( video & action; un: kirk ) come fly with me
[ Jim's face greets the network, blue eyes alight with excitement and a big, happy smile on his face. He's dressed all proper in a flight suit, hair with that annoyingly perfect curl over his forehead, and behind him a glimpse of the front of the shuttle he's been working on can be seen. ]
Good morning, everyone! For those of you who don't know me, I'm Captain James T. Kirk, and for the six months I've been in the Quarantine, I've been a member of the Perimeter Guard as a surveyor. A couple of months ago, I took a small team to the waterfalls as we tracked down a mystery signal, and found an abandoned vessel there, buried in a cave. We brought it back with us, but it was severely damaged and it took a lot of work and sleepless hours to get it back into shape. However, it wasn't wasted time. I'd like to present to you all— [ He stands up and moves behind his device, so the camera focuses fully on the shuttle. ] the PGS Intrepid! [ ta-daaah ] She's good as new and fully functional now, and I'm excited to say she's ready to go well beyond the walls and all around the whole moon.
[ He comes into the view of the camera again, retaking his seat in front of it. ]
The shuttle is an invaluable asset of the Quarantine, and with her restoration, a new branch of the Perimeter Guard has been established: aerial survey and exploration. So far it's only Poe Dameron and myself, but I'd love to see more skilled pilots and explorers joining us.
Likewise, if you'd like to pilot the shuttle and have the skills to do so, but don't want to commit to that specific branch of the guard, there will also be flight permits available to any skilled pilots who might want to use the shuttle for quick trips and various missions.
On both these circumstances, there should be a small flight test to assess your skills.
Now, if you only have minimal or no knowledge whatsoever, but you're interested in learning, we'll also be offering piloting lessons, ranging from basic to more advanced depending on your current skill.
Should anyone have any further questions, feel free to respond here, or drop me a line through my personal inbox. I'm also often at the Perimeter Guard, and anyone's welcome to come by. In that case, you can also take a closer look at the shuttle.
[ He sits up, smile growing a hint wider. ] Thank you for your time, and I look forward to hearing from you. Kirk out.
(( ooc: open to both network replies and action threads @ the perimeter guard! feel free to check out the post about the new aerial survey & exploration branch of the perimeter guard (and also jooooin uuuuus). actual interactions aren't mandatory, and we can definitely handwave your character signing up for classes/taking the flight test/poking around/whatever, so don't feel like we have to play out any of it! ))

[ Besides, he has his shuttle if he ever feels like tinkering. That, and a bunch of other tech he can get his hands on. ]
I am, yes. Shuttle bay. [ He nods at her. ] I'll be waiting.
> action
It doesn't take very long at all for her to reach the shuttle bay, either, given that she'd already been at HQ, just in a different hangar - the one for Special Vehicles, where she'd been assigned to. The bay doors part to admit her and her small, pink mech, zooming in with boosters - as it's capable of being airborne in somewhat short bursts - and then landing on the mech's two legs. Then the mech appears to hunch over a little, bending at the joint in its legs as a hatch in the back opens, ejecting Hana from inside. She lands soundly on the floor on her feet with a practiced ease before she jogs over to where Jim is. ]
You're Jim, right? Hana Song, reporting for duty!
no subject
He smiles immediately, stretching a hand out for a shake. ]
Nice to meet you, Hana. [ Evidently Jim's not a stickler for formalities, not here anyway. ] Come on, I'll show you around the shuttle, then we can take her for a spin. [ Nodding to her mech, ] Want to take it along or leave it here?
no subject
Oh.
[ Somehow, she hadn't expected them to actually go out and go somewhere on the Intrepid. She'd expected a tour, for sure, and then maybe a rundown of the basic controls if she was lucky. But this is much, much better, and her eyes light up with excitement as she nods. At the question, she casts a few quick glances between her mech and the shuttle, trying to gauge if her MEKA unit is going to fit, then trying to gauge if she wants to bring it along. The answer comes easily. ]
Eh, why the hell not?
[ Spinning on her heel, she makes back toward her mech, calling out over her shoulder,. ]
I'll pilot her in if you open the cargo bay!
no subject
Brilliant. Hold on, I'll get that for you.
[ As she moves towards her unit, he does a quick run to the shuttle, going in through the side door and closing it behind him. A few seconds later the rear door ramp falls open, revealing the inside of the back of the shuttle. It's not too big, but it's fairly impressive for a shuttle, and considering how her mech can fold its legs and take up even less space, there should be plenty of room for it, and then some.
He hops out of his chair and steps through the doors to the back of the shuttle, beckoning her in, though calling out jokingly. ] Try not to scratch the paint, will you?
no subject
Once she and the mech are inside, she lets go of her controls and shrugs at Kirk. ]
How's that?
no subject
The unit seems to fit inside perfectly, and it still leaves plenty of open space on the back. Jim nods, glancing around a bit. ]
We'll have to find a way to secure it, if we make this a regular thing. But for now it looks alright to me.
no subject
This is so cool.
And yeah, she'll be fine. I'm sure I can get someone to figure out a way to secure her to something on here!
[ She makes a picture frame with her fingers as she keeps looking around the back of the shuttle, eventually settling on a vacant spot. ]
Like over there! That seems like a good place for next time.
no subject
Some clamps wouldn't be difficult to manage. [ He looks to where she points out, nodding. ] Seems like a pretty good fit, yes.
[ Making a mental note to get some sort of mechanism set up there for her mech, he nods for her to follow as he steps through the door to the front of the shuttle. ] Come on. Promise it'll be a smooth ride this time around. Not a scratch on your baby.
