of the Perimeter Guard, and I am currently in need of sparring partners. Those of you who know what it means to be an asgardian will know what that says about my physique and how it might compare to your own abilities.
To those of you not familiar, suffice it to say that my people live for a long time, and I have spent most of my years training for battle. It requires a great deal of force to harm me, though blades will fare better than blunt instruments. As for my strength, it is quite considerable, though I could not say what that would mean in relative terms.
If you think yourself up to the challenge, I would be grateful if you would make yourself known.
Thank you.

Not too far from her lie a pair of wooden practice swords, it seemed best not to start out with sharp blades. ]

She approaches the mat, making sure to get into the other woman's line of vision to not spook her.]
I hope I didn't keep you waiting for too long.
no subject
You did not.
[ She put her weapon aside and picked up the two practice swords. ]
I suggest that we use these rather than sharpened blades.

[That way no one accidentally loses a limb. Rey shrugs off the staff she carried with her, and the small pack she had. She took the practice sword in her hand and remembered what Ivar taught her..]
Ready.
[And now it's a game of who strikes first.]

She doesn't use her full strength, since that would likely shatter the wooden swords, but Rey ought to feel a pretty powerful rattle in her bones all the same when she parries. ]

Rey is quick to act, moving to pull back and bring her blade down to strike at Sif's side.]
/tries to fake swordfighting knowledge
[ Said as she bats Rey's blade aside and marks a thrust aimed at her chest. ]
it's okay
[She manages to block the thrust aimed at her chest and even steps back to create distance between them. Rey is dodging and trying to find opportunities to strike. Even as they practice, the stance and the way she's moving..it doesn't feel right. A lightsaber isn't a sword...
Maybe she really should try to practice on her own.
By the time they start to wind down, Rey is panting and feeling a little drained.]

[ Sif can tell that Rey isn't feeling particularly happy with her own performance, a feeling she remembers only too well from when she began to learn the way of the sword. ]
You are used to a weapon that weighs less, yes?
[ Only a guess based on the way Rey moved and the strikes she had attempted. ]

[Failure can be just as good of a teacher as succeeding. Failing meant she knew what to improve upon and what not to do next time.]
Something like that. I'm used to using two hands with a weapon...and my staff is a bit lighter than this.
no subject
[ She had figured a lighter kind of sword, perhaps. But this made more sense, when she thought about it. ]
Show me your stance again.
no subject
Yes, I've had it for a long time.
[She gets into her stance again, feet shoulder width apart, knees slightly bent and both hands on the hilt of the sword.]
no subject
[ She took a slow lap around Rey, studying her. ]
Have you been receiving training since you came here?
no subject
[And a friend, but that kind of went without saying.]

And to think of my movements like a clock, 12, 3, 6, and 9. Those are the directions I can swing--block or attack.

[ Rey was learning as she went. So...there’s a lot of room for more lessons. ]
