Video; Sleep Deprivation

[ragnarsson]

[The video shows Ivar looking a little rumpled, the look of someone who has been trying to sleep and can't. He's cleaning out grime from under his fingernails with one of his knives as he speaks and it occasionally flashes into view.

Oddly enough, he's smiling, his eyes just a little too bright. It's not a happy smile. When Ivar gets angry, sometimes, he smiles in a way that says he's going to rip your throat out with his teeth if you get too close. His tone sounds oddly cheerful as he speaks.]

To whoever is making that horrible racket that's keeping me awake, you have two options. Stop it. [Then his voice goes dark and furious.] Or I'll stop it. Trust me when I say my way will be a lot more unpleasant. [He never stops smiling even as he turns off the video.]

Sounds like screaming. I don't know if it's music, someone being tortured, or sex, but I ceased caring about the source half an hour ago. If it doesn't stop in the next five minutes, someone is going to end up dead.

[He has a lot of practice killing people in their sleep. They'll never see it coming.]

Well, now you might have a problem. What if they're already dead? You going to resurrect them again just to kill them?

[ragnarsson]

At this rate, I'm following them straight to Hel and coming back if that's what it takes to stop this racket.

[He's already unstable as it is. Not getting sleep is only going to exacerbate the problem.]

[idolpire]

[He's met crazy before. Hell, he's dated it.]

Likely wouldn't stop it. Just might make you not care so much about it. S'what you get for living in a commune, you bloody hippy.

[ragnarsson]

If I wanted to sleep alone, I would. But having lived with three brothers most of my life, I prefer this.

[There's a pause.]

What's a hippy?

[Better question. Should he be insulted?]

Right... You'd think you'd be used to rackets, then.

[Save him from siblings. It was a small blessing, he supposed, that he'd been an only child.

The question has a snort of a laugh coming from him.]

What, they don't have hippies where you come from? Pity.

[ragnarsson]

Rackets of a different sort. Usually sex. There was no such thing as privacy in Viking homes, even large ones.] And generally they learned to be quiet if I threw an axe at their heads.

[Yes, he was a psychopathic brat. It made for a terrible combination.]

They don't have a lot of things where I come from. I seem to be from a time far behind everyone else here.

[idolpire]

[Good thing he hadn't been brought up in a Viking home. His human English sensibilities would have been scandalized, and his vampire ones preferred to be alone. Mostly.]

Right then. So sex noise is okay, but having fun elsewise isn't. I think you're just going to have to learn to live with it, mate. Or get your own place.

[ragnarsson]

Wait a minute. Is it you producing this horrible noise?

[He's definitely considering the merits of tracking Spike down and shoving an axe through his skull if he is.]

[idolpire]

Dunno. Where abouts are you?

[Could be. Could be not. Spike had been poking around in the housing he'd been shoved into, but he had plans to settle elsewhere. Eventually.]

[ragnarsson]

Floor five.

[It'd be best to just lie even if it is him making the noise. It's not the best idea to antagonize a sleep-deprived unstable Viking warrior.]

[idolpire]

Nope. Not me. Down on two. But if it was, I wouldn't be stopping just because you're trying to get your beauty sleep. S'what you get for living communal.

[ragnarsson]

I suppose it could be worse. At home, we have to share space with animals in the winter. You ever tried sleeping with a herd of goats and a few pigs? It's terrible.

Better than sleeping in the sewers.

[ragnarsson]

What's a sewer?

[They don't have the system in Viking times.]

[idolpire]

What's a... oh. Right.

A long series of tunnels that run under most cities that's full of garbage, dirt, and bodily fluids. S'nasty.

[ragnarsson]

That can't possibly be sanitary.

[Seriously, they manage to get along just fine without it. Then again, Vikings are a lot more clean than most people in the Middle Ages in general. They actually bathed on a regular basis.]

[idolpire]

It's not. That's why it's the bloody sewers.

[Honestly, Ivar. Keep up.]

[ragnarsson]

And you were sleeping in such a terrible place why?

[idolpire]

Out of the sun, isn't it...

[ragnarsson]

Why would you need to be out of the sun?

[He's not yet familiar as to what makes up a vampire's powers and weaknesses.]

[idolpire]

... Right. Not familiar with vampires, are you. Well, let's just say that I like myself as I am, not burned into a pile of dust.

[ragnarsson]

Just sunlight can do that?

[He doesn't sound all that skeptical, just curious. Anyone who is familiar with Norse tales will soon come to realize how odd most of them tend to be.]

We're creatures of the dark, vampires. Some demons aren't meant to walk in the light. We'd be one of them.
