@R.Greenhilt: Video
Good afternoon. My name is Roy Greenhilt.
[Someone isn't in a festival mood; Roy wears his armor and carries his sword as a rule, and today is no exception. In fact, he has carefully chosen a spot by the wall to remind the viewer of the hostile world outside this contains area, and by extension, the moral and ethical responsibility they each have to aid others on this world who might have to deal with it.]
[Presentation, Roy has learned, counts for a lot.]
I'm looking for accompaniment on a mission outside of these walls. According to city officials, who have detected this via some sort of sensing array, there's a group of intelligent beings out there whose numbers are decreasing, and I believe this needs to be investigated and these people helped, possibly by bringing them back here.
To that extent, I am looking for people who are capable of driving the automated vehicles here, as well as those capable of protecting them. Healers or those with ranks in Heal would also be appreciated. If I'm able to assemble a small group we'll be departing as soon as possible, so please be aware this may curtail your festival experience.
[That ought to cut down on people who wound rather be partying than helping others, at least.]
Please contact me at your earliest convenience if you are willing to come along on this expedition. Thank you for your time.

That sounds like an excellent resume, though. Asking purely out of curiosity, what is your preferred means of fighting?

My field first aid is pretty good, too. Field first aid is medicine on the go.

[Admittedly, Roy thinks that people not knowing the fundamental rules of reality (as written in the rulebooks) is pretty important, but he's quickly learning to keep this opinion to himself.]
no subject
Oh, and that guy further down who thinks he can 'probably do something useful' is pretty good in a fight. He's an idiot, but he's good in a fight.
[It's probably a good thing they're not going down the path of 'rules of reality' as they apply to Roy, because Natasha is never going to be able to shout the words heal check in the heat of a battle and take it even remotely seriously. Just not happening. Though at least she's getting used to people in armour who come from medieval fantasy style worlds. That's something, right?]
no subject
I've talked to Scott before, I did have the impression he could be helpful.
no subject
[Not that you asked her. Don't mind Natasha, this is just similar enough to running ops back home to be almost comfortingly familiar.]

You don't think we'd be able to get everyone back in one transport truck? If we strip it down internally, keep the armor, it would still be light enough to travel fairly quickly. The treads would be a great help over the terrain.
If their numbers are decreasing, then we must assume that they will be an even smaller group by the time we can get to them. We must also assume that there is a hostile and dangerous force behind the shrinking number. In that case, one truck would be easier to defend. If we're taking smaller vehicles, they'll travel faster, but again they'll stretch our resources. We'll need far more people to defend and operate the pair of them.
I suppose in the end, it depends on how many you can recruit. If each vehicle were completely autonomous and didn't need to count on the other for protection and support, it wouldn't matter if we got separated.
[Mission prep, mission prep, mission prep! All other parts of her brain have shut down, and it's such a welcome relief.]
no subject
[And even setting aside all practical considerations, Roy is obligated by duty and choice to work within the system wheresoever possible.]
no subject
[She doesn't have to understand why a system is in place, or even what the system is for. If it's the only way they get the trucks, then that's what they do. It doesn't seem particularly dangerous to do it that way. A little redundant, but there are worse hitches for a mission to have.]
I'd appreciate a rundown of all the information you've been given on the situation when you get the chance. Once you know when we're heading out, please let me know. I like to be prepared.

I will pass on what I know of the mission as soon as I figure out how to do that. Hopefully not too long...

It may shock you to hear I don't expect that to actually happen.
no subject
No one's gonna put in equal effort, especially if you're paying them equally regardless. So are you giving out incentives for greatness or not?

Alright, equal shares then. Name's Dodger. Don't expect me to cover anyone's ass if we run into trouble, but I can drive well enough and I got some first aid knowledge. But unless I'm getting an extra share, gonna draw the line at not letting anyone die. If they get hurt, it's not my problem.
Whatcha got for leadership experience?

(I'm working on the strong assumption that we can be displaced through time as well as space, because otherwise me being here has resulted in my world's end.)

are you fucking serious
holy shit

do you actually, seriously believe you're in a comic strip? and you gotta work by D&D rules and be a hero and shit??
[This is incredible.]
can i have whatever you're smoking?

okay, sure. and my chaotic neutral alignment is outside of my control too. i aspire to take care of myself by whatever means necessary.

i'd hate to be stuck with one of those goody-two-shoes that needs to FIX everyone.
when are we shipping out, soldier?

Video. @fraulien.zweihander
[It takes Sieglinde a moment to figure out how to make her phone show her face. It had been explained to her, but to be honest most of it went over her head...
After a few moments, though, she manages to blunder into it. She's in the barracks at the moment, and not currently wearing her armor, so the face Roy sees will be that of a seventeen year old girl, with blonde hair tied back in a bun.]
We met at the festival. I am Sieglinde of Catarina - I was the one in the armor, who bumped into you.
If there are people beyond the wall who need help, I'd be glad to be of service.
no subject
[Well, who is he to judge? She's well past the minimum starting age for a fighter and she clearly can wear her armor effectively enough to demonstrate adequate strength and training, so she must be able to do the job. So his answering video contains none of his initial surprise.]
That's the sort of attitude I most like to hear. I'd be happy to have you along.
no subject
[She's also looking forward to showing off her mettle to a fellow warrior. As motivated as she is to help those in need, she also knows that she's a representative of Catarina in this place - mustn't make the knighthood look bad!]
I've no experience driving anything more complex than a carriage, I'm afraid, but I'm a skilled warrior. I will defend these vehicles to the best of my ability.
no subject
[Roy at least TRIES not to be judgmental of the worlds of others.]
no subject
[It's clear from the tone of her voice and the expression on her face - she's impressed. Even if she isn't entirely certain what an airship would even look like, the concept is simple enough to understand, and hardly any more fantastic than half the things she's seen since arriving here.
Her awe doesn't last long, however, as she quickly takes note of Roy's apparent frustration with some of the others' perspectives.]
Erm, in any case, their familiarity with such things is far from an inconvenience. They'll doubtlessly be useful in this endeavor.
Speaking of which, did you have a time you intended to leave?
no subject
[He's guessing she understands, if she's seen enough of it.]
no subject
[Surprise, she loves flowers. Even if she hasn't really been participating in the festivals all that much.]
I agree that sooner is better, though. If these people are in need, we mustn't keep them waiting.
no subject
[But Roy shrugs, aware that in some ways he's quite conservative.]
I'd rather be doing some exploration or assistance or something similar myself.
video
I can probably do something useful.

( he's blinking trying to figure out if the automated vehicles here are super complicated or if... this man in armour with a sword is from an appreciable period in time where this is indicating his own familiarity with technology levels.
the best way's asking, right? )

To be on topic, how long are you planning to run this rescue effort? I'm capable of driving, but I'm utterly useless when it comes to fighting. Aside from staying out of the way of the capable fighters and keeping on task. Still, if more drivers is what you still need at the end of the day, I can talk with my fiance and see if he objects to me helping out while things are still in flux settling in here.
( tbh he's wondering if gnomish isn't indicating a country and its people. what a fascinating sounding place! )
