Pierce gave him praise, encouragement, and was the father he'd wanted, feeding the same desires that Snoke had, without the cruelty. And, when Ren gauged the other man's intent through the Force, he found nothing untoward there.

Besides, Ren's always been weak to scraps of kindness. And when he'd told Rey that her parents were her greatest weakness, that she'd look for them everywhere, in others, he was talking about himself just as much as he was talking about her.
