[The video opens on a rather ecstatic looking face, the Devil seemingly pleased beyond all measure as he stands in what appears to be an abandoned club.]

Hello, hello, you lovely duckies, you. Lucifer, here, and I'm thrilled to be able to share the news that through whatever means that I'm not currently questioning, my bar's wound up being sucked through that lovely portal. Or something. Not too sure on the specifics, but again, not questioning. To anyone who noticed a rather tall building appear, that'd be mine. Well, it is now. Papers signed and everything. Ladies and gentlemen... and others, welcome to Lux.

[There was a moment where he paused and turned the camera around, showing the interior of Quarantine's newest posh bar, then the screen was back on him and his too-pleased smile.]

While I'd love to open it as is, since everything including top shelf alcohol seems to have come through with it, I'm a bit short on staff. And by short I mean completely bereft. So, if anyone's interested in bartending, dancing, or finding another occupation that may be needed here, do please contact me. My new quarters will be in the Penthouse -- which reminds me, there's scads of floors here that are free, so I'm leasing space as well to anyone who's of a need. I'm sure there's a deal to be made for anyone interested.

Mm? No. There's all manner of religions in my world. Christianity, Catholicism, and all those varieties of whose Jesus is the real Jesus. Muslims, Buddhists, Khemetics, Witches, so on and so on. With all the tv shows and books coming out, even Norse religions are seeing a bit of a come back. Go Vikings, mm? Though, where I'm from, only Dad and Mum are the real powers behind anything. I just got finished arguing with a Viking over which beginning was real, the big bang or a dead giant and licking cows.

[He rolled his eyes. Do you see what he has to deal with, Alec.]

Of course, that doesn't mean that talking about me means anyone believes in me. I've said I'm the Devil till I'm blue in the face, but no one believes it without absolute proof. And then they generally wet themselves and go mad, so what's the point, mm? Humanity doesn't handle the divine well.

I spoke with someone who was from a place with no religions so I wasn't sure if yours was like that or not. It'd explain why you're here instead of in the dimension you prefer. At least we've been told you don't visit Earth much anymore. [That might not be true considering everyone said that Angels didn't exist until Valentine decided he needed to try to take over the world.]

We have all those religions, but I'm not sure who the - uh - real powers are. I assume your Father exists, but I'm not sure who would be Mother. [By the Angel, he hopes it's not Lilith and if it is, Lucifer isn't fond of her.] We believe all the stories have some truth to them so either could be real.

[Shadowhunters really aren't taught science so he's not going to argue the big bang but there's enough creation myths out there he isn't going to try to figure out which one is right.]

I believe it. You could be delusional but I know that the divine is real and so are the darker aspects of the Shadow World. If you are Lucifer... I don't want to go mad just so you can prove who you are.

Well that's not true at all. I've been living in Lost Angeles for the last six years now. No one seems to remember Mum. She is mentioned in the bible. Asherah, wife of Yanweh... Book of Kings... ringing any bells? I'm starting to see now why she had such a problem with humanity. At least they remember my name, if not that I'm not a bloody goat.

[Honestly. He just had to deal with his Mum having a fit, Alec. Don't you start.]

Lovely. I appreciate the glowing letter of faith. I'm sure there's others here who could attest my claim, but frankly, I don't really care. You believe it or you don't. I'm not going to waste time trying to convince someone otherwise. I've better things to do. Like run my club.

[And he seemed pleased at that, all smiles again before he sipped his drink.]

I've read about her. The Bible was one of the first books I studied, but we have another being connected to the mother role. Not for Lucifer but related to the fallen Angels. I never understood why Mundanes connected you with goats. I read the theories but it always seemed stupid, but their stories rarely have the whole truth in them.

I believe you, but it doesn't fit what I've seen so it's - [Alec shrugs, struggling momentarily for words.] I've seen Hell and all my life I've been told about you and the Angels. I'm not sure if our history is wrong or it's a difference between worlds. [He's not sure which option is better for his state of mind.] We're told that you - he - isn't interested in the Mundane world.

[In his world, that was thanks to Amenadiel. Thanks, brother dear.

Still, he listened, because contrary to popular opinion, he could do that. A small nod, then a shrug.]

It's possible. Different realities breed different... well, everything. As for me, I am interested in the 'mundane world', as you put it. It's more fun. Hell is dreary and full of ash. What idiot wants to spend the rest of eternity there, willingly?

Dreary doesn't begin to cover it. [The words are spoken aloud before he realizes that he'd hinted that he knows more about Hell than he intended.]

Is running the club all you do in the Mundane world?

Have you been? You seem remarkably sane for someone that has. Though, your hell might be different from mine.

[Wouldn't that be a curiosity? Suddenly, this strange young man was now 'interesting'.]

Mm, not all, no. I help the Detective with her murders. And I do my little deals, but no, they're not for souls. More IOUs that I find come in handy later.

[Alec debates how to answer but is lying to the Devil ever a good idea?]

I spent a few days in one of the Hell realms. Mostly it was dust, ash, and demons.

[It looks like he's going to ask a multitude of questions, especially when Lucifer mentions working with the police, but he's sure that asking a Prince of Hell the details of his life isn't a good idea.]

What do you trade instead of souls?

Sounds something similar to mine, though if you saw the ash and demons, you likely weren't locked in your own version. They tend to vary, person to person. That's what leaves its mark, you see. A hell of your own making.

[Oh, do ask, Alec. He loved people taking an interest in him.]

Mm, this and that. Sometimes it's a contact with a person they'd like to get a hold of. A lot of times, it was sex. You'd be surprised what people are willing to give for a night fulfilling their fantasies. Giving the old goat who owned my building the night of his life with three lovely young women was how I got the lease to my building.

A group of us went so that might change how it works? [Even with all his research to make sure that a certain someone didn't decide to visit Magnus and his boyfriend, Alec hadn't found anything definite about how the dimension.] We did have odd visions when we were there.

[Even knowing what beings will do for power or to make their wishes come true, the idea of making a deal with someone who might want your soul seems potentially suicidal.]

Mundanes are weird. [He's been working on not thinking things like that, or at least not saying them aloud, but it's still a struggle.] Even if you can give them their fantasies or what they want most, don't they worry about what you'll want in return.

Not really, no. Most don't seem to even really believe that I am who I say I am. Not entirely. There's a lovely young lady that works with my Detective, and she's convinced I'm a method actor. The few that have a notion of the reality... they still go along with it. Because what they want is always greater than what they feel they may have to give up. I never want souls. They'll go where they'll go based on how they lived regardless of me. But say I did. Say I pulled out a parchment with 'your soul' listed as what I wanted. Most would still say yes. Because a soul isn't a tangible thing, you see. Only the truly religious actually see it for something more than just 'I'll care when I'm dead.' Humans are incredibly short sighted and materialistic.

[He shrugged slightly, sipping his drink again.]

But also a lot of fun.

[Alec knows that Mundane don't really believe in the supernatural. They'll ignore the obvious in favor of the most ludicrous justifications so that they don't have to deal with the idea that their fairy tales and horror stories are true. Even knowing that the 'method actor' idea causes him to smile.]

And you enjoy every crazy theory the Mundanes think up for your powers? [He's guessing but it seems like the kind of thing Lucifer might find entertaining.]

You always think what you want is greater than what you'll give up. [That is spoken with a trace of well-worn sadness that Alec quickly pushes aside.] It makes sense, about souls and their meaning. Even among my kin we don't really think about it anymore. Most of us stopped believing.

I'm sure if I ask about where souls go, you'll distract me or get bored and quit talking to me.

If you don't want souls, what do the Mundanes give you in exchange when you make deals?

Not at all. Souls go to Heaven or Hell -- or Purgatory, for those unfortunate ones. I've no say in where they end up. Dad's the one that makes that final call. I just have the benefit of generally knowing ahead of time. People destined for Hell have a sort of... taint over them. A greasiness that lingers around them, almost tangible, really.

As for what I want? Well, sometimes a bit of fun. Lately, it's been IOUs. Someone owes me a favor, and in dealing with others, I often call them in to help out with another favor. Tit for tat.

[Ignoring certain questions that he knows will make a difficult situation worse, he focuses on a detail that might relate to him.] What about people who have went to Hell? Are they tainted like that?

[There's probably few people that have escaped Hell, but he's curious to see if he would have that mark on him.

He hums thoughtfully at the explanation of the favors, considering the 'deal' Lucifer had mentioned earlier.]

That sounds fair compared to the stories about souls and crossroads. What kind of deals or favors would you consider for some living space in your building?

[Magnus is going to kill him when he finds out he asked that...]

Depends. No one just winds up there accidentally. If they've been and somehow manage to make it back, which, while isn't impossible, is rather rare, they're...

[He paused, taking in a deep breath and remembering Malcolm, the most recent example he could draw from.]

Not generally all there. Torture leaves a mark. If you're just a tourist, if you didn't have your own personal hell, you clearly have a different system going then I.

As for space in the building? Well, that depends. Would you rather come to a monetary agreement, or something more unconventional?

We weren't tortured. Someone tried to start the apocalypse there. We had visions that tempted us, but no personal Hell.

[It could have became one but not because of the reasons Lucifer mentioned.]

I was thinking of a monetary agreement. My family would probably have me committed if I made any other type of deal with the Devil.

... Start the apocalypse in Hell? What the bloody hell, pun intended, would that do? Idiots.

Money will do. Either you or your... whoever's sharing your floor can come up with something fair and we can write up a deal.

He wasn't exactly sane. It was more his base of operations until he destroyed Earth and rebuilt it to his whims. It almost worked. Only a few of us believed Hell existed.

It'll be my family. One of us practices magic... if you would allow that.

[He marveled at just how dumb mortals could be, but, he supposed Alec's world wasn't really his to be concerned about. His Hell was his own, and even now, it wasn't his anymore. Not in a way he wanted.

He waved at the screen, scoffing slightly.]

Oh, I don't care about that. I find it a bit fascinating, really. There's another sorcerer who'll be having a floor of his own as well, so I may come and prod you for questions out of curiosity, but there's no obligation to answer.

The guy trying to take over the world or the ones who didn't believe me when I said Hell was real?

[Magnus is going to kill him for this... while Izzy and Jace argued that they should have a turn at him for being an idiot.]

I can only answer the basics. I can't do magic but I've studied it a bit. My husband's the one with that talent. I don't know if he'll answer. None of us have good relationships with Princes of Hell so it might take awhile for everyone to stop freaking out.

[Which probably makes Alec weird since he does believe and he isn't panicking.]

Both, but mostly the one trying to take over the world. I don't know why anyone would want that kind of responsibility. Terribly taxing.

[At least this one was honest, and seemingly willing to make his own bargain without needing to have his hand held through it. Lucifer respected that.]

Yes, well, show them the contract and point out that nowhere on it am I requiring souls or sacrifices. That might help. And if all of you are of age, which I do hope you are, there's always the benefit of living over a club.

I doubt that he really thought of the logistics of what happens after taking over the world. He wanted to make people pay and to have his queen.

[And that twisted, family drama needs time and a lot of alcohol to explain.]

It might, but they'll still be wary at first. I'll be sure to explain that you're not the same as the Princes from our world. My brother is underage, but the rest of us are legal. They'll be excited about living over a club.

If you don't want sacrifices or souls, how did that legend start?

Yes, well, no one ever seems to. World domination is fine on paper, but the reality is far, far more taxing.

[He was making little notes on a piece of paper, scribbling down little things about who was calling and what for, making little references by Alec's name.]

That's what happens when you try to vilify other religions, mm? All religions used to have sacrifices. For harvest and the gods. When Christianity took over, it was much easier to sweep all the 'bad things' into my domain to make me that much more frightening. Nothing sells a good lie like a bit of truth to make it something you can swallow.

Now, what floor level were you thinking of?

[Giving himself a mental shake he reminds himself that he can research theology later. Rubbing the back of his neck, he considers what everyone would want in their new living quarters.]

The floor doesn't matter as long as we have enough space and we're not bothered by the club. If there's one that has balconies, Magnus would probably like something there.

Something a little higher up, then. Well, I'll see what I've available. Unfortunately, none of them come furnished, so you'll have to supply your own. May I ask how many people you plan on housing? Just to see if there's a floor plan that's more convenient.
