I noticed other new arrivals asking after their friends. While I could do that, my friends are generally difficult to miss. The Krogan ones especially.
The welcoming party and I had a bit of a go and that landed me nowhere. Sooo I figure maybe someone can help a poor guy out and show him where he can crash? Maybe even find something to eat that won't kill him?
That last one might be a little much to ask for.

[He's at least got enough tact not to mention that they are also usually profoundly ugly creatures.]

[Yes, thank you for that. No sense in alienating oneself right away.]
Although I suppose I did fight against things that are kind of god-like. In a roundabout way.
no subject
Sounds like it was a mighty battle. I'm assuming you won?
no subject
[Now he's just being a little difficult. For the fun of it.]
I don't know if we won, but something big happened. It was enough to crash our ship.

[But there's a joking tone in his voice that offsets the words.]
At least you survived. That's always important.
no subject
[And Garrus picks up on it. Hence teasing right back.]
And I am very glad for it, let me tell you. You won't hear any complaints from me.

[Seriously, his father had been kind of mean to give him "The Boneless" as a nickname for a son that couldn't walk. Granted, at the time, he'd been despairing of Ivar ever having a normal life, but when Ragnar Lothbrok named someone, it tended to stick.]
Death isn't so bad, but living is always better.

[Oh how little Garrus knows. Then again, if Ivar had been born in Garrus' universe, something might have been able to have been done about those legs. Or at least he'd have an easier time moving around.]
Living is always harder.
no subject
[It's not terrible, but it is rather mean.]
Still better than being dead.
no subject
Not that there's anything wrong with it, mind you.
[Awkward backpedaling? Maybe just a bit. Garrus isn't really sure how to say "hey walking isn't everything" and blend in "but if you wanted to walk, it's probably possible here."]
Again, no arguments there.
no subject
I don't need to be fixed because there's nothing wrong with me!
[The words are snapped out in an angry, biting tone.]
no subject
I didn't think of it like that. It's just if you wanted to walk, I'm sure there's someone here that could arrange something.
But you're fine the way you are too.
[Sorry, sorry.]
no subject
Sure, just because I'm a cripple must mean that I should walk like everyone else. It's the only way I'd ever be equal to them, right?
[Way to twist things around, Ivar.]

There's a guy I know that has brittle bone disease. He can't really walk without help and just bumping him could break his bones. Doesn't stop him at all since he flies ships. Best damn pilot I know and he has nothing by my respect.

[Some of the fierceness leaves his voice when he speaks next. Garrus' words have struck a chord.]
That's what one of the doctors here said that I have. It's the reason I can't walk. My leg bones are too weak. But it didn't stop me from becoming a warrior.
no subject
Personally, I have a lot of respect for people who don't let life shove them around.
no subject
[Bitter, angry teen much? Just a little bit.]
no subject
I'm starting to get that impression.

It's a good thing to remember.
[At least when dealing with Ivar. All he really had was his pride and anger to help sustain him. It made for a prickly personality that many found hard to get along with.]
