[ he's been scrolling through the network for much of the afternoon, mulling over various threads and the content within. while there were more pressing questions he could no doubt ask instead, it was better to start off small and inconspicuous. right? right. ]
Rather than toss another bewildered introduction into the mix, I thought I would pose a question instead. Several, in fact.
1. What were your initial reactions to your new home?
2. How do you feel about your situation as it stands now?
3. What do you do to pass the time?

1. The Quarantine is much more technologically advanced than my home. At first if found it confusing and overwhelming, but fascinating. I was unsure about staying here long-term.
2. It is not so bad now. There are still many things I don’t quite understand, but I was something of a wanderer on my home star, so now that I have acclimated I find I don’t mind being here. If offered the opportunity to go home, I might take it, I might not.
3. I spend much of my time tending to my duties with the Perimeter Guard. Otherwise, I am trying to learn how to use the technology here as well as I can, or I can be found at the library.
For what it is worth, by the by, welcome to the Quarantine. How do you find it here?
no subject
[ is it a common mindset? to want to stay in favour of returning? curious. ]
If I might ask, exactly how much more advanced is the technology found here in comparison to your home world?
no subject
Hm. It’s difficult to put such things into words, but for comparison’s sake, the easiest place to start would be with the transport. We have airships, though they’re very few and far between. For the common man, travel on land would be made by foot, by mount, or by chocobo-drawn cart. If you wished to cross the ocean, you would take a ship.
Here, vehicles are commonplace- I’m told they’re called “cars”. We’ve nothing even close to that where I’m from, nevermind these communication devices, or televisions, or refrigerators.
no subject
I see. That's quite the jump for you, then. Chocobos are a common mode of transport where I'm from as well, save for the capital cities.
What more can you tell me about these airships? Ours tend to be reserved for military use more than not as of late.
no subject
Oh? I’ve not met anyone else who knows what they are, unless they’ve seen one here. You’re not of Hydaelyn, are you?
[ He’ll answer the other question later if he has to. Right now he’s more curious to know if he’s found someone from his world. ]
no subject
[ it hasn't occurred to him just yet that chocobos aren't a universal staple, much in the way plants and oxygen and zu are. ]
no subject
But to answer your earlier inquiry: there are airships employed by the major cities of Eorzea to allow quick transport from one to the next. Beyond that, I know that most others fall under the ownership of Garlond Ironworks, a corps of engineers whose aim it is to share magitek with those who would not normally have access to it.
no subject
[ just putting it out there ]
Magitek in our world has less pleasant connotations, to say the least. Most, if not all of our large-scale technological marvels are creations of war, or intended for such.
no subject
On that oh-so-charming note, I think a photo of a chocobo wouldn't go amiss.
no subject
[ curious. but on to better topics. and pictures. ]

[ He hasn’t met anyone else here who comes from a world with anything in common with Hydaelyn, let alone this much. It will definitely warrant some more discussion.
But! It’s time for chocobo pictures. ]
It’s a bit fluffier than I’m used to, but familiar all the same. We’ve nothing capable of taking photographs on my world, or else I would return the favor.

2. It is comfortable. Not always interesting.
3. Work.
no subject
What manner of work, if I may ask?
no subject
I'm a DJ here. And run entertainment at a few clubs, as well.
no subject
[ ... unsure. ]
What kind of excitement do you refer to?
[ vaguely alarming. only a little. ]
no subject
[ And... He realizes that does sound vaguely suspicious. With good reason. ]
Things happen from time to time. And there's some interesting creatures outside these walls.

[ no, he doesn't. but maybe if he says it, it'll suddenly make sense. yeah, that's the ticket. ]
Do these things happen on frequent occasion? How often need I watch my drink?

2) Better, albeit infuriating at times.
3) Find work to do.

I came from a desert planet, so in a way, this place is better than where I was before.

2. It's kind of a nice break? I don't plan to stay forever, I have duties and people I care about at home, but... at least it gets my dad off my back while I sort out how I feel about being chief soon.
3. I work with the surveyors! I go flying with my dragon a lot, and I'm working on mapping an area in the jungle. I'm also taking a couple of classes at the university.
no subject
What's this about dragons?
no subject
I'm a dragon-rider.

2. I don't mind it. It's pleasant enough, living here but I am keen to return.
3. Work, mostly. Paint. That sounds so boring, doesn't it.
no subject
And no, I don't think it so boring. Painting is a fine vocation. Work is a habit hard to break.
no subject
Cheers. I think that the work creates... a sense of normalcy, I suppose. Plus I like the work. Are you working here?

1. It's green here. Really green.
2. I don't really feel anything. It's not like anything's changed, other than scenery.
3. Programming. I'm making a videogame. VR is severely lacking here. I'll fix that.

This place is better than what's waiting for me in my version of Earth, so currently this isn't the worst place to waste a year or so if the need is there. Outside of my job there is an ice skating rink if you'd like to learn that, or the library is very well stacked with all kinds of volumes you could hope for.
