What are the birthday traditions on your home planets?

[ jyn hasn't celebrated a birthday in something like... fifteen years so to say she's out of practice would be a gross understatement. she tells herself this is cultural anthropology, her mother would be proud. TIME TO LEARN, time to attempt to live like a normal human being... ]

It's supposed to. The entire book is kind of about things being insane and off kilter.

no. i don't know the exact day that i was born on, just the season.

i keep meaning to choose a day though! not for the presents or anything, just so i can tell people that i'm grateful for the day that i was born so i could meet them.

Candles? The fire might be because you need so many candles. Five candles isn't really a fire.

Traditionally you get a birthday cake with candles on the top. When you blow out the candles, you make a wish.

But I always figured you can make a wish without a cake or candles. As long as you don't tell anyone about it or it won't come true.

I don't know who made up all these rules.

I'm not going to believe cake is special simply because it is for a birthday.

We went to a planet when I was small where they didn't have numbers, so they didn't have birthdays and they didn't age, they simply had a beginning, a middle, and an end.

Sure.

Maybe it would ruin the magic of it. If you tell someone what you wished for, they'll know to get it for you. No surprise there.

If you don't tell anyone and someone still gives you your wish, you'd believe in the power of your wish a lot more.
