Video; Round-Trip Home
[The video opens up with Ivar sitting on the edge of his bed, phone recording in one hand, and a knife being fiddled around with in the other. It's clear he's got something on his mind.]
So it turns out if you properly motivate people, they can get that portal fixed up to get you back home.
[It's best not to ask what motivation that was, but Ivar being Ivar, most everyone watching can probably figure it out.]
I'm going back home for a while to take care of some unfinished business. I left in the middle of a war and I need to see that through before I come back. [He pauses.] And don't bother trying to talk me out of this, I've already made up my mind. I'll see you all in two weeks.
[He waves goodbye with the knife and then cuts the video. Looks like the Quarantine has a reprieve from the crazy Viking for the next fourteen days. But he'll be back. Ivar's far too tough to do something as basic as dying back in his home world.]

[She knows there's little point in convincing him to stay or for her to go with him: she's dead and it's only fair he'd see the end of the war. She just hopes that if he does get killed, he'll be sent back here instead of right away to Valhalla.]

[He offers Gyda a small smile. He knows leaving is going to be hard on her, but she understands better than anyone that he feels he has a destiny to fulfill.]
Keep up your training with your weapons while I'm gone, alright?
no subject
[Even by their time, she was considered too young to take care of babies, but she could still help.]
[His request did manage something of a smile from her atleast.] I have been getting better. [There's a moments pause as she thinks over her next question.] Will you be doing any raiding in England?

[Really, he's a little worried. He's never left Winter alone for this long and has no idea how she might react without her father around.]
After I finish killing King Ecbert, we'll be doing plenty of raiding.
[At least he hoped they would. Part of the problem of having no clear leader of the army is that everyone had a different idea of how to run things. Ivar definitely thought he should have been in charge. He was the one Ragnar had said would be the leader of their people.]

[Gyda's not so sheltered as to not understand what happens to a raid, but she is still a daughter of vikings and the thought makes her smile.] If you can, could you get me something from the raid? Maybe some of the papers the priests paint on or just something small? A... souvenir, I think is what they're called here-something to remember a journey by.

[He grins at Gyda's request.]
Of course I will. Maybe I'll bring you back a pet priest of your very own.
[Not that he thinks of Athelstan as a pet by any means anymore. He's a member of the family, strange as Ivar thinks of that to be.]

[Then he says the next bit, and however he might be joking or not, she at first tries to be serious-and only manages part way.] Actually, I think I might like one of the female priests... [She frowned, recalling that there were no valves or female priests with Christians.] Nuns, yes they're called nuns.
[She hoped he could figure she wasn't being entirely serious. She had plenty of older women companions here. Someone her age would be more appreciated.]

[He grins at his own little joke. He'll do his best to bring back a souvenir for Gyda. He's grown to love her quite a lot in the time they've had together here.]
As proven by Athelstan, they're quite enjoyable to have around.
