( video & action; un: kirk ) come fly with me
[ Jim's face greets the network, blue eyes alight with excitement and a big, happy smile on his face. He's dressed all proper in a flight suit, hair with that annoyingly perfect curl over his forehead, and behind him a glimpse of the front of the shuttle he's been working on can be seen. ]
Good morning, everyone! For those of you who don't know me, I'm Captain James T. Kirk, and for the six months I've been in the Quarantine, I've been a member of the Perimeter Guard as a surveyor. A couple of months ago, I took a small team to the waterfalls as we tracked down a mystery signal, and found an abandoned vessel there, buried in a cave. We brought it back with us, but it was severely damaged and it took a lot of work and sleepless hours to get it back into shape. However, it wasn't wasted time. I'd like to present to you all— [ He stands up and moves behind his device, so the camera focuses fully on the shuttle. ] the PGS Intrepid! [ ta-daaah ] She's good as new and fully functional now, and I'm excited to say she's ready to go well beyond the walls and all around the whole moon.
[ He comes into the view of the camera again, retaking his seat in front of it. ]
The shuttle is an invaluable asset of the Quarantine, and with her restoration, a new branch of the Perimeter Guard has been established: aerial survey and exploration. So far it's only Poe Dameron and myself, but I'd love to see more skilled pilots and explorers joining us.
Likewise, if you'd like to pilot the shuttle and have the skills to do so, but don't want to commit to that specific branch of the guard, there will also be flight permits available to any skilled pilots who might want to use the shuttle for quick trips and various missions.
On both these circumstances, there should be a small flight test to assess your skills.
Now, if you only have minimal or no knowledge whatsoever, but you're interested in learning, we'll also be offering piloting lessons, ranging from basic to more advanced depending on your current skill.
Should anyone have any further questions, feel free to respond here, or drop me a line through my personal inbox. I'm also often at the Perimeter Guard, and anyone's welcome to come by. In that case, you can also take a closer look at the shuttle.
[ He sits up, smile growing a hint wider. ] Thank you for your time, and I look forward to hearing from you. Kirk out.
(( ooc: open to both network replies and action threads @ the perimeter guard! feel free to check out the post about the new aerial survey & exploration branch of the perimeter guard (and also jooooin uuuuus). actual interactions aren't mandatory, and we can definitely handwave your character signing up for classes/taking the flight test/poking around/whatever, so don't feel like we have to play out any of it! ))

[ Probably. It's not like he's unenthused to try when he could be the commander of a shuttle with Jim as his captain, that's practically all the selfishly cheerful incentive Loki needs to make himself a useful pilot. The novelty.
He can also ride a chariot of goats through space, so. How hard can this be by comparison, really. ]
Will you show me how to use this one?
no subject
[ Sure, it's just a bunch of buttons and switches and like a thousand different lights and displays. Absolutely nothing can go wrong. Loki's just lucky Jim likes him so much. ]
Alright. Come by and we'll take you up, see what you can do with her. Worse comes to worst, you'd have to take a few lessons from the Quarantine's most handsome instructor. [ AKA him. ]
no subject
[ Thankfully, when Loki does want to learn something he's very adept at absorbing new details so the lessons may not be too long. ]
That suit is very becoming of you, by the way.

Finally airborne again, Jim?
[Her smile is wide, pleased for him. She can imagine how thrilled he is to have some sort of craft to get him up off the ground once more.]
You know you can count me in. I can pilot well enough but I'm happy to take another post if you find yourself with offers from people better skilled than I.
no subject
[ It's not like he can go that far, granted, but simply being able to get his feet off the ground is already a comfort. ]
Oh, please. I'd love you joining in. There aren't many of us as it is, so I'll take anyone with the skills I'm looking for. And anytime you can come by, hit me up so I know to expect you.
no subject
[She knows that she and Jim aren't too far apart in technological advances. His world is ahead of hers, but not by too much. She won't mind knowing what she's getting into at the start.]
And should I start getting into the habit of calling you Captain?

[ Because she just can't resist - ]
I don't know if the Quarantine is truly ready for you to have your own ship.
Either way - you still owe me a ride.
no subject
You make it sound as though I'll be wreaking havoc around the Quarantine.
Not interested in learning to pilot it yourself, are you?
no subject
I mean.. do you do anything other than create havoc?
I have no doubts I could learn if need be. Is that a request that I learn?

Is the aerial unit only for people going out in the, uh. The shuttle? Would a dragon-rider maybe be useful here?
no subject
[ Okay, he hadn't actually considered that hypothesis. Give him a moment. ]
I, uh... sure? A dragon should be slower than the shuttle at top speed, but I don't see why not. [ It does fall within the same description of aerial survey, after all. ] Wait— you mean you have a dragon here?
no subject
[He pans the camera off his face and out into the common area of a communal floor, where Toothless is curled loosely on the carpet, napping.] Yeah, he came through the portal with me.

[Okay, Keith was pretty happy at that idea. Since Red was too small for him to actually pilot her like normal, a shuttle would come in handy.]
That's awesome! Mind if I check it out?
no subject
Of course. I'm not keeping her locked away or anything, so if you want to come by the guard sometime, she'll be there.
no subject
[Keith was definitely happy about this. He'd have to tell Shiro in case he missed the broadcast. They were both top pilots back home.]
I have a friend who'd probably be into the idea, too. He's also on the guard with me, so we'll stop by, definitely. His name's Shiro. I'm Keith.
And, if you ever need pilots, let us know. We're both pilots back home. [Casual shrug.]

Hana Song, currently with the Search and Rescue unit of the Perimeter Guard here! I was a mobile unit pilot for them Korean army at home and you should— [ she catches and corrects herself ] I'd like to be considered for piloting the PGS Intrepid, Captain!
no subject
Jim will do just fine, honestly. And that sounds interesting; what sort of mobile unit, if you don't mind me asking?
