Is it normal for things to be this...intense?
[The ghosts, the weird party thing that happened and now...now she isn't sure what to make of anything.]
Rather, is it normal for your old things to suddenly appear? I didn't think I would see it again after leaving Jakku, but...it's better than nothing.
Or, is it a trick and should I prepare for it to be something else? I would like to eventually use it, but if it's a trick....
[Nothing is given freely, especially her Speeder. How or why it's suddenly came to Riverview is beyond her. Does she dare trust it?]

Sometimes the portal spits things out that belong ot us. It's not a trick, this place isn't really geared toward messing with us.
[He'd know.]

But the rest? Is it normal for ghosts or spirits to suddenly appear? Or random feasts?
no subject
if they treat us fair and we do our share of the work there's no reason to keep our items from us or charge us for them.
Orientation doesn't cover everything, they tend to focus on whatever questions are asked as far as I can tell. Besides, it might give the impression that we should expect our stuff to start coming through and they don't need an angry mob of disappointed people upset that their stuff hasn't showed up when someone else's does.
[There's a pause before he sends the next message.]
Feasts, parties, festivals all seem to happen every month. I haven't been here long enough to see anything about ghosts before, but it's not the strangest thing that's happened here since I arrived.
no subject
[Not since she left Jakku, but it's still weird to suddenly be given something for free. Granted, their explanation makes sense, do your part around the area, and you get rewarded for it. Everyone's happy, or close to it.]
Suppose that makes sense, but again, I wasn't expecting it. It makes it seem more...final--we're all really stuck here if they're bringing our things to us.
That's good to know? It's not the strangest thing that's happened, but it makes me wary of what ever else might happen in the months to come.
no subject
The portal seems to have a will of its own, I wouldn't count any one thing as more final than the others. We're here, whether the portal brings in things that belong to us we're here until we get back out again, which might be forever for some people, but not everyone.
Spirits aren't so bad as long as they're not malicious, a bunch of us lost our memories a few months ago accidentally ingesting the pollen of some plant. Unfortunately there's no telling what could happen next.

From the way the portal was spoken about in orientation, it made it sound like the person or people in charge here have some control over the portal. Which is why I'm skeptical of my own Speeder. It will come in handy though...
Wonderful, I'm hoping that won't happen again any time soon. I'd rather like to keep my memories all in tact. [And there won't be a way to guard against such a thing happening so...she'll have to go with the flow.
Fun.]

The story is that they can try to guide it back to specific worlds to get people home who don't actually want to be here. It's not easy and it takes time, though. It was compared to trying to control a force of nature last I heard. The best we can do is make use of what arrives.
All of the plants involved were torched and a tea was made that gave people their memories back, hopefully that means if it does happen again we're already prepared. Either way, most things that happen here are just temporary and they're very quick to correct mistakes.
[Going with the flow has become Ed's mantra, but he still likes to do his research on the subjects, even if there's nothing he can do to change things.]

Doubtful it'll happen again. Didn't have much with me.

I've also seen...buildings.
no subject
Why would they bring buildings...never mind.

(This is convenient, she had just been thinking of positing this question to the network at large the other day.)
Would you mind describing to me how that came about? Did the item come through the portal?
no subject
I went outside the Communal Housing and there it was. Just there, waiting for me.
no subject
Did you make any kind of request for it, or did it simply appear without prompting?
no subject
Why?
no subject
I'm curious about the process. I didn't realise it was possible to receive things from back home.
no subject
Either way, I'l make use of it.

Are you saying you'd like this place to air your dirty laundry?
[There's a pause before an additional line of text.]
Or is it you're referring to something else?
no subject
No, who in their right mind would want that? I meant the ghosts that were appearing before..
And if something from your world was suddenly brought back.
no subject
[He didn't exactly have a pleasant encounter with his particular 'ghost' and he'd like not to think on it too much.]
The latter I've heard of, yes, but it's not exceptionally common. Have you found something you thought lost then?
no subject
I gained back something I didn't think I would see again. I mean, I wasn't heartbroken over it, but it's nice to have again.
no subject
[He isn't serious, of course, but sarcasm never translates well through text.]
If you've a mind to satisfy a curiosity, what is it?
[A pause, then the next line appears.]
Also, my name is Dorian. I don't recognize your handle.
no subject
[Sarcasm doesn't translate well, but she kind of got the gist of it.]
It was my old speeder--a transportation vehicle.
Rey.
[And if he looks, it's in her handle...she's not that creative with names. But it's also the truth, she is/was a scavenger and her name is Rey..]
