So, uh, my name is Billy Kaplan.

[And from the looks of it, he's sprawled out on his bed in the communal housing, camera held above him steadily. He makes a face.]

I have no idea what to say about myself. I was a student back home and I know a little magic. [He's a little tentative about that one, but-- he's not sure there's a point in keeping it secret here either.] But marketable skills? I'm not so sure about that one. I guess I need to figure something out though.

[Considering he's going to be here for a while...]

I guess I'm making this to ask what all of you plan to do here? If you have any definite plans at all, I mean.

You're a magician?

[Have a cheery victorian girl, who is just barely starting to figure out how to focus her camera.]

What sort of magic do you do?

[ Yuri looks sharp and judgemental, his eyes narrowed and one lip curling back just slightly, as if torn between a barking laugh and a sneer. ]

Stand on a street corner and pull cards out of your ass. I'm sure someone will pay to see it. [ He flicks his wrist not holding his phone, as if discarding the other's concerns about needing something to do, and huffing. ]

The fact of the matter is, we're stuck here for the foreseeable future. Until they can finagle their portal to send us back to the right reality, we might as well make things work here.

[Granted, Bucky doesn't exactly trust the people in charge, but he can keep that to himself for the moment. They probably monitor this network, or so his more paranoid side is telling him.]

[The video turns on and then almost as quickly turns off. Second time he gets it a little better, though it looks as if Ivar doesn't quite understand the angle of how to work the camera just yet.]

I don't know how long I'm staying, but I'm needed back home. I've got battles to win and another king to kill.

[He says this very casually as if every sixteen year old should be fighting in a war and figuring out regicide on a daily basis.]

I talked to the welcoming committee orientation people when I got here and they set me up at the gym, helping people train and stay in good shape. For sports but also monster-fighting and assorted adventuring. And I'm on-call for tech stuff for the hospital if they end up need someone for biochemist stuff.

[ Feels a bit weird and borderline boastful just answering that question without asking one of his own, though, especially when this kid said he feels like he doesn't have anything to offer. Everyone has something to offer - maybe he just needs a little encouragement. ]

What were you studying back home? And what kind of magic are we talking about? Rabbit out of a hat magic or... real magic?

Just one. But I plan on seeing another dead before I'm through.

[Well, he's a Viking, so surely that's worth as many coolness points as a knight.]

It's not common even where I'm from. But he deserved to die for what he did to my family.

We'll see about that. Until then, it's a day at a time.

I'm going to make things work. I was recruited into the Perimeter Guard.

Definitely a good idea. Better safe than sorry. It's also a good way to de-stress, I mean, even if you never find yourself in a self-defense situation. We've got sports facilities. Nothing too fancy, but there's options.

[ Curtis has been trying to make a good impression since he arrived and keep his texting relatively formal, but when Billy describes the extent of his abilities..... well. ]

You can teleport???? And create stuff out of thin air???? OMG.

[Her eyes light up with enthusiasm at the sight of it.]

Oh, that seems very useful. I don't know about the entertainment value, but... in my world magician simply means 'one who uses magic'. I'm one as well, although... my only talent is speaking to the dead. I believe I'm to understand most worlds dislike such magic.

[ He is an absolute god damn ball of sunshine and rainbows, thanks for noticing.

Yuri doesn't even look remotely perturbed or apologetic over the arched brow. If anything, he looks a little impatient. He huffs out a breath, rolling his eyes.
]

The hell do you know about public decency around here? Try a red light district. Get creative.

[ He pauses, leaning forward a bit and squinting critically at the other. ]

What other kind of magic is there?

Not that I'm much of an expert, but from what I understand a little magic can take you pretty far.

😂 You're clearly a lot braver than I was at your age. If I'd had to practice CPR on a cute guy instead of a creepy plastic dummy? In front of everybody? I probably would have fainted. Or lied about having mono. Or run out of the room.

[ Curtis is not even gonna pretend he was anything approaching cool in high school - he's not that good of a liar, even over text. ]

Sorry, I don't mean to geek out on you, we just don't exactly have magic where I'm from. Except, maybe we do, but it's really rare and I only found out about it a year ago and it's mostly kind of creepy and not actually useful. How does it work? Like... is it something you're born with, do you go to magic school, do you have to learn spells or drink special potions or anything like that?

One murdered my father. And the other one handed him over to the first king to be killed. They weren't going to be allowed to get away with that.

[Revenge was what had given Ivar's life purpose.]

He'll rest easy in Valhalla once both are taken care of.

Back in my world I could speak to most anyone who died... and I could visit the afterlife as well. I haven't tested my powers as much here, but I can't hear the crow I brought with me from my world, so I assume I can't contact my own world's afterlife. So... I suppose if I'm lucky, I can find out what the afterlife is like here. But I haven't found any corpses yet, and I'd prefer a guard if I'm going to go about visiting the afterlife myself.
