[Sam's in what looks somewhat like a more high-tech tattoo parlor - one of the body modification studios - and he looks more worried than panicked as he glances at the phone, his attention clearly at something (or someone) on the floor. In the background there's definite arguing going on:]

Sir please, you shouldn’t be [Only the first speaker was visible, a young woman with a variety of piercings and tattoos, likely the attendant given the scrubs she was wearing, visibly alarmed as she was trying to convince the person on the floor to stay there.]

I’ll be fine, christ you nag worse than my mother ever did- [Obviously this wasn’t working as well as she hoped, face paling slightly as there was an uncomfortable-sounding crunch and breathless cursing that followed the irritated reply.]

Hey, so if any of you teleporters are paying attention, I could use a little help here. And heads up to the hospital, you're gonna have a pain in the ass coming in real soon. [Sam glances away from the camera for a moment and pinches the bridge of his nose as he adds an aside] Stephen, you need to go to the fucking hospital, legs don't bend like that.

Please, someone get here and shut him up. Doesn't look like anything life-threatening, but he's got broken legs and god knows what else. And he's in the shittiest mood I've ever seen him in, and that's saying a lot.

It'd be better if I actually had gotten off light instead of Mephisto deciding to play with his food.

[He'd love to be able to claim he'd escaped in some great daring trick or clever bit of spellwork, but the fact of the matter was he was trapped. Well and properly fucked if he couldn't figure a way out of his unfortunate predicament.]

[ With the door closing on Sam's heels (Loki passes him a bag of grapes to chow down on in the meantime, he's thoughtful like that) the godling perches on the edge of Stephen's bed and leans back on a hand. ]

What exactly did you do to prod him with such a hot poker as this, Stephen?

[ Nodding to those broken shins. ]

He's turned Vegas into his own personal Hell on Earth and I tried to kick him and his ilk out.

[Saying nothing about his trying to help causing this problem to come about though, he's too sober for that shit.]

Well, that was silly. Noble, but.

[ Trailing off, Loki sighs. Squints at Stephen. ]

Why did he have a fixation on Las Vegas? That's one of Hela's favourite hotspots, he usually avoids her turf.

Well it was destroyed. In between said destruction and my returning it to proper form it had been in Hell and he'd been making some... alterations. Apparently those changes came back with it.

[Try to help and this is what happens. A great capper to a really fucked year.]

Ah. So you resurrected an entire dead city?

[ Chewing a lip. ]

Adding casual necromancy to your list of daily tasks, were we? In between shaving and dying your hair?

[ It's a bad dye job, okay. ]

Whatever faults they might have, an entire city's worth of people didn't deserve to be wiped off the goddamn map.

[And give him a moment to squint at Loki, trying to decide if he should be annoyed or just write it off as Loki being Loki.

And he knows it's a kinda bad dye job, he did it his damn self.

In the end the anger's a bit harder to hold onto at the moment so he just huffs a sigh.]

[Clearly that went so very well right?]

If they died, Stephen, then you ought not to have meddled in Mephisto's business by taking away what was sent straight to him, rightfully or not. Never mind that now, though. Your good intentions have been noted.

[ He waves off the could-be scolding as a nurse enters to refill the IV. Loki keeps his attention on the sorcerer. ]

What did he do with you? Overall.

What can I say, I'm really good at meddling.

[He's made a damn career out of it after all.]

So far he's just had the shit beaten out of me. I'm sure he's got some big dramatic horrific plans for when he actually goes for my soul, he's hinted as much in an extremely vague and menacing manner.

[ IV refilled and nurse exiting, Loki reaches out to place his hand on the back of Stephen's wrist. ]

I've tricked Mephisto out of conquering souls before, rest assured I won't let him have yours. Not while you're on this moon, anyway.

[Which as they both know, isn't as sure as he'd like to be in that situation. Mephisto was a tricky bastard after all.

The reassurance earned a faint wry sort of grin, brows lifting.]

How am I supposed to misplace my irritation at future Loki on you when you're being so nice about things? You're spoiling all my tantrum material.

[He was well aware that he was just as much at fault as future Loki, and that anything he does aim at this Loki was absolutely irrational and so completely counted as a temper tantrum.]

Oh, no, what did he do? Ah, wait -!

[ Reaching into his coat (with a furtive look at the door behind which Sam lurks) he retrieves Stephen's Mai Tai and an uncapped beer for himself. There, much better. ]

Okay, go on. As long as future-me hasn't turned evil again.

[Clearly it's happy hour, Stephen will take that, thank you Loki. Pausing to take a drink before explaining anything.]

Not evil, no. He was trying to help, but between his tactics and my stubborn pride, things spiraled far more out of control than they would have if we'd actually communicated like adults.

[But who does a stupid thing like that? Sounds fake!]

Ah, sorry.

[ He looks it, too. Head down, a bit miserable to hear he isn't doing any better than he himself. ]

I had high hopes for that one.

Like I said, it wasn't all his fault. And he wouldn't be the first of us to make some poor choices in trying to do good, I'd be a hypocrite to claim otherwise.

[Given he was currently dealing with the fallout of his own poor choices and all. Don't look so sad Loki!]

He did manage to keep Sentry from punching my face in though, which was definitely appreciated.

You pissed off Sentry as well as Mephisto? Your week has been colourful, Stephen.

[ Loki is glad to have him back. ]

And to think it was just the cap of an eventful year.

[Stephen's glad to be back if he's honest. A small break, and the odd little life he'd somehow managed to find complete with friends.

It's definitely nice to be back, and you make a good member of the welcome back wagon.

[ He tries not to think of himself as having a group of friends on the moon. People come and go with such frequency that only Tony and Billy have been thought of as permanent fixtures, with the loss of one ironically leading to the placement of another. But there are people he considers "his", for as long as he has them in his orbit, and Stephen ranks.

Loki hums and sips his beer, trying not to look too pleased. ]
