I feel like my first words to the multiverse should be something big and important but I've been staring at the screen for a while now so I'm just gonna stick to the basics.

Hi. I'm Dave.

I got here a few days ago. I was assigned to what I'm gonna call the nerd unit in the Perimeter Guard, which means I should be developing stuff to make the rest of the Guard's life easier. I've been reading a lot and kept an eye on the network but-- you know, at the end of the day, it's easier to go to the sources and just ask people what they need based on their experience, so...

Yeah. What do you need? What kind of problems have you encountered on the other side of the wall? What weak spots should we be working on to improve? Do people go out there a lot? I mean more like, REALLY deep in the jungle. (Or forest, or valley, or whatever it is. Probably defies definition.)

Because not gonna lie, guys, I though I would see a bunch of drones on the wall. How come we don't have an army of drones already?

I'm pretty sure I saw that movie. A computerized defense network is all well and good, up till it gains self-awareness and abuses time travel.

You and everyone else, apparently. What happened to the good old "oh look this robot actually is learning how to feel love and compassion" flicks?

One, no AI necessary if that bothers you, it can be controlled from here. And two, time travel is not part of my resume. [His sorcery has a few limitations and that is one.]

Buuut, okay, he does love him some awesome gadgets, which is why he adds on a little more helpfully: ]

Something like that might be kinda useful for Surveyors, though. Sending a little camera into deep, dark caves to make sure nothing's actually sleeping in there before we peek in.

Sure they do, when the robot learns to love it decides it must protect its new family at all costs!

[If this guy is going to argue sci-fi then shit is going down. ...except he's now warming up to Dave's idea and ok, he appreciate that.]

That was the plan. Do you work for the Perimeter Guard? Have you been out there?

Yes to both.

I'm with the Surveyors and Salvage and Repair. [ Peter's not entirely sure how he ended up pulling double duty, but apparently he's not the only one. Plus, he actually likes what he's doing, most days, so he can't really complain. ]

It's a fun time, up until you run into Random Man-Eating Monster #5068 who hasn't had lunch in a while, for whatever reason.
