[ When the camera feed starts to roll, Rose already has everything staged. She had managed to scrape up together enough money for a DJ booth and is sitting behind it. Music flows out of the speakers, bass thrumming through the floor. And probably disturbing the neighbors! How can someone really upset about the noise though when she’s grinning so big?

With the turn of her wrist, she dials back the sound and pulls her headphones down but leaves her fashionable shutter shades on. ] Hey, Quarantine. In light of this month’s festivities, I have a burning question for everyone.

[ Well. Mostly, everyone. There’s a reason that this thing is filtered away from minors. The music suddenly shifts to the ever classic Bump N’ Grind by R. Kelly. Her head sways to the opening beat, smile still going strong. It’s low enough to be heard in the background but that she can still speak over it clearly. ]

Music says a lot about a person, I think. So, knowing that... What’s your favorite love makin’ song? What’s the one you use to set the mood or enjoy getting freaky to?

[ A small pause as she considers. ]

Hard Mode: No Marvin Gaye. Don't get me wrong! I love Marvin much as the next woman. He’s timeless, but- Also a little overdone. So, lay it on me gentlemen and lllllladies [ winkwonk ] since I wanna’ hear what song gets you going.

Like I said, depends on the mood. But you did say lovemaking, so that implies a specific kind of mood.

[ He chuckles a bit. ] It's a nice song, though in this particular context, I think I'm more of a Fields of Gold kinda guy. Or Fragile, Shape of my heart... that kind of tune.

I guess that's fair. Love making is a bit different from a just going to the bone zone. Or, I mean, I hope it would be different.

[ At the mention of Shape of My Heart, a push of a button and slide of something has R. Kelly fade away and transition into that very song. ]

It is pretty nice, yeah.

Well— to each their own, I guess. I do like it when it's different, but that's just me.

[ He smiles a hint when the song starts playing in the background. ]

I really love that song. And his voice. [ He tips his head a little at her. ] What about you? What are your top lovemaking music picks?

[ Rose will remember that. For... reasons. ]

Yeah, Gordon's got some good pipes. As for me, uh... I'm probably a Chromeo kind of gal. Something a little synth but still with some smooth lyrics.

[ As she says this, there's another switch of music to Don't Turn The Lights On. ]

Plus, David Macklovitch is a total babe.

[ Jim hums as the song starts playing. It takes him a bit longer but he does recognize the tune, even if it's not his usual choice of music. ]

That's not too bad, either. Sets up a nice mood. [ He chuckles. ] Yeah, I guess he is kinda cute.

I know, right? I like their grooves for working out to as well, which- I mean, I guess depending on how hard you go is kind of similar.

[ While Rose tends to be more top forties trash, she's got quite a wide knowledge of many music genres. Also, she tends to enjoy bands more when the singers are attractive. ]

So, he's your kind of dude too. Duly noted.

[ Jim snorts and chuckles a little at that. ] Yeah, I was gonna say it kind of is a workout of sorts, when you think about it.

[ What, you don't think he's this fit from just jogging and hitting the gym, right? There was also a lot of sex involved, especially in his Academy years. Just saying. ]

Between you and me? I'm not very picky. I don't have a... type, as people call it. There's a big galaxy out there, and a lot of very different people to get to know. [ Intimately. ] It'd be such a waste and a shame to narrow down my options and limit myself, don't you think?

[ It seems as good a way as any to get some exercise in. Rose isn't actually sure what the benefits really are. Good, she's heard, but- That's all. ]

I like the way you think, dude. Life's too short and there's too many hotties out there to not go for it more, I think.

[ She doesn't, actually, but it's easy to put forth a front. ]

Exactly. Great taste though, so no judgment here. I mean, I was gonna say it's kinda weird he's been dead for centuries at my point in time, but I'm into Steve McQueen, so I really can't talk.

[ Maybe someday. This seems like the city of opportuntiy so far, so! Who knows what'll happen? ]

Steve McQueen! Cool dude to the extreme. I only saw his stuff after he had passed, but... Man, what a legend.

[ Jim's always been the kind to find opportunities no matter where he is anyway. Call him resourceful, hopeful or insanely optimistic. He's a solid mix of all those things. ]

Thank you. [ He grins a little, sitting back. ] This is a nice change. Most people don't even know who he is, where I'm from.

[ Rose likes all of those things, really, so he's a cool dude in her book thus far. ]

What! How can you not know about Steve McQueen? Like, even in the future I figured he'd still be immortalized somehow. That's wild.

Kind of makes me wonder what'll be super cool still centuries from now. Not that I'll be alive to see it or anything, but. Y'know.

[ Just a normal every day human here, yesiree. ]

Hey, we're three hundred years ahead!! Plus, that whole... celebrity status thing doesn't really exist anymore. It's different. We don't have famous people in the sense that you know.

[ Artists, like actors or musicians, don't really get the same focus or treatment in his time. Then again there's virtually no gap between social classes. As a matter of fact, there are no social classes. It seems like a difficult thing for most people here to wrap their heads around. ]

Like in your time, what's cool depends on what you're into. I find old movies and music cool, like chess and books, but not everyone agrees with me.

Wait, you don't? What do you do for daytime TV then? Who's lives of the rich and famous are there to follow for entertainment?

[ It is a very difficult thing for Rose to wrap her head around. She loves her daytime reality TV shows. ]

Well, those people are objectively wrong. Clearly.

[ She's joking, but- Y'know. ]

We don't really have TV. Not the kinds of programs you do. There's no publicity, for instance. We get movies and shows, but they hold a different weight. I really... don't know how to explain. We have access to all that kind of entertainment through home computers, we choose what to watch and when. It's easier to get access to more recent stuff, obviously. Classical things take more dedication, it's usually for collectors.

[ Ask Jim about reality TV shows, I dare you. ]

I happen to think so too, but you know. Can't argue taste, I guess.

[ She is shook. SHOOK, I TELL YOU. ]

Huh. That's... I mean, I guess that's kind of true in my time too? Some stuff is really hard to come by, like old films and media. We're getting there with computers but Google Home is about as fancy as my world's got on that front.

Yeah. That's normal for any generation, I'd say. Anyway, a lot of media got lost during the last war we had. Some digital copies survived, but most of the physical media was gone. Books, vinyls, those old movie tapes and disks, uh... DVDs or something, I think?

[ Yep, DVDs are old as fuck for him. ]

I own a few VHS tapes back home. Vinyls and cassettes, too. And books, of course. It was a miracle that I managed to get my hands on them.

There was a war?

[ She can't stop herself from asking. While she knows that isn't the point of the conversation, it doesn't bode well for Rose. In her world, there's... Well, she's not sure she'd call them wars. Not really. More like pissing contests between the countries for resources and other trivial things.

The real threat looming was something most people didn't even know existed. ]

Yes. A long time ago, though— about 250 years ago. It was pretty brutal, though, and most of the physical records were gone by the time it was over. Some digital records were lost, too. We have some things that are still being recovered from all sorts of places, so access to anything before then, like classical literature, cinema or music, isn't always easy.

[ Jim's just a huge nerd. And yes, also a collector. Even Bones likes making fun of his antiques, and the good doctor is as old-fashioned as they come in his time. ]

[ It doesn't sound so different, Rose thinks, from the wars she learned about. Humanity's wars, no her kind's. Her kind fought for power over one another constantly but that was practically ingrained into their DNA.

It wasn't really war when both sides initiated, when both sides were in consensus that fighting is just what they were born and bred to do. ]

Right, yeah, I can only imagine. Must cost you a pretty penny, huh?

[ Power has been the reason for a number of wars and disputes on his version of Earth, and still is in several places across the galaxy. The last war was just... different. It was a war amongst humans, though not quite. The Augments liked setting themselves apart as a superior race too, and Jim knows for a fact they wouldn't call themselves human entirely.

It was a miracle that their planet wasn't entirely decimated. Even more of a miracle that they managed to raise it from the ground up again, turning to natural resources, and in a post-apocalyptic reality managed to find a new, better and more peaceful way of life. ]

Not... really. We don't have money where I'm from. I mean, we do have Federation credits that can give us access to a number of different things, but it's not strictly money. Doesn't hold the same weight. There are no rich people on Earth, nor poor people. Social classes don't even exist anymore. I know this is weird for most people to wrap their heads around, but believe me, it's the truth.

[ It'd give her hope, honestly, if she knew what was to come for her own worlds. ]

Huh. Not sure it'd ever work where I'm from, but- Sounds neat. It'd be kind of cool to not have to worry about being on a different level than most people.

Not that I ever really minded it much to begin with, I guess.

For what it's worth, centuries ago people would have said the same thing. Capitalism was the driving force in my planet for centuries, if not millennia. I'm sure that for most everyone, a future without it seemed completely unrealistic, impossible to achieve. But we did get there, so...

You never know. [ He smiles. ] Same thing could happen in your world. It'd take time, sure, but still.
