Currently, you are graced with a mugshot of one Peter “Space-Duke” Quill and a view of the messier half of his shared apartment. In his hand is his trusty mp3 player – which boasts at least three hundred songs, holy crap, y’all – and while he has one bud in his ear, the other dangles from the wire. ]

So. Apparently if nothing else, this place has, like, all the music ever. So if I’ve gotta be stuck here, might as well make the most of it, right?

I’m on the hunt for somethin’ new. Tryin’ to play a whole lot of catch up. If anyone’s got any music recommendations, I’m all ears. Songs, artists, albums, weird, avant-garde stuff with a guy saying “number nine” over and over – hit me with your best shot. I’ll try anything once.

Also, uh.

[ A pause, and he turns the mp3 player’s face toward the camera. The screen happily displays the album art of The Best of Earth, Wind & Fire, Vol. 1 while “September” plays. Zunes, man!! Aren’t they rad? ]

Don’t suppose anyone here’s familiar enough with this that they can show me how to add stuff?

[ says the asshole who carted around a Sony Walkman for twenty-six years of his life. He frowns down at the Zune, clicking at the buttons. ]

[ Ah. Hang on. Peter’s in the middle of getting a face full of dirty rag. He splutters for a second before tearing the rag away and shouting at someone off screen, ] Oh, real mature, Gamora— [ and chucking it back.

That done, he wipes at his cheek with the back of his free hand and continues on like he wasn’t just interrupted, ]

It’s not even touch-sensitive.

Unless you've dealt with 8 track tapes, you don't know "primitive".

[ He doesn't even know who Gamora is but he silently thanks her for that rag to the face. ]

Believe it or not, many things still aren't.

[ The mention of 8-track tapes makes him snort out a laugh. ]

Oh man, I haven't thought about those things in forever. My grandpa had a giant stack of 'em collecting dust on a shelf. Pretty sure he was expectin' them to make a comeback or something.

They kind of have in a way. A lot of "retro" items and music and fashion are coming back into style. The 80s, especially, before I came here. 70s are still in that maybe/a little area. We are small in number but are growing.

[ Well in that case, look out, world. It's Peter's time to shine. ]

So, what, have you got a bunch of 8-tracks sitting in a corner, waiting for the right moment to bust 'em out? Hoping it'll put you on a straight track to Cool-ville?

Yep. Last time I checked.

[ Too bad he's not back on Earth. ]

Not really. I was always more of a vinyl guy. But in some ways digital is better. Allows you to have more music than any record could ever have.

[ He lifts up the Zune, giving it a tiny little shake to draw attention to it. ]

This thing's got three hundred songs. [ Yes. You heard him right. Three hundred. As in, three-zero-zero. ] I dunno how the guy before me had any time to listen to even half of this.

I had easily over 1000 on my main harddrive.

[ Yes, he purposely dropped that bomb on you, Peter. You're welcome. ]

Then, with far more inflection, ]

Why?

I mean, you'd literally never have time to listen to all that in a sitting.

[ It was totally worth it for that face. Stephen is laughing as he types back: ]

Because I like music? And when you had as much work as I had to do, you would need hours of it. So no, not in one sitting. But several. And there was always something else coming out that I would like.

When you listen to Adele, you'll understand.

[ Is Stephen a secret Adele fangirl? Maybe. ]

[ He guesses that makes sense, but considering Peter had survived on one mix tape's worth – and more recently two mix tapes' worth – of music for the greater part of his life, having three hundred songs available was already overwhelming.

Having literally a thousand songs seems practically inconceivable. ]

I'm guessing that means I should be adding Adele to the list?
