[The feed opens with a huffy looking Laura, sitting in front of the screen like it's a PSA announcement or some such — and judging from the glancing up at what must assuredly be a teacher, it's exactly that. Or something. She scowls at the camera again before looking down at the paper held in her dainty little hands that have totally never hurt anyone ever, no sir. She reads it blankly, and it's very clearly she's the worst podium speaker in the entire universe:]

I have agreed.... to read aloud, so that I will not be suspended for the week.

I would like to formally apologize for anyone I have ever stabbed, kicked, punched, or bitten... It was not my intention to hurt anyone and I will try my best from this point on to control my temper, both — in the complex and at school. [She wrinkles her nose, looks deadpan at the camera, and continues.] I am sorry to Tabitha for shoving her nose in the grass during recess. Even if it was because she was being unkind to another student, it does not give me the right to use... 'force'.

And I am sorry for using... Spanish expletives toward Jared, and hitting him in the throat with his own backpack. Even if he was being rude, it does not... excuse violence. [She looks so annoyed, save her.] From this point on, I will do my best to stay in school... for the whole school day. I will try not to leave past the wall.

[She puts the paper on the desk, calmly.]

... And I will not steal the chocolate milk from the cafeteria anymore.

[More gravely:]

But if Susan insults my accent ever again, I will shove her into the trash ca—

[huh the feed ended suddenly how about that

... she's in detention now]

It sounds to me like Susan deserved what she got. Jared as well.

[Ciel looks amused, chin resting on his hand in his office at Funtom Toy's and Candy.]

Jared isn't very smart. He keeps getting himself into bad situations.

[AKA her wrath, mostly, but you know. Jared, man.]

... Schools are very weird. They make everyone who gets involved to blame.

Clearly. Nobody with an ounce of intelligence would do anything to earn your ire.

[Jared needs punched in the teeth. Sadly, Ciel can't help with that. And she doesn't need the help.]

Not a very good system. It makes me glad for having had a private education, I wish that much could be offered you here.

[Heck yeah. This is why we're buddies, Ciel.]

A private education? Then someone taught you in your home?

[Such good buddies. Someone needs to support her solutions.]

Mm, since I was very young I had teachers coming to the estate to see to it I knew everything an Earl's son should know.

What is that? An Earl?

...... Is it someone who is in charge of toy stores?

An Earl is a nobleman. It places me in the position of a lord over a specific estate, meaning I oversee the wellbeing of the people living there. I also live in service to the Queen of England.

I do happen to also run a toy store though. It never hurts to have other sources of income.

You are a good toy store runner... I have the bunny on my bed.

[3v3 She hugs it sometimes. Don't tell anyone.]

[He smiles. It warms him inside to know his toys are enjoyed.]

I'm glad. I wanted to open a toy store since I was small. So it's nice to know my toys are enjoyed.

[He won't tell a soul.]

They are. You do... a really nice thing for kids.

Sometimes it's hard to be one.

Someone told me being a kid is the best years in someone's life... but I don't know if I believe it.

I'm glad you think so. It makes my job that much more worthwhile.

[Ciel lets out a soft snort.]

They speak from a rather privileged viewpoint. One in which they had nothing to truly fear while you and I are quite aware of how awful it can be. Different types of awful but still, neither of us have had any reason or chance to properly enjoy our childhood, have we?

[A nod of agreement.]

I did not know childhoods were supposed to be... different than mine.

Not for a long time. It was all I knew.

I knew what it could be. On both sides. I endeavor not to judge for it as a result.

I am glad you're having a better chance now. Even if you have people like Jared and Susan in your school.

... I guess it could be worse. There are some good kids, too.

And I have people like you, anyway.

That's true but what was awful was awful. And you deserve better.
