[ Distinguished and not-so distinguished residents of Riverview, hello.

Currently, you are graced with a mugshot of one Peter “Space-Duke” Quill and a view of the messier half of his shared apartment. In his hand is his trusty mp3 player – which boasts at least three hundred songs, holy crap, y’all – and while he has one bud in his ear, the other dangles from the wire. ]

So. Apparently if nothing else, this place has, like, all the music ever. So if I’ve gotta be stuck here, might as well make the most of it, right?

I’m on the hunt for somethin’ new. Tryin’ to play a whole lot of catch up. If anyone’s got any music recommendations, I’m all ears. Songs, artists, albums, weird, avant-garde stuff with a guy saying “number nine” over and over – hit me with your best shot. I’ll try anything once.

Also, uh.

[ A pause, and he turns the mp3 player’s face toward the camera. The screen happily displays the album art of The Best of Earth, Wind & Fire, Vol. 1 while “September” plays. Zunes, man!! Aren’t they rad? ]

Don’t suppose anyone here’s familiar enough with this that they can show me how to add stuff?

[ A lot of the music given to him just ends up being from that decade. Not that Peter minds in the slightest.

He scrolls through the Zune's contents again. ]

Got some AC/DC and Pink Floyd already, but it looks like I've got just the one Zeppelin song. [ Guess which one. Go on. We'll wait. ]

I'll have to grab some more.

Well, it's a start. Add in some Iron Maiden and Black Sabbath and you've got something.

[Tony pauses for a moment, expression shifting to something considering.]

If you start running out of space, let me know. I can probably jury rig some more memory in there.

[ Peter huffs out a disbelieving sort of laugh, and he picks through the menus on the Zune. ]

This thing’s got thirty gigs already, and I’m only using, like, two. And that’s with three hundred songs.

[ Louder for the folks in the back:

Three. Hundred. ]

I mean, don’t get me wrong, dude, I appreciate the offer, but I’m not sure I’m gonna get even close to filling this up.

[He knows he shouldn't but Tony can't help smiling a little.]

You'd be surprised how quickly collections expand. But the offer's there.

[ He clicks his tongue, sucking in a breath through the corner of his mouth. He’s still doubtful, apparently. ]

I’ll keep it in mind, but like I said, I kinda doubt I’ll get to that point.

[ A quick glance at the comm device, and the name “iron.man” rings a bit of a bell. ]

Did we meet the other day? [ You know. “The other day,” as though killing overgrown house plants is just another Thursday.

Peter also doesn’t realize he has a one in three shot of landing on the right Tony Stark. ]

[Tony pauses, eyebrows lifting. Star Lord does have kind of a familiar ring to it...]

Depends. Are you the showtunes guy?

[If so, congratulations! Correct Tony Stark.]

[ Peter makes a scoffing noise. ]

Please, Jet Jaguar, “Skid Row” is more than just a showtune.

[ Which is to say, yes. Yes, Peter is that guy. ]

Right. It's a cover of a showtune, my mistake. [So very, very dry.]

Nice to see none of the other plants got you.

Well, I can't say it wasn't for lack of trying. Likewise, though.

It was— [ ... Uh. Actually, what was it? Peter is so bad at names. ]

[Well, it's better than Stank.] Stark. Tony, if you prefer.

Crap. [ So close. ] Sorry, Stark.

[ He doesn't sound too sorry, actually, but there it is. ]

Peter Quill. Nice to meet you without—

[ Peter circles his own face with a gesture. ]

—all the robotech.

[He rolls his eyes a little but doesn't seem to upset about it either. Tony's heard worse.]

You too. Though I'd love to get a look at that jetpack some time.

[ Peter frowns thoughtfully, tapping his forefinger on the edge of the Zune. ]

How 'bout this: if you show me how to load up this thing with more tunes— [ a pointed little shake of the mp3 player. ] —I'll let you have a play date with my aero-rig.

Deal?

[Tony's eyebrows lift into an amused look.]

Deal. What kind of computer do you have?

[nostalgiabomb]

[ That's an odd question, Peter thinks, and he frowns a little. ]

What's a computer have to do with anything?

[ ... this may, in fact, be one of the myriad reasons why Peter's Zune adventures have not been going very well. ]

[...oh boy. Tony lets out a long breath.]

That's how you get the music on. Do you have one at all?

[nostalgiabomb]

... Uh.

[ This lapse into silence?

This is a telling lapse.

This is a lapse with weight. ]

... Might have to get back to you on that one.

[Tony gives the screen an equally long, if less weighted look, and then huffs in amusement.]

I can hook you up, don't worry.

[ His mouth opens to respond, but then he puts on a slightly skeptical look. ]

You can?

[ In a tone of voice that silently asks, "What's the catch?" ]

Sure. [As if he hasn't noticed the skepticism at all. Tony gets it, but still.] As long as you don't need a gaming rig or anything I can probably knock one out in a couple of minutes.

[nostalgiabomb]

[ Peter holds onto that uncertainty for a second or two more before he lets out a sigh. ]

I'd appreciate it.

But just so you know, I'm not gonna let you keep the aero-rig for this. I'll gladly owe you another favor, though.

... Within reason.

I don't want to keep it, just take a look.

[He's not rolling his eyes mostly out of sheer willpower.]

It's fine, seriously. I'll let you know when I've got something for you.

[ That bare touch of skepticism, but he shakes his head, forces it out of his thoughts. ]
