Currently, you are graced with a mugshot of one Peter “Space-Duke” Quill and a view of the messier half of his shared apartment. In his hand is his trusty mp3 player – which boasts at least three hundred songs, holy crap, y’all – and while he has one bud in his ear, the other dangles from the wire. ]

So. Apparently if nothing else, this place has, like, all the music ever. So if I’ve gotta be stuck here, might as well make the most of it, right?

I’m on the hunt for somethin’ new. Tryin’ to play a whole lot of catch up. If anyone’s got any music recommendations, I’m all ears. Songs, artists, albums, weird, avant-garde stuff with a guy saying “number nine” over and over – hit me with your best shot. I’ll try anything once.

Also, uh.

[ A pause, and he turns the mp3 player’s face toward the camera. The screen happily displays the album art of The Best of Earth, Wind & Fire, Vol. 1 while “September” plays. Zunes, man!! Aren’t they rad? ]

Don’t suppose anyone here’s familiar enough with this that they can show me how to add stuff?

[ and also a little bit snarky. but he soon shakes his head. ]

[ "—is my father," is how the joke usually goes, but Peter seems to stumble on the words as he reaches them.

His expression hardens for a second before he clears his throat, offering a tight-lipped smile. ]

Anyway. It's just Star-Lord.

What makes you the ghost king?

[ he catches the stumble but doesn't draw attention to it. it's actually none of his business, so he shrugs it off. but when he's asked about his title, he flashes a smirk and his dark eyes dance with a fire suggesting he's either a genius or a madman. ]

I can control ghosts. They obey my commands.

[ Oh, that's a familiar sort of look in the kid's eyes – that sort of weird flash he's seen in the eyes of his teammates before. It should probably be worrying, but Peter feels a weird sort of homesickness for a second. ]

See, now I was under the impression that ghosts weren't real.

[ Or at least, that was the sort of thing Mom always reassured him after accidental viewings horror movies on TV. ]

Oh, they exist. Most mortals can't see them, though.

[ He frowns a little at that, something uncertain rather than outright disapproving. ]

"Mortals"?

[ He repeats it back with a touch of skepticism.

Asgardians aside, Peter's last experience with someone who used "mortals" unironically didn't end well. ]

[ if the frown worries him, it doesn't show. he merely explains, gesturing with his hands as he does. ]

Yeah, like normal humans. I mean, some can see through the Mist, clear sight and all. But most don't notice much.

[nostalgiabomb]

[ ... Okay. The frown is less concerned and more confused, now. ]

Uh... huh.

[ A pause, then, ]

You wanna refresh my memory on what the "mist" is?
