I feel like my first words to the multiverse should be something big and important but I've been staring at the screen for a while now so I'm just gonna stick to the basics.

Hi. I'm Dave.

I got here a few days ago. I was assigned to what I'm gonna call the nerd unit in the Perimeter Guard, which means I should be developing stuff to make the rest of the Guard's life easier. I've been reading a lot and kept an eye on the network but-- you know, at the end of the day, it's easier to go to the sources and just ask people what they need based on their experience, so...

Yeah. What do you need? What kind of problems have you encountered on the other side of the wall? What weak spots should we be working on to improve? Do people go out there a lot? I mean more like, REALLY deep in the jungle. (Or forest, or valley, or whatever it is. Probably defies definition.)

Because not gonna lie, guys, I though I would see a bunch of drones on the wall. How come we don't have an army of drones already?

Hey. Yeah, it's given. It's short for David. I'll probably stick to "jungle" then, thanks.

A drone is a small machine that can fly and carries a camera with it. You send it to survey an area so you know what you may encounter when you get there.

Truly? Technology is all rather clever, isn't it? Still, technology can also be faulty. Wouldn't something more akin to a scrying device be more useful? I know of an enchantment that allows for long-distance vocal communication. I'm sure it could be augmented to transfer visual records as well.

I feel it might be prudent to mention I'm a magic researcher at Gramarye. I don't know if we currently have any contracts with the Perimeter Guard, but I'd be willing to help if you need a consult.

Oh, hey. I actually got "Magic Consultant" with the Wall Research and Development unit. I'm just more used to science than magic, I'm still getting used to my spells - I've only been a proper sorcerer for a month, I think? And I like combining both anyway. Think we can connect a scrying device to the communicators?

"Old" meaning "out of current use"? If so, all the better. I prefer uniquity.

Yes, I should think so. There's something magic about these communicators, after all. I would need to work out the specifics...but yes. I'm sure we could.

Yeah, pretty much. David is a super common name, but I don't mind it.

I know it sounds like it's been a short time but I swear I'm not a complete newbie, I promise. I'm not an expert either but having to fight some bad guys at home sped up my training quite a lot.

It is a rather short time. I've studied since my 5th birthday.
I'll grant you it most likely helped, but that is all the more reason to practice. It's dangerous otherwise.

Have you spoken to someone using the video function? What are the odds the two of us now, for instance, are speaking the same language.
