I feel like my first words to the multiverse should be something big and important but I've been staring at the screen for a while now so I'm just gonna stick to the basics.

Hi. I'm Dave.

I got here a few days ago. I was assigned to what I'm gonna call the nerd unit in the Perimeter Guard, which means I should be developing stuff to make the rest of the Guard's life easier. I've been reading a lot and kept an eye on the network but-- you know, at the end of the day, it's easier to go to the sources and just ask people what they need based on their experience, so...

Yeah. What do you need? What kind of problems have you encountered on the other side of the wall? What weak spots should we be working on to improve? Do people go out there a lot? I mean more like, REALLY deep in the jungle. (Or forest, or valley, or whatever it is. Probably defies definition.)

Because not gonna lie, guys, I though I would see a bunch of drones on the wall. How come we don't have an army of drones already?

Oh man, is it really that bad? Because I would love it if it was "saving the day with prevention just before things get rough".

I really hope so.

Well, so far it's mostly been that, but I've never been an optimist. That's a great way to end up sorely disappointed.

If they felt they needed to put up WALLS and GUARDS for those walls then... yeah I'm not optimistic either. What's the worst 'saving the day at the last minute' you've had to do so far?

It's absolutely fine!

Depends. Do you mean here, or where I came from? Because I definitely haven't had as many close calls here as I did back home. That's saying something considering the fact they have an entire military unit to protect the city here.

I meant here. I wanted to know where the priorities are. You know, besides making the wall as strong as possible. Are monsters the worst case scenario?

[technospeak]

Monsters are the most consistent threat, yes, but they're not the worst possible scenario. Just from going through the database from the last year or so, we've got weather events, malfunctioning tech, corporations seriously screwing up releases on various items, and even a widespread plant-based amnesia epidemic.

I'd say the wall is probably the priority for the Wall R&D team but I have no problem banking extra hours taking care of some of this other stuff.

Woah. This place really doesn't catch a break, does it? I can see why the wall is the priority, I mean... weather and teach are easier to deal than monsters rampaging through the city.

...those corporations don't get sued or anything?

Exactly. I'm glad it was where they decided to put me, I definitely think it's where my intellect and particular skillset is of the most use.

You'd think. Maybe they are. I don't exactly follow the news much.
