[ The camera catches a glimpse of Jim's face in his Perimeter Guard uniform, but only for the flicker of a second before there's a bump of some sort and the device is knocked down. Jim's surprised expression is the last thing to show before the only view for a few seconds is the ceiling. His voice can be heard from off camera. ]
John! Bad boy, bad.
[ There's a snout next, sniffing at the screen, then a tongue... then finally Jim reaches his phone and picks it up from the ground. He's grinning a little and shaking his head as he props it up on the table again and pulls away, dragging his new friend along with him so he's kept away from his device. ]
Sorry. That was... anyway. Captain James Kirk here, and this is John, the latest member of the aerial unit. [ He just wandered in one day and now Jim's keeping him, shut up. ] So— due to the latest rains and the most recent flooding near the river, a lot of people have found themselves temporarily displaced. I'm one of those people, but luckily me and my buddy here have a place to crash at the Perimeter Guard. We have plenty of beds and mattresses available here, for what it's worth, so anyone who finds themselves momentarily homeless, you'll be more than welcome here.
There should be other places we could use to offer people some shelter. The community centers come to mind, for instance. Gathering a few supplies would help though, so anyone willing to help and donate a few things, that would be great.
Additionally, I'll be making rounds on the shuttle, so anyone who needs a hand or absolutely must get somewhere out of bounds due to the flood, let me know.
And that's it! [ He smiles a little, nodding. ] Remember to keep safe. And if you don't need to be anywhere near it, stay away from the river. At least until the rain lets up and we manage to figure out where all this water's coming from.
(( ooc: this post is open to action for the following options: around the perimeter guard barracks, getting some rest, working, or helping other misplaced people out; near the river, aiding anyone in trouble and/or possibly fighting any of the monsters; a little all over the place on his shuttle, ready to jump in and get anyone out of a tough spot. ))

Once the bottom of the net clears the river, he nods and moves in a bit closer. This is where things are going to get tricky.]
Okay. We dressing left or right?
no subject
Jim scans the area briefly. ]
Left. Closer and there's more room there. [ He makes note of Tony's position. ] Ready to go?
no subject
[He hovers close by the net, hands up just in case it tries to start moving in unexpected ways. Hard to judge how the weight will shift once they get everything in motion.]
Keep it slow.
no subject
[ Just like before, he starts moving after the countdown. This time he moves to the side instead, the shuttle steady though the pile of debris sways just so. Even minor movements make some smaller parts shift, but at least the net doesn't break or lose strength despite the tension.
Jim will have to put some trust on Tony for this. He's the one with a better perspective, after all, and if anything does go wrong, he has a much better chance to do some damage control than Jim does right now. ]
no subject
It does mean that he catches a small piece of driftwood sliding out the bottom of the net, right before it tries to catch on a rock and upend the delicate balance they've got going.]
Hold on.
[It's a little sharp, but Tony doesn't want to move to try to fix it until the net is stopped.]
no subject
Everything alright down there? Should I pull back again?
no subject
[He gives it another moment, then reaches down to try to resettle everything. It nearly makes another piece fall out as well, but Tony just barely manages to catch it in time.
Tony sighs as he climbs to his feet, then taps the net to make sure nothing is going to move.]
Right, okay.
no subject
Alright then, slowly... [ And he resumes the same course as before, gently bringing the shuttle and the debris closer to the shore. ]
no subject
You've got a better view than me, does this look far enough?
no subject
Looks fine to me. If the ground is steady, we can bring it down here.
no subject
Seems sturdy enough. Let her go?
no subject
Okay. Watch out, I'm letting go now.
[ He lowers only two of the arms, so the topmost pieces start falling off and sinking to the mud first. He's trying to empty the net so he can hopefully use it again if it's left in good condition, and he's counting on Tony to release any pieces that get caught in the webbing. ]
no subject
Once most of the pieces are free, he does dart in to loosen any of the smaller bits that are still caught until the net is more or less empty, aside from a few twigs.]
Not bad.
no subject
[ He smiles a little to himself, retracting the net completely, then turning the shuttle around so he can get a better look at the debris. ]
I should find a spot to land, so we can load all this into the shuttle and take it back to the Quarantine.
no subject
[Tony backs up out of the way anyway, just in case he does want to land it.]
Unless you're looking to do something with it all?
no subject
[ With Tony moving out of the way, Jim finds a steadier and drier patch of land, then brings the shuttle down slowly on it. ]
And that too, I guess. We might find some piece or material that could be used for something.
no subject
You want to grab all of it or just the potentially useful bits?
no subject
Just the bigger parts. Anything too small probably won't be of much use anyway, and hopefully it won't cause any trouble even if it makes its way back into the river.
no subject
Show me where you want it all?
no subject
By the corner— here. [ He gestures to an empty spot, where the pile won't get in the way of anything. ] Bring the larger ones in first, if you can.
no subject
[Not that it stops him from turning around to start carrying things in, slightly more careful with the more unwieldy bits. The armor's good for this kind of thing, even if that wasn't exactly the one of the intended features.
When most of it is settled in the shuttle, Tony straightens a little to glance over Jim's way.]
Anything else while I'm here?
no subject
[ He shoots a grin at Tony, as he piles up the smaller bits so they don't get in the way. Once the pile is largely inside the shuttle, he gets another net and stretches it over the debris, securing it to the wall so it won't just tumble around inside the shuttle. ]
No, I— think that's about it. Thanks, Tony. If you'll be around, I'll get in touch in case I need a hand with anything else. Sound good?
no subject
[He throws Jim a quick salute, touching his fingers to his forehead.]
Good flying.
