[ it's been a rough month for jessica — stuck in this hellhole with a bunch of morons and assholes. present company included.

i've heard the same old crap about the portal. that it takes people who need a home.
but is there any way to predict when it happens, or who will show up? can it even pull in someone who's dead?
[ text | un: parker ]
Only they probably wouldn't be dead. It'd probably be a version of them that hasn't died or before their death.
If that makes sense.

[ there are a few familiar faces that, despite the guilt she would feel, jess wouldn't mind seeing. and then there's one in particular she'd like to punch repeatedly. ]

But hopefully we won't get any zombies.
I'm not sure that'd be a good thing.

You can't predict who will get pulled here.
As for the dead, that's complicated. Where I was before this could bring in the dead,
but the theory here is that anyone that comes through at the time of the their death is saved just before they actually die.
Either way time is weird here. Someone dead at home could show up any time before they died.
[Not sure if that's reassuring, but good luck Jess!]

before this. you mean back home?
no subject
Nope.
Third portal, one could definitely bring in the dead well after they died.
[And change their physical form back to what it was originally. You didn't need that to be put delicately, did you? Talking about Nina was not something he did well, he was still angry over it and it had been a few years.]

speaking from experience there?

Sorta.
I've noticed the portal picks variants of one person from across the Multiverse but never the same exact individual from different points in time, so you will only ever be the you of your own world that arrives here. Ten or twenty from other neighbouring universes, sure.
It dictates time as well as space during its selection. You could ask yourself why it didn't pull you in when you felt like shit a while ago, why when it did? It's interesting. To me.

Why the curiosity? Hoping for ghosts from the past?

[ He isn't about to make any promises, when he doesn't know if it's possible, but... for his own piece of mind, he's been seriously considering it. ]
from what i can tell there is a statistical bias and the people it brings aren't random
there is a slight tendency towards new arrivals who have connections with people already here.
so if someone from the same world as you shows up, it's more likely to be somebody you know or know about than a total stranger.
which is super weird. not sure why or how it's doing that.

If you can figure out the mathematical algorithm of that portal I think, maybe, it simply brought you here for that kind of brain power.
So far as I'm able to tell, yes, it can bring those who were previous dead, or close to dead. With the fact that it can access different time lines, and all of that? I wouldn't doubt it could bring in someone you may have known prior to their death and they wouldn't be any the wiser.
So I suppose I'm left here hoping that some who are dead stay that way.
