( video & action; un: kirk ) forward dated to April 1st
[ The camera catches a glimpse of Jim's face in his Perimeter Guard uniform, but only for the flicker of a second before there's a bump of some sort and the device is knocked down. Jim's surprised expression is the last thing to show before the only view for a few seconds is the ceiling. His voice can be heard from off camera. ]
John! Bad boy, bad.
[ There's a snout next, sniffing at the screen, then a tongue... then finally Jim reaches his phone and picks it up from the ground. He's grinning a little and shaking his head as he props it up on the table again and pulls away, dragging his new friend along with him so he's kept away from his device. ]
Sorry. That was... anyway. Captain James Kirk here, and this is John, the latest member of the aerial unit. [ He just wandered in one day and now Jim's keeping him, shut up. ] So— due to the latest rains and the most recent flooding near the river, a lot of people have found themselves temporarily displaced. I'm one of those people, but luckily me and my buddy here have a place to crash at the Perimeter Guard. We have plenty of beds and mattresses available here, for what it's worth, so anyone who finds themselves momentarily homeless, you'll be more than welcome here.
There should be other places we could use to offer people some shelter. The community centers come to mind, for instance. Gathering a few supplies would help though, so anyone willing to help and donate a few things, that would be great.
Additionally, I'll be making rounds on the shuttle, so anyone who needs a hand or absolutely must get somewhere out of bounds due to the flood, let me know.
And that's it! [ He smiles a little, nodding. ] Remember to keep safe. And if you don't need to be anywhere near it, stay away from the river. At least until the rain lets up and we manage to figure out where all this water's coming from.
(( ooc: this post is open to action for the following options: around the perimeter guard barracks, getting some rest, working, or helping other misplaced people out; near the river, aiding anyone in trouble and/or possibly fighting any of the monsters; a little all over the place on his shuttle, ready to jump in and get anyone out of a tough spot. ))

[Where's the fun in letting Tony do all the flying around here?]

[ People can fly through all sorts of means, after all. ]
I'll take whatever help I can get. Honestly I don't think anyone else is stranded anymore, but people still have important possessions or things they need to get from their homes. We can help with that.
Though right now I'm more focused on clearing the debris out of the water. It's washing everything down towards the Abandoned City, and taking everything in its path.

[She might as well do this right and proper. There's a low chuckle at the mention of clearing debris.]
Well ah can lift and throw trucks, so... [She could probably help. Her voice turns more serious.] There any dams that needs fortifyin' too? Heavy debris flows and high water volumes tend to do a number on levees and the like.
no subject
[ He won't call it a superpower or anything because for all he knows she's from another species who can just fly normally and it's part of her basic skills as much as walking or running. ]
That'll sure come in handy, yeah. Sadly the river has done a lot of damage by now. At this point the best we can do is clear the debris and wait for the water levels to go down before rebuilding the dams, and repairing the walls and whatever else might have been damaged by the water. We've also been putting up some barriers along the river, so hopefully that'll keep people away from the more dangerous areas.
I'll take any other suggestions though, if you have them.

[Banter aside, Rogue focuses on his assessment of the current situation, paying key attention to the current damages and key areas. She'll see for herself from the air, but a good brief made a difference in missions.]
Have the waters crested or do we expect the waters to rise further? [There's a pause.] What about any displaced animals we got to worry 'bout? Predators are one thing, but someone wades into a mat of floatin' fire ants thinkin' they're just debris is gonna have a terrible experience.

[ He's curious, yes, but he of all people can understand the importance of trusting someone before sharing more personal things. There's stuff he wouldn't share with someone he's just met either, maybe not even with someone he's known a while, someone he'd call a friend. If they get to a point where Rogue will feel more comfortable sharing details about her abilities then great, if not... well, no harm done. ]
It's been flowing steadily for the past couple of days now, the water keeping about the same level and speed. Without knowing the cause for the flood, there's no way to predict if it'll slow down or rise even higher, but I guess for the moment no change is better than nothing. It could cause some serious damage to other areas of the city if it gets more intense.
Haven't really run into any fire ants at the moment— the shelters and other authorities are going around taking in stray animals, but so far as dangerous animals go, the things crawling out of the river are the only thing we have to worry about for now. Which is plenty to handle as it is, if you ask me.

Now's not the time to go down that rabbit hole however, and she returns her focus to the task at hand, listening to Kirk. He reminds her a bit of Steve, but not quite.]
Are there people lookin' to pinpoint a source yet? Be it science types or scouts? Regardless, we should have a plan for if it gets worse.
[There's a rough laugh, but she sounds relieved.] Ah much prefer the beasties ah can punch than a swarm of tiny nasties.
no subject
Science types and magic types both. I know Gramarye's looking into the possibility of magic being the cause for it. I'd have dismissed that hypothesis in the past, but at this point I know that's a very real possibility.
I'm not an expert on either, though. The best I can do is help keep the people safe, and clear out debris. And punch some big beasties, I guess. [ He quirks a small smile at that. ]
no subject
So you're from a universe with science, but no magic ah take it?
[It's only a bit of teasing before she returns to the more serious topic at hand, even if she doesn't exactly sound too serious.]
Ah'll keep eyes from the sky and let you know if any problem areas ah can't handle pop up. Ah imagine you'll be able to run comms for additional support? [Because she's considering logistics.] Or did you want to team up on the fisticuffs?
no subject
[ Jim smiles and raises an eyebrow at her at that. He comes from a deeply scientific world, that much is obvious. Which isn't to say magic is entirely nonexistent there, of course —the universe is a very big place, and Jim only knows an infinitely small corner of it— but it's definitely not something he's faced on a regular basis (or at all) before ending up here. ]
I've got a feeling you can handle fisticuffs better than me. [ He just ends up getting beaten up a lot, lbr. ] I have a closed comm network for the aerial unit, though. I've been making use of it for this, too. You only have to wear a small earpiece, so if you want to just come by and I'll get you one.
no subject
[Her voice clearly indicates that she's teasing. It's not like she has any skill with magic regardless of the fact that it exists here and in her universe.]
Perhaps. Ah've long since learned not to judge a book by its cover. [To be fair, she endures her fair share of beatings. Just because she's invulnerable to most attacks doesn't mean she doesn't feel the hits. She perks up at the mention of a closed comm network.] Sounds perfect. When's a good time for me to drop on by?
no subject
[ It's not trusting appearances so much as trusting his own instincts and observational skills. If she can fly and lift heavier weights than most humans, then he's definitely going to conclude that she can handle a fight a lot better than him. ]
Whenever you want. I'm staying at the Perimeter Guard while my place is out of bounds, so whatever time you choose to come by, you'll no doubt find me around.
no subject
[So points to him for being observant, a very key skill to hone for anyone that's going to be in any sort of combat situation, and she definitely prefers for her teammates to have a good eye and spatial awareness regardless of their natural abilities.]
Ah'll swing by sooner rather than later sugah.
no subject
[ Jim smiles at her, tipping his head in a nod. ]
Alright. I'll be around and waiting, then.
no subject
[She's totally serious with that phrase. The feed cuts off shortly after. She'll find him soon enough.]
